I didn’t realize how bad the stock 235s are when cold. I tried to accelerate quickly (not even WOT) on a clear road when it was a little below freezing this morning and spun through 2nd. Any recommendations for cold-weather tires? I don’t specifically need snow tires, as there is no snow where I am.

as dumb as this is going to sound, I had Continental extreme contacts and they were awsome in the cold and the snow too!!! cheap and effective.
I have used Dunlop M3 winter tires for two winters in IL and the performance/traction is far better than OEM tires below 40 degrees

yeah the potenza's (sp) when cold = no traction even worse than normal

Get some good all seasons or just drive around some until the tires warm up. The 17" KDWS are pretty decent so you might want to give those a shot. You just can't stomp on em right away.

Buy Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero. I had them istalled (2) weeks ago. They are better then dunlops M3 IMO. They are more cold/dry performance tire then real snow tire. Stering is sharp and I would say that they are better then my summer Toyos T1R tires. I drive 90% of winter on dry/wet roads, and these tires are perfect for me. No spongy stering feel from them.
BTW: I bought them for $200 each installed.

I had the Dunlop M3's on my Z28 for a winter and I thought they were awesome....much better traction than Blizzaks in the cold and rain and the tread pattern looks pretty cool. Pretty cheap too. I guess the KDWS wouldn't be too bad since you aren't getting any snow....but I'd say the safest thing to do is go with a tire like the M3.

I'm using my Fuzion ZRis as my winter tires on the stock rims. They wheel-hop like an SOB in this colder weather. They wheel-hopped occasionaly in warm weather, but nothing like they are now!

If there's never any snow, I'd probably go for an all season like a Bridgestone Potenza RE960 or the Pirelli P Zero-Nero M&S.
Most any summer tire will get rock hard once it gets below about 40, while all seasons should stay pretty pliable under that.
