View Full Version : Where to measure on the car?

I have read threads and mulled numbers until my head hurts.

I just ordered a very cheap 18x9 +40 wheel @5x120, it is going on the front.

Looking for a cheap 265-35-18, needs to hold air for fifteen minutes. If you got one, post up.

So once I get this pig mounted, what all do I need to measure before I drive away?

I saw in one thread one of the vendors said 1/4" inside sidewall to strut is probably OK to go shooting apexes. I am going to run with that unless soemone has a better idea.

How much room do I need to be looking for between the edge of the fender and the tire as I saw the steering back and forth? Minimum, with the car parked.

Thank you.

9" wheel with 40mm offset? Your tire will be rubbing the strut very badly with that setup.

I don't know about the measurement with the fender and the steering, but I don't think you're even going to get that far. I'd be surprised if you can even get the wheel mounted correctly.

I guess I don't understand what is so confusing? There are LOTS of threads with the proper offsets. That wheel will not fit on the front w/o a spacer, and when you get it to clear the strut, it will stick out of the fender.

18x8.5 (I'm pretty sure) is the widest, with the norm beign 18x8 +35 to +40 on the front.

18x9.5 on the rear with +52 to +55 seems to be the sweet spot.

I run 19x8 (+40) w/ 245/35/19 on all four corners, lowered, and have no rubbing.

I believe if you were reading the same threads I've seen, they were running a spacer on the front with longer arp studs to fit that size rim

I don't see 9" on the front. Even my CCW's are only 8.5 and I'm sure John would have gone larger if they would fit.

The tire they use is a 245 so anything bigger is going to rub. A LOT

I already make contact with the fender liner at full lock so I would rethink your options.
