The Car mags keep running articles about how great the new Commodore is. Why can't GM get this car over here now? Enough with the front wheel trash that is Impala, Monte Carlo, Buick. If they can rebadge a Monaro and get it here in a year, why not a Commodore? It'd be great as the new Buick Regal GT.

I'll believe that one when I see it. Good news though if true.

Well it is known that they designed the car with the US in mind, unlike the monaro, which they had to retrofit and change to get it to US specs.
They didn't spend all that money on a new car/platform to be an austraila only with no exports. They are already exporting to the middle east in LHD format as chevy's.
It will be here, just don't know for sure when and what brand it will be under. Also you know the look (front bumper) will be changed as well as US spec lighting standards applied.

Interestingly, Denny Mooney (Holden CEO, and an American) missed the Sydney Motor Show (the biggest motor show in Australia) to be in the USA. Predictions are either he is there for a promotion, or to negotiate sales of the Commodore to Pontiac.

since that's a "lumina S" I'd say that one there in the pic is a V6.... The "SS" is the V8

It will be here in one form as a Pontiac. The real question is whether it will get the "Grand Prix" name (unlikely, as the Oshawa, Ontario, Canada plant currently has name exclusivity) or get something generic/anonymous like G8. What trim level/levels, and what engine, along with the new nose, are the only questions about what we'll see in auto show season...
Do you think the front headlights don't meet current U.S. spec? Since the VE was originally designed to be built here (I'm sure we're gonna get Holden exports again), I am assuming that those specs (along with gas tank positioning and LHD capability) were designed right in...

yes im sure the one were lookin at here is a V6. notice the single exhaust and 16" rims. the V8 model will most likely at least have 17's or 18's and dual exhaust

Right. I agree 100%. It might be nice for them to call it a Tempest or LeMans though. The trunk is huge, 17.5 cubic feet.

I know I've been away from the GP scene for awhile, but I thought they were being built in Kansas City. No?!?
Anyway, this (http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2006/ 112_0610_pontiac_gto_grand_prix) is where I originally saw where this may become a reality. I'm betting that the new Zeta-lite platform will see several vehicles; Camaro, GTO, GP, G8 (Bonneville replacement), Impala....I wouldn't bet against a new Chevelle/Malibu either, if el Presidente Lutz has his way.....

2004 Grand Prix's moved to Oshawa to join the other W-bodies (Impala/MC, LaCrosse/Allure). The Fairfax plant now produces the Chevy Malibu and Saturn Aura...

Lutz made a comment that if you want to see VE here in the States, come to the Chicago Auto Show, where all will be revealed.
Oshawa is getting the Camaro (100k) and a RWD Impala (150-200k - less than the 250-300k currently sold - the new Impala will be more expen$ive/less fleet than the current car). The revamped Oshawa plant (consolidating car lines #1 and 2) can produce upwards of 500k vehicles per year. So, there will be at least 1 or 2 other vehicles there... maybe a GTO and a Monaro twin, maybe, after a few years of imports, a G8 here, maybe a big Buick (Lucerne replacement)... but you won't see the blatant badge engineering (where every division will have a sister car) that you did before (so, unlikely to see a G8 AND a Grand Prix, for example)...

Looks like the middle east is being ripped off.
The car is most likely running the low output version of the V6, not the high output version that is in the Commodore SV6 and Calais. (hence the single pipe).
It also has crappy looking 16" wheels. Here is a Aussie SV6 for comparison:

They will still have to change the cut off IF they give us the projector style lights and not the reflectors of the Omega trim. Then theres the parking lights differences between US and AUS specs, and of course the marker lights which they need to add to the bumper to meet US specs, likely deleting the fender markers.
Sure they thought of it, and yes they already have LHD headlights for ME....

The new suspension coming over for the Camaro / GTO / Impala / G8 / El Camino / Buick is amazing. We have had a car in R & D for months and our guys love it. Most of it is good for the owners and some of it is good for Pedders Dealers. The upper strut mount is the same as out GTO so our 5851 strut mount business will be good for another 10 years. They still use a fluid filled radius rod bush and so on. The geometry is much improved and you can see the heritage from the recent Holdens all the way back to 15 year old plus Opels. The new rear structure incorporates a rail for a pseudo coilover style damper / spring. Fitting four coilovers to the new ZETA is already under development. We have pictures posted under the Camaro section of our website with the new suspension.

This is a game changing platform for GM. It is best of class technology and to quote one of my Aussie mates, "It is a bloody good jigger."

Hmmm... still using the same (not-so-great) strut mounts, still using fluid-filled radius rod bushings... and it's best of class technology? These seem mutually exclusive...
