found one used sig p220 at a gun shop for $450. i am new to the hand gun world and was wondering everyone's opinon about them. also is this a fair price? thanks. is there anything in particular i should look at buying a used gun? and is the any other models i should look at before i buy this one. i did look at the new sd from springfield. it was nice but it didnt feel as comfortable as the sig.

now for the shotgun. had some friends tell me to get the remington 870. but then i found a saiga 12gau. anyone know much about either? thanks in advance.

depends on the condition, you should go with a competent person to check the quality.

P220's at the gun show were going for 500+ so 450 sounds pretty good.

I love my 870. Cheap and Reliable. I don't use my Sig 220 that much. I have been plagued with some feeding problems with this gun. It seems very ammo picky. Its good range gun though. And for under 500 in good shape I don't see you going wrong.

feeding problems, hmm. is this common woth the p220? is there anything in particular i should be aware of with the p220? have you run across any other problems?

I own a Sig 226 and have been very happy with it. Got it for 450 as a sig re-conditioned model, with night sights. Again based on condition, sounds like a good find.

Also I have a Remmington 1187 shotgun, have owned a 870. I prefer the automatic, as I only sport shoot. I just don't have the time to devote to hunting. However you can't go wrong with the remington, period. Granted people talk on and on about Benilli, or Beretta, or Browning. Personaly I want to try one of the new Ithaca guns.

I would highly recomend the Remington for someones first shotgun.

Stoeger M2000, uses the same action as the Benelli. Costs about 375 at cabelas or one of a dozen other places to get them. They aren't pretty but mine has had close to 1k shells in less than 60 days through it without one single jam or malfunction. I'm not claiming that the shotgun is the same quality or ergonomics as the Benelli, I'm just saying that it might be worth trying before you drop 3 times the amount of money on a gun that might fight the same needs. I ended up with a 28" model for sporting mostly. The gun stays clean, only a boresnake after each shooting session.

Check out Stoegers website http://www.stoegerindustries.com/ for more info.

I should also mention that I've shot everything from the 2.75 dram crap from walmart up to magnum steel, likes it all.

No pump shotgun for trap or skeet. Over/under or semi-auto. Sig P220 is a .45 cal and a very nice gun. Sigs quality is high. Kimber is a nice weapon to look at if the price is right!

It is hard to go wrong with Sigs. I had a sig 226 in 9mm and sold it. I really regret that. I now have a sig 226 in 40 cal. I also have a sig 239 in 9mm. I have always been a 45 cal. fan. I have a kimber custom full size CDP .45 cal. I also have a Springfield full size 1911 A1 loaded .45 cal. I have had glocks' ,berrettas' and other various handguns. I would say that if I had to choose a gun to carry that I would bet my life on it would probably end up being a Sig.
