hey quick question.
I took my 05 gto into a tire rim shop. they said that they could hook me up with some Maas 20's, and they would fit. I told him he would prob have to roll the fenders, he said dont worry about it he wont.
here are the pictures
http://wayneswheels2000.com/MAAS.html
the one I am looking at is the 023MB 20" M23
he is gonna wrap them in Nitto low pro.
total price rims and tires around 1700.
so what do you guys think? is this possible to put this 20's?
thank you

Why would anyone screw up a great car like the GTO with 20"s..you must like ghetto mobiles or only be 18 years old!

I woudln't go with 20 inch wheels myself, but good luck. It'll depend on the width. If you stay narrow you shouldn't have to roll.

As for the 20s fitting, it can work if you have the right offsets and super low profile tires, I believe there are a couple Goats around with 20s. Also, 20s really aren't a good idea on a performance car, they're heavy and your ride quality is going to go way downhill, but if you just want to cruise I suppose it wouldn't be that big of a deal. If you are stuck on the MAAS wheels though, I would go with the M21 or M24 in 18s, or maybe 19s... The M23 looks like a truck/suv wheel and I don't think it would look right/good on a Goat. The styling of the MAAS wheels along with the black and or chrome is too "Bling" for my taste on the GTO, but to each his own, you have a black car so it might work. If you wanted chrome, Beyern 5s are probably my favorite chrome wheel on the GTO.
Personally, I would look at some more options before spending that kind of cash.

GTO on 20's looks pretty good on his ride, but I have 19's and the 30 serials profile doesn’t leave much rubber between the rim and the pavement.
Otherwise so long as you don’t go too wide and get the correct diameter tire they should fit fine with the correct offset.
BTW almost every post I’ve read on here were the tire shop says don’t worry about it, have rubbing issues. Just make sure you can return them if they don’t fit correctly.

You will kill your performance, and a wheel that size serves no function other than looks. Good Luck.

Those look truck wheels and ghetto-fabulous. And they will look bad on a GTO, they're just too big. And it says they're for FWD??
I would get some rims that make your CAR look good, not wheels that try to be their own bling show.

18's are the way to go... you can find a lot of nice looking rims that will really compliment your car. And you should spend no more than what you are planning to spend for these. Besides the idea of "wow I'm riding on 20's" why do you want rims that large?
I don't mean for that to sound like a d*ck statement but I'm sure you dont want to put an appearance mod on a performance car that takes away from it performance.

I'm not sure if they'll fit because you didn't include how wide the wheels were or what the offset was either. Looking at those wheels though and thinking of them on a GTO makes me want to :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: . I personally think that 18's would be a better choice though. I'd recommend staying with 18"s or 19"s max. Also I wouldn't base your judgement on those pictures from your link. That company was too cheap to even install them on a vehicle. Every picture was photo shopped. I have people ask me the size of my rims all the time and they are only 18"s.

I had 20's on my 99 t/a and i think it looked great. They were heavy as $hit but it didn't seem to hurt performance--i wanted to try them on my gto but i thought the bolt pattern was to far off to even try--now i kinda wished i woulda at least tried them on because i've seen many ws6 rims,(17's) on gto's so the bolt pattern must not be that far off. Go to the aussie websites for numerous pics of 20's on monaros/gto's and i remember a time when everyone said 20's on t/a's camaros was crazy now all kinds of people have them but i am with the crowd on this one--there is no room at all for big wheel/tire combos unless you wanna creep around at 20 mph and watch for every pothole

say no to 20's
That is his tact. But a more soften version...
Why wouldst thou defile a great car like the GTO with 20"s..thou must take to a run-down and densely populated area lived in by a group that experiences discrimination that may reflect ones vehicle or only be 18 years old.

Look at TSW's they have some nice reasonably priced rims that will bolt up, or you can stagger them and have to have fenders rolled/drag bags but very nice set up.

From what i've seen with the autotech car and some other manaros and commadores with 20s in Australia, i think its a nice look and give the car a far more leaner look.
The catch is finding wheels that complemint the car and not fight it for the attention of onlookers. Face it, these days 20's don't get anyones attention anymore especially not the"bling bling" crowd's. If size is your gauge for attention getting rims then 20s are 6 inches to short!

I've got 19/20's on one of my Impalas, but just don't think those sizes of wheels "fit" the size of the GTO's fenders very well. 18's are "just right" on these cars.
BreytonGTO

Another thing to keep in mind if someone does decide to get 20"s is the sidewall on the tire is so small you will literally ruin the rims within a year of having them. They will be so bent and warped from the abuse of the road that it will almost be impossible to balance them.
The KHS 20"s on my fathers Deville were almost instantly warped. Also the Breyton Magic 19x10"s on our 540i Sport are ruined from having to sacrafice tire size to fit.

