My job is in the process of issuing new duty weapons. The new weapon is the Sig Sauer P226R DAK.

My current weapon is the Sig Sauer P226. My job is allowing us to purchase our old service weapon for around $450.00. My weapon is six years old. Would you buy the P226 at that price?
If nothing else I would buy it for the "memory". I mean you have had it for 6 years! and I am sure it will last a lot more.

Buncha Sig fans... GLOCK BABY! Better yet HK... I really don't know what I'm talking about though cause the only Sig I've ever shot was a rifle, I havn't a clue about the handguns. They might be better then anything else I've shot, who knows. Unless you've got a particular attatchment to it, I say retire the old, in with the new!
My LTC is going to be my new favorite "mod"... or at least my latest excuse for being broke, lol. I wants me a USP Tactical, Solid Snake style...

Tpr,
How do you guys feel about going double-action-only?
I don't like it, personally, but understand the reasoning.
To me, the Glock action is a perfect compromise for tactical use. Those Sigs sure are nice though!

But police don't use pistols tactically unless they are swat.
DAO is perfect for law enforcement because they need to have something mitigate before using lethal force.
Glock action invites cops in high intensity situations to get itchy trigger finger and invites situations of unarmed people getting shot multiple times.
I believe the NYPD uses the 226 with the DAK
My friend has a Glock and a 226 DAK and I prefer the DAK. More diliberate, i'm personally more accurate and yeah you can't crack off double taps and such but I think it's perfect for law enforcement.

I don't think I'd ever pass on buying my own weapon. With that said, only you know how badly you have abused it over the last several years. Is it like most cop guns in that it was carried alot but shot a little? Did you go to the range other than when you had to qualify or to practice the week before you had to qualify?
I mean no disrespect to LEOs, but when I was selling guns some of the most filthy, neglected firearms were ones carried by cops or that we got in as department trade-ins.
Oh, and you should know that this whole thing is just an attempt for your department to make money off of you. Whoever is selling ya'll the new guns usually has to include the buy-back of the old ones in their proposal, and they usally offer a pittance because the risk of what sort of garbage they may get is so high. The department offering to sell you your gun is their way of trying to make some extra cash.

The gun has not been abused. I clean it after everytime at the range after firing it and it once a month for regular cleanings. I have shot my service weapon at the range quite a bit on weekends.

Well, looks like you have a new personal firearm to purchase. .40 S&W is a fine caliber. I thought about purchasing a Sig in .40 after shooting the brother's Sig 9mm. A well made gun.
