Drive.com.au has a downloadable PDF (in low-res and high-res versions) on the VE, including a driving comparison to the BA Fords, available here:

Worth the download, IMHO...

I'm sure they were just using them b/c at that point the VE was in the testing stage. Beside those wheels were not just limited to the GTO, they also came on other Holden models such as commodores and utes.

Just thought i should let you guys know that drive over here is about as biased as C&D over there.
Recently they had a video on thier site of a comparison of the SSV and the XR8 they showed a different car pulling off the road claimed it was the XR8(when it clearly wasnt) and then claimed the SSV won because the XR8 hit a rock and broke down.... some comparison.
Just take the comparison with a grain of salt i know the VE is newer and better than the ford at the mo but honestly they are very compareable still and for most people the decision comes down to which colour blood you have blue ovel or holden red.
Oh yeah when the next ford comes out im sure they will be blowing smoke about how good that is.

I have been watching the Super V8's on SPEED Channel for a few years now, and am very impressed at how good the series is. I know the Ford won last years title, but I sure Red will prevail this year.
I believe in the LION KING!

The Ford vs GM debate is pretty much the same here too. Difference is the media in Oz still has pride in their local brands. I don't see them taking obvious cheap shots just because of a certain badge. Here if you are domestic you automatically start out in the hole so being on par isn't good enough, you have to hit a 6 or it's junk.

I'm with you...nevermind the GTO won its division in the Rolex. Add to that the fact that all you need is to spend a few more bucks on upgrades ($6000-$10,000) and you are in Porsche territory, and still haven't come close to $50,000+ it takes to drive a Porsche off of the car lot. I know some of you have had some issues with fit and finish, but the GTO is still the best bang for the buck.
By the way, I don't subscribe to Car and Driver, I do purchase Road and Track, Automobile Mag, High Performance Pontiac, and Motor Trend Mag. You get a more fair assessment from those magazines.:-patriot: :aus_flag:

Yeah i agree on the bias and think the media over there has the game worked out backwards if domestics get a poor run in the media compared to imports. Surely domestics represent better value for money by far and well there has to be atleast the smallest amount of partiotism doesn't there.
The one thing about the new holden is alot of the upgrades to the suspension etc. was only putting it inline with what the current falcon already had. But they skim over this and other details such as the falcons standard engine has better power, torqe, and economy and the 6speed on the falcon is world class and actually improves economy rather than worsens it in the case of the holden.
I just think some of the aussie media got a bit caught up in holdens marketing. I know how important this is for holden and the aussie car industry but when I see a hands down win like some of the reviews i question how objective they are really being. I don't doubt the VE is the better car for the money at the moment i just don't think its light years ahead like some media outlets present it as being.
I was just wondering if some of the import manufacturers do creative accounting like they do over here. For example ford and holden report the largest profits anually but toyota sells the most vehicles??? They seem to always only make a few million year after year and id be willing to bet that Toyota make sure that profits in tax high australia are kept to a minimum.
Anyway the new VE is a good vehicle but I just don't think it has moved light years ahead as some media would have you believe. To tell you the truth i am a bit disapointed about some aspects of the new commadore and expected them to be a little better.
