As a birthday present I am getting my hubby a pair of Nitto 555r, P275/40R17 for our 2005 GTO. Do you guys buy them on line or locally? What is a good price for a pair?
Thanx in advance for advice :-)
UPDATE : -- I ordered the tires, paid 153 and got free shipping :-)

I always buy from discounttire, get free shipping, and usually the best prices.

I buy locally if possible........support local businesses and you get mounting, etc. thrown in. I've had several "out of round" tires from TireRack and Discount Tire Direct, I think they don't get the best "grade" of tire from the mfg.

I get the Internet price and usually will get a local dealer to match it. Goodyear will alway do this for me.
I worked on automating Michelin plants...specifically in the uniformity testing area and you are exactly correct. Tire manufacturers get quality tolerance parameters from the companies that buy their tires. Usually automobile manufacturers have the highest specs and mass retailers like Sam's Club have the lowest. So the mass retailers will take a tire that fails OEM specs. Surprisingly Sears specs were pretty high. I'm guessing that TireRack and Discount Tire will probably take the lower end quality tires.
