Woof on big dog...I'll even join the howling on this one. Gun control is hitting what you aimed at.

I agree with that. The funny thing here in FL is I can go buy a gun without any firearms saftey training or certification. I just go to the store pay my money and wait 10 days and then I'm armed. Now if I wanted my CWP I have to take a brief course on gun saftey and such. Now tell me, how does that make any sense? I think I should have to take some kind of test or recievie some form of certification before I can buy the gun. Afterall I had to so I could drive a 3000+lbs vehicle. Don't get me wrong, I'm very progun, but I'm also very pro personal responsiblity.

You have to wait 10 days to get your gun? When I bought mine, I went to the store with no intention of buying a gun, decided halfway through my boyfriend purchasing his that I wanted to buy mine, gave them my cash, license, and filled out a form. I waited 45 minutes and walked out with my gun.
Only "formal" training I have is limited time in the USAR and hunter's safety when I was 10.

its a 3 day wait on handguns, none on rifle/shotguns in FL.(this is also only if you don't have a CWL and buying from an FFL)

which is exactly why you don't (shouldn't) have to take any safety course. once you make that purchase, its up to you to learn gun safety.
many many moons here in Maryland. You give them the cash then wait what seems like a lifetime - then you get your gun. And you can only get 1 every 30 days.

in VA..they do a quick background check and you walk out of the store with it. if you have a CWP its only takes min's to complete. some places now walk you out with the gun if you buy ammo at the same time...LOL... they did that with my Kimber.. i carried the gun out...he walked me to the door with the ammo. i said "why do yall do this".."precaution against robbery" he said. i said. how do you know i dont have a pocket full of .45 acp when i walked in? blank stare with no reply......LOL

I've heard stories of people bringing confirmed death threats with them when they apply and they still get nada in Md.

It takes like 15 minutes to get a gun in AL. There is a background check, but it is usually automatic as long as your record is clean.

Good info in that article, thanks for sharing wolf.
A04GTO, if anything the FL CWP is nice to have when you purchase a gun. Walk in, show them the permit, small background check, walk out with it.
