alright, I apologize as I realize there are probably a gajillion plus 4 threads on this already, but I am looking for more specific sites and prices, etc. where/what is a good tire I can buy for the winter? I think it'd be easier to get a snow tire more so than a beater for the winter. I've heard of Blizzak and that's about it.

this is my first winter with a real wheel drive car and just with a small, small dusting (less than a quarter of an inch) and It took me ****ing 20 seconds to get enough traction to get through an intersection without losing control. I knew the car was powerful, but I really underestimated it for snowtime. I have the stock 18s and am looking for a good snow tire at a decent price because I don't have a whole lot of money for the "absolute best".

the tread isn't the best on the tires, but it's good enough for now.... ?

also, i've always heard if you had a real wheel drive car, to just put dead weight in the trunk. well.... if anyone went THAT route, what is a good weight that won't hurt anything, but will help get you going? is there any bad that could come of doing that? messing up the springs? or anything along those lines?

50 lb sand bag and full tank of gas works for me...I use Continental Extreme contacts in stock size....All season but good in snow and very good when it's not snowing. Blizzeks are great on ice but handle like shit...

I use Hankook W300 Icebears in 235/45/17 (about $110 each) on my stock 17" wheels, along with a 70 lb tube of sand in the trunk.

I've got the Hankook IceBear 300's in 235/40/18 on stock 18's. I think I paid $163 each at Discount Tire. Not as agressive as the Blizzaks or M3's. Mine ride like silk in the dry and worked fine in the snow. They also look great, if you care about that. I have not checked the wear rating, so I don't know how many miles to expect from them (I only intend to use them in the winter). They perform well enough to be a year-round tire.
