Yesterday my dad went to ship me my deer rifle to me via UPS.
Michigan to Texas. It was all boxed up and ready to go.
The guy at the UPS store said it needed to be shipped from a gun dealer to another gun dealer. Is this true, even if there is no sale involved?

Anyone with firsthand knowledge?
Thanks,
Scott

I'm pretty sure you do need to ship it to an FFL.... But, uh... I would imagine if you took the barrel off (so it fit in a shorter box) and had it already packaged.... :secret: :secret: I mean how often do they really ask what it is your shipping?

That is true, if you declare it is a firearm when you ship it. If the box ends up getting opened and inspected and someone finds a gun, the shipper is gonna get busted.
I already had to do that same thing...Mi to TX, too.

Ihave had to do this as well. Shipped a hand gun from Columbus, Ohio to Fort Lauderdale. Had to wait five days once it arrived to pick it up.

The story I got was if shipping gun the anything but the reciever (and it better have a serial number) can be shipped person to person. The serialized reciever must be shiped to an authorized distributor and depending on circumstances it must be sent next day overnight.

I don't understand the next day part, but under law the reciever is the "gun" part and everything else is just an accessory.

Good Luck

Thanks guys,
I should make my brother do it since he had the deer rifle when I brought the rest of them down with me.
For the lower value of the gun, the trouble, and shipping costs, I'll probably just tell him to forget it, and get go buy a new one.

Handguns have to be shipped overnight but longuns can be ground.
