The short answer no! The reason they hook so good is because not only the compound but the very shallow tread sipes that direct the water away from the surface of the tire. That being said I drive with BFG's all the time but my car is not my daily driver. I have been caught in an unexpected ice storm while I was at a meet in early November last year. If this question is for driving if you get caught take it slow you will be okay, if this is for a DD that you may start the day in the rain I would concider other tires. Unfortunately for Padre he had a thread on this subject about a year ago.

The Nittos by far work best in the rain compared to the others.
It really wasn't too bad unless you hit standing water. But you just need to be a little more careful driving with DR's. For some real fun, try some MT's in the rain.

My brother drives daily with Nitto drag radials. He even street races in the rain with those tires. He's never had a problem.

Nittos are great untill they wear down a bit. Almost lost it a few times with low treads on the Nittos and being in the rain.

I've driven in the rain on my mickey thompson ET streets. They didn't do too bad, but they definitely didn't like the stop bars at intersections. :D

If you want a tire with great grip and wet handling find an autocross/roadrace d.o.t. tire made for racing in wet conditions. I have used Yokohama's A032r's for daily driving and they are great, but they very loud. The A032r's are very limited in tire sizes, the 255/40/17 is what I use and they had a 275/40/17 but I believe that you cannot get them anymore. They wear quick but myself and a few friends of mine have been able to get 15,000 miles from them.

I've never driven on any other DR except Nitto 555s , and they aren't much fun in the rain. If you're on the interstate with them, definitely slow down, and, obviously, never race in the rain. They will handle fine a majority of the time, but not all the time, and it only takes one time to total your beautiful car.
Here's a tip: If you're driving on the interstate and coming up to a bridge (I-75 in Florida has quite a few of them), SLOW DOWN. The bridges around here are constructed with a different material than the rest of the interstate, and the material is not porous (extremely smooth). Between DRs, a smooth surface, and water rushing down the bridge, 50% of the time the back end of the car will start to slide. Distance yourself from traffic and slow down to give yourself some leeway. I'm not saying you're 100% going to spin out, but you will notice some definite drifting most of the time. Better to be safe than sorry.

Your best insurance policy is an extra pair of rims with your DR's on them.
I agree that the Nitto DR's are manageable in the rain, but after my experience with the M/T DR's in the rain, I won't take the risk.
One other bit of advice: don't pass 18-wheelers on the highway in the rain with your DR's. What happened to me was passing a truck (me: 68, him: 65), the draft off the truck buffeted the car sideways. The front tires (stock BFG's) held traction fine, the rears (M/T DR's) lost traction and went sideways.
360's on the highway in front of 18-wheelers are not fun.

+1....My nittos worked just fine in the rain on my Z28. When they wore down near bald, they got a bit too slippery, but for the majority of the treadlife, they weren't any worse than the KDWs that they replaced.
I think you either get a second set of rear wheels for the strip.(too much work for me) or get Kumho Ectsa MX Ill bet my money they grip at the track better than 99.9% of all street tires and are great in the rain and handle superb around corners I had them and plan on putting them on my car. You know a tire is gripping at the track when you can stick your hand to it just about like you can with a DR and on my vette they got extremely sticky although they do not last very long either but are quite inexpensive in the grand scheme of things.