I have had both on my current goat. I went to the 18's purely for the width and offset. You statements are not based on experience. My mileage was the same as now and if there was a loss in power due to the 20's I had, it was not noticeable in the least. They weighed maybe 4-5 pounds more than the 18 inch thruxtons I have now. The ride was slightly more harsh than now but not tremeandously different. I never bent my rims at all in fact I will be selling the whole setup soon, and I defiantly drove it hard. So here is an educated, experienced opinion. If you like em then buy em and who cares what anyone else thinks.

I think it is each to their own. Some people like them some don't. Some guys here are putting 22s on Commodore utes. Hell, our factory HSVs (the GTS) come standard with 20s and I guarantee they won't be downgrading to 18s. I was at a dealer the other day and they had a GTS next to a clubsport R8 (which look very similar externally although the R8 has 19s) and the GTS just looked so much better with the 20s.
As for Monaros, there are plenty getting around Oz with 20s, and I think they look great. So much so I put 20s on mine. I've had them on for a year now and love the way they make the car look. I've never had a drama with handling or bent rims, although the ride is definitley firmer than the 18s that were stock. As for performance, I guess 20s will never be as good but I don't race on the street and if I go to the track I'd use different wheels and tyres anyway.
As I said each to their own and as mentioned previously, it depends a lot on the rim choice. Maybe it's a cultural thing, which is why you guys intitially got 17s and 18s more recently while the Oz GTOs get 19s and now HSVs get 20s. I see GTOs with 18s and some look too small for my liking, but some look fine.

I would imagine there's nothing special about the offsets because the wheels don't appear to be much, if any, wider than factory; probably very close to the factory numbers.

This car is made for racing not for show
Some people care about getting their car down a quarter mile of pavement a tenth of a second faster, others would rather spend that money and make their car look good. Nothing wrong with either one.

You mentioned running on the track, how well does it work there?
Thanks!!!
:aus_flag:
He didn't say he races it at the track!
As for performance, I guess 20s will never be as good but I don't race on the street and if I go to the track I'd use different wheels and tyres anyway.

"MADE for racing"? lol With the exception of having a big engine, what evidence do you have of that?
The car weighs nearly 4000lbs, has a suspension that's neither idea for drag or road racing, and last but not least, requires a shoehorn to fit anything larger than 245's/265's.

Hey 1000devils, Coming from someone who spent $$dollars to put an aftermarket bonnet on that looks worse than the factory one (IMHO) I'm not too worried that you don't like my wheels - hey how much faster did it go with the bonnet mod. :wiggle: ..and I think your wheels could do with some bling. Any higher at the front and you could go off-roading. Each to their own I guess! Enough banter, your car looks fine...honestly it does.

I would imagine there's nothing special about the offsets because the wheels don't appear to be much, if any, wider than factory; probably very close to the factory numbers.
Havoc, you are right on the mark. The wheels are slightly wider than stock (they 8.5inch). I will post the details in a thread below.

Do you have any close-up shots of your Sat/Nav system? Appears to be a pretty clean install.
The SatNav system is the VDO Dayton system that I installed myself. This is the same system that is/was available from the factory (Holden) that you get if you tick the Satnav option. I got all the brackets and surrounds from Holden which is why is a neat fit. I bought a system off ebay and saved a heap. I also added a VDO Dayton Multimedia system (more BLING) and it allows DVDs, photos, MP3s to played through the system. I will post some pics up in a subsequent post.
Looks great YCV8!!! In addition to the wheel/tire question posted earlier. Could you please tell us what springs you're running (brand, amount of lowering, rate or part numbers if Pedders, King's, or Whiteline's) and any other suspension mods? You mentioned running on the track, how well does it work there?
Thanks!!!

Yellow-GTO-Monster - I'm not sure which way you were going with that comment, but my car is made for driving not racing. It is a daily driver. If I wanted to race I would find myself something a little lighter like an EVO or WRX, but I love the V8 feel and sound and cruising in it. I don't race on the streets regardless.
Absolutely gorgeous, just wondering...what are the offsets on your wheels? Do you ever get rubbing? What kind/size tires do you have?
I get no rubbing, although I am about to go wider on the tyres, will let you know then. I will post details that I emailed to Kingsize upon his request - he must like Bling too. :)

Right again Havoc. I don't race it at the track. I am looking at going to a track day in the near future but I have my stock wheels for that, and it would be for some fun and not serious. Most doing serious track work or running serious strip times aren't running on their street tyres anyway, they are using stickier/wider compounds. I agree with everything you said.
My car is a daily driver and I put the wheels on it because I think they look good and other than the odd person (and they are usually the ones that feel they need to be loudest which tells you something) that doesn't like them (it's always a size thing with them) I usually get positive comments. In the end I didn't put them on to for 1000devils satisfaction, only my own. And they weren't expensive.

