Need opinions.

http://ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124468

Edit:
I should clarify that I already have:

Glock 27
Glock 23
Smith & Wesson .44, with the 10" Barrel (I love saying that, see pic in above thread)
S&M .22 revolver
S&M .22 pistol
S&M .357 revolver
Mosburg 12 gauge

and others..........

Looking for a subcompact, large caliber concealed carry pistol.

Thanks for all opinions

There's not much that is an autoloader, useful, and smaller then a sub-compact Glock. The only Glock smaller would be the 26 in 9mm. You might want to try a S&W J-frame revolver in .38 spl or .357 mag if you like pain.

Check out the new sub compact XD pistols from Springfield. They are autoloaders, and small as a glack. 3 inch barrels I believe. I have the compact, 4 inch barrel XD 40 and I love that freakin gun.

Anything mainstream is a good choice. Try going to a shooting range that offers rentals and shoot a couple different guns. Buy what you shoot the best...

I carry a Beretta 9000S .40cal. At the time that I bought it (several years ago), it was the smallest large caliber pistol that you could buy. Polymer frame and very ergonomic but the grip is a little wide to accommodate the double-stack clip. If you have small hands, it won't feel very comfortable to you.

I agree, I'm an HK fan, but whatever works best for you. Choosing a gun is like choosing a car, Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota all make great cars, but they all have their individual quirks and they all have their fanboys. Go take some test drives see what you like and don't like. Just like cars, the Bavarian brands are exceptionally well engineered, but much more expensive, The American brands are a bit more affordable and still have great quality and reliability, many of the Asian brands (and Central and South American) are great but I'm still weary of anything undrpriced.

NEVER NEVER NEVER buy a gun before you shoot it. EVER.

I can't hit the broadside of a barn with a subcompact glock, but I'll drive nails with a sig all damn day.

i agree, shoot lots of guns before you buy. i dont own because i have no reason, but i go to the range all the time.

my favorite is the reg size glock 9mm, i think its called the 23. the 40cal one is nice too, but im just more comfortable popping off rounds of the 9mm.

i cant get my hands to fit right on compact pistols, and my hands arent really taht big for my body (but im 6'7" so theyre still a little big i guess)

definitely shoot a lot of guns before you buy.

I already have the 9mm Glock 23. Too big for concealment though, thats why I got the G27. Some of the subcompacts suggested look good. However, not all gun shops carry all makes, so I was trying to get some feedback so I have an idea and can call ahead. Thanks for the info.

I completely agree! I've had a Glock 19 for quite awhile and while I do like it it pales in comparison now (again personal pref!) When I was looking at a new pistol I ended up renting a bunch of guns to shoot including the normal S&W, Glock, 1911 knock offs ect and when I got to the H&K I put a full clip through it and immediately bought it. It's seriously amazing, if you have the opportunity I recommend renting anything you are considering buying obviously and going with what feels right and for me it was night and day to the H&K from everything else. Plus I like some of the features such as a conventinal safety and while I know conventional thinking still rings true "pull the trigger when you are ready to fire, who needs a safety" it's nice to just have it there plus it works in double action mode and even has a de****ing function built in.

Like what GTPrix said above, is the reason I bought a Sig 226 in .40. It just felt right in my hand.
I do like the Walther P99 as an option (and its S&W counterpart), H&K was also in the top running, but I wanted an all metal gun.
XD's are bad ass, all calibers and models, I would take one over a Glock any day.

I would also start by picking a caliber for your CCW. I specifically chose .40 due to recomendations by my family Law and Military officers. Good Luck.

40s are good because they're effective and the rounds are cheep as hell. I get like, 100 .40 rounds at walmart for 13 bucks usually. Plus, if you wanna blow the shit out of something, just get hollowpoints. I was making pumpkins all but explode at the range after holloween with hollowpoints in my glock 22 (.40cal)

Go for the Kimber Ultra Carry II or any of the Kimber compacts in .45 ACP.

They are my favorite because they are highly accurate, extremely well built on the most modern machinery and a comparative deal compared to some others out there.

I carry a Sig P239 off-duty. .40 cal, 4" barrel, and a single stack magazine make for a fantastic CC gun.

If that is not big enough power, I also have a Glock 29 10mm. That thing would take down an elephant.

You know, I forgot about the baby eagle. Its orginally made by IMI, just like the desert eagle (that big nickel mofo posted above). I looked at the all metal version in 40 Cal, but I couldn't shoot one before I bought. Thus I stuck with Walther, Sig, and XD at the end.

Admittedly Kimber is great equipment if you want a 1911 Clone. Then again so is any custom gun.

Geez, I feel so old-school here...

I have had a Colt 1991A1 Commander .45 ACP for years, and I think it's the greatest. It's just thin and short enough to conceal, but large enough to shoot +P rounds all day with no discomfort. Amazingly accurate too, especially considering I still have GI sights on it. Oh yeah, no misfires after thousands of rounds either. An "oldie but goodie" for sure...Still, I don't know if I'll ever feel the need for a "better" handgun, perhaps a .22LR auto just for fun.

Depends on your price range and shooting preferences...

You a glock fan or a 1911 fan? different grip angles for different people. If you are alreayd a glock fan and accurate with them go with the sub compact glock in .40. IF you like 1911 style and are on a budget, XD40s are amazing pieces of machinery.

Personally if I had the money I would get a Kimber RCPII. Completely stripped down, no snag gun. Awesom Awesome piece, but they are a grand.

I will vouch for that one... I sold my HK USP 45, HK 1911 TRP Operator, beretta 92FS and 96FS and picked up a XD 9mm 5 inch and a XD 45 ACP 4 inch... they are BY FAR the best guns ive EVER shot... I shot my buddy's new Glock 36 subcompact .45, and for being a small gun chambered in a big round, it was exceptionally controllable. Double taps were easily contained within about a 2 1/2 to 3 inch spread at 15 yards

i don't carry on my person but i do carry in all of my vehicles. in the truck theres a loaded parkerized springfield armory. in the GTO theres a colt commander lightweight stainless.

John Moses Browning's Model 1911 is still, 95 years after the fact, the end all be all shooters pistol.

and i'm an FFL so if anybody wants to price check or needs any help with firearms or related topics just IM me and i'll try to help yall out.

(P.S. kimbers are fine weapons but their magazines are pure shit. throw the factory magazines in the trash and pick yourself up some wilson combat mags for it. you can gain an extra shot with a full size this way as well)

My wife had one of these and liked it. A little spendy to shoot though... and it's like carrying around a boat anchor. Now we're getting her a Ruger snub nosed SP101 5 shot .357 to carry. Can't go wrong with a wheel gun.