I will take some better photos for you this arvo.
The system is a VDO Dayton MS5400 and I have added an MC5400 multimedia system attached to a cheapy 6 stacker DVD player. I can play music DVDs through the system onto the screen and or a DVD full of MP3s. The units mount in the boot suspended from underneath the parcel shelf - Holden makes the brackets to fit.
I got the DVD, Satnav and MC5400 off ebay and got the surround, brackets from Holden. All Oz Monaros have all the satnav wiring installed, ie speed sensor, power, reverse, etc pre-installed and they run to a connector (white) which is mainted on the passenger side (left) just above the kick panel. I go the wiring details and just wired it in. I got the other half of the connector from a distributor in Melbourne Aus. It wasn't hard at all as I am far from experienced with any of this stuff.

+2:thumbs: Oh crap I have 19s:damnyou:
It's ok johnny, I personally think 19's are perfect on our goats. I couldn't stand the ugly ass 17's that came with my goat. 18's are still kinda ok, but better than 17's.
Some 20's look pretty good on these cars too.

Thanks for all the details... ahh hah?! Holden surround and bracketing! No wonder it looks like it belongs there. Unfortunately it's doubtful our cars are equipped with any of the factory wiring for this. :(
... btw; great job on the car, inside and out! Clearly styled by someone who knows what the hell they're doing.

You can still install them even if the satnav connector wasn't there. The VDO can be installed on any vehicle, they are/were the factory satnav in Europe on BMWs and Bentleys to name some. They are quite cheap too now. Fitting the screen wouldn't be a drama I don't think but mounting the unit in the boot would be prob as your boot is half the size thanks to the fuel tank relocation. I know of people fitting the satnav to utes and putting the unit under the seat.
Dude, your car looks bad ass!!
Thanks Rolencode GTO.
I quite like the wheels on your GTO (pic in your avatar). Can you post a larger pic for us.

Oh yeah and thanks for the compliment re the vehicle. Much appreciated, makes the all the money and effort a little more worth it when someone else appreciates your efforts rather than bag something because it's not their fancy.

I give credit where credit is due - the red one is hands down the best looking car, of any kind, not just GTO, that I've ever seen on 20 inch wheels. I suspect it's because they don't LOOK like what most people normally see in a 20 inch wheel. Most of the other GTOs/Ozmobiles photoed show the standard bling bling rapper wheels (some with a drop for extra credit even!). So, the red is cool. Props to you.

The wheels are made by a Chinese mob called CTW but the wheel types are called 'COOL'. They also go by the name Akuza (the brand that is). Before you cry 'Chinese', believe it or not they are the same company that makes and supplys GM Holden VZ wheels including the Monaro so they probably made your stock wheels.
Their web site is www.citictrading.com.au
My wheels are 20x8.5". At the moment I am only running 225/35s because they fit without any mods or any rubbing and the brand tyre I have is the same actual width as my stock 235s when compared right up against each other. I am planning on getting the rear guards rolled and going to go to 245s and hope they don't rub. I will have to get coil overs on the front to fit 245/35s I believe. 245/30 R20s might fit but 245/35 R20s are too tall and hit the front strut and will rub at the rear.
They do come in 19s which might be the best option BUT if you want some decent width but I noticed that the 19s are only 8" wide (which is same as standard).
They cost me the equivalent of approx US$2100 with tyres fitted so I can't tell how much they are on their own. Having said that the tyres are cheapies but have served me well so far - 1 year so far, they seem to grip okay.
The springs are Pedders, 1.5" lower at front and 1" lower at rear. I have not rim issues or rubbing issues however as mentioned above I am going to 245/30 R20s next set. I guess it will depend on your roads. If they are good then 20s are great, if the roads are rough and full of pot holes then I'd go 19s max. My roads are awesome here so not a drama (touch wood) and our HSV GTS comes stock with 20s now.
Hope that helps.

Hey guys, I posted some more photos of my Monaro (with 20s of course) in a new thread (I didn't want to hijack this thread anymore than I already have).
Take a look if you are interested - they show the engine faded through the bonnet - edited on photoshop.

say no to 20's
That is his tact. But a more soften version...
Why wouldst thou defile a great car like the GTO with 20"s..thou must take to a run-down and densely populated area lived in by a group that experiences discrimination that may reflect ones vehicle or only be 18 years old.
