With all the gun threads around I figured this would be a good way of showing your stuff! Ill start
http://ls1gto.com/forums/attachment.php?attachment id=51399&stc=1&d=1170442836
Bushmaster ar-15, skeleton stock, tac latch on the t-handle, ris, magpul rail covers, hogue grip, detach hand guard, and cheap 6x scope. The first rifle I have owned. My 2nd love next to the GTO.
http://ls1gto.com/forums/attachment.php?attachment id=51400&stc=1&d=1170442842
For home defense duty, and some slug shooting at the range.
The mossy isnt a picture of mine, mine is at the factory having ghost ring sights installed so ill post pictures when It returns.
Really wish I could have a handgun already. Damn New York. In a little over a year I plan on getting a nice 1911. Have shot tons of handguns before and nothing has felt as great as the 1911. Glocks are okay feel to much like a BB gun for my taste, I truly hate the feel of a sig but I only shot a p228. I really liked the beretta 92f for repeated accuracy. I could dump the mag and still have a nice grouping. For overall power, accuracy, and comfort the 1911 is truly calling my name. The only problem will be picking which brand and configuration I want! Im thinking a kimber, everytime wolfdogs posts a picture of his carry I start to get the itch. He led me true with zaino ill bet the same with a handgun! :bubbrub

Midnight Goat,
I've seen you post that picture before, I think you need to be very careful. That hand grenade in the pic appears to be real. Even if it isn't, it looks it. Did you buy one of those dummy nades and paint it? If you did, change it back to blue. I believe it could even be a felony to have something altered to look like a real explosive device.
Also, aren't you in NY? Don't they still have the AWB in effect there? Looks like you have at least 3 "evil features": folding stock, flash suppressor, and "high capacity" magazine.
Not trying to be a bitch, I just don't want to see anyone get in trouble.

he's fine on the gun, thats a fixed stock, a compensator, has no bayonet lug and high cap magazines are fine as long as they are dated pre 1994 AWB
all the dummy grenades down here are original color, they just have a hole drilled through the bottom

Correct! thats a muzzle break not a flash hider, that isnt a folding stock, and the hi caps are dated 88 and 89. The grenade has a hole drilled into the bottom.. nothing more than a paperweight. Tex covered all the bases just figured id reiterate.

i'll also add that the AWB prohibited manufacture of "assault weapons" not possession. it is still legal to have an "assault weapon" in NY if the gun was manufactured prior to the AWB.
the AWB on the federal level no longer exists but several states (NY, MD, CA, NJ CT(?)) still have state level bans
the AR15 is kind of my specialty, i've built a shitpile of them and still own 4. an SP1 vietnam issue clone, bushmaster superlight, bushmaster M16A2 clone and a bushmaster M4gery
if anybody wants an eeeeeeeeeeevil "assault weapon" now is the time. go forth and buy one, they're all different colors of fun....................
and if you're in a state that allows NFA class 3 and you've got a bunch of money it is still perfectly legal to own, possess and shoot fully automatic weaponry as well. its surprising how few people know that...........

Wow thats a NICE collection. Ive been lusting over a garand for a while but college student + GTO + ammo = broke. That carbine is nice too very accurate, very light, and little recoil. Is that 1919 full auto or is it single only. I would love to experience a full auto weapon. Probably wouldnt hit much but just for the experience.
Here's my latest gun. I got it several months ago. I've already gone through that box of ammo and more. :D

It is a MOPAR wrapper. But only because Dimestore-Chrysler puts all of the AMC parts in MOPAR bags now. (Chrysler bought AMC back in 1987 to get the Jeep brand.) That was a part for my 1977 Jeep Cherokee (http://www.grimmjeeper.com/beavis).

Hey wolfdogs how would you compare that xd 45 to the kimber. I have heard only good things about the xd but pretty much have my heart set on a 1911. Which do you like better?
for concealed carry...the Kimber Ultra Raptor II is the ticket in my book. 3" barrel and very accurate and very concealable for a .45
for home protection, the XD-45 is my choice. why? much less recoil and much more round capacity to back it up... 4" barrel. at 25 feet..that Kimber is as accurate as the XD...after that..the XD starts gaining in accuracy... but what the heck... most encounters are at 15 feet anyway... LOL
one for carry, one for home. the wife can handle the XD too...she cant stand the recoil on the Kimber.
I love the Kimber.....

the 1919 was semi-automatic. $1200 pricetag as opposed to $20,000
with a hand crank the semi version is capable of damned near the same rate of fire as the full auto though (1919 is a slow cycler)
shooting fully automatic is very, very entertaining. fun but that's about it. for suppressing fire in battle it can't be beat but for civilian ownership it's pretty much just a really really quick way to rack up ammo bills.
the XD45 really can't be compared to the 1911. about the only thing they have in common is the caliber. my go-to answer for "this or that" is get both! that said the 1911 is my pistol of choice. there a springfield armory loaded parkerized sitting under the seat in my GTO right this second

1911 > All other .45 autopistols out there IMO in terms of accuracy and comfort.
Glock has the edge in ammo capacity and reliability, but IMO Glocks are the AK47 of handguns. You can bury them at the beach, come back in a year and they will still fire. They're rough, ugly, have a poor trigger (IMO) and are not the most ergonomic pistol, but they go bang every time.
With that said, I prefer the 1911 hands down

TexRdnec
02-02-2007, 12:20 PM
you can look at gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com for some good deals. you buy just like on ebay but then the seller ships to a dealer of your choice and you do the paperwork there. saves on sales tax if you buy it out of state too. dealers usually charge about $20 for the transfer fee
you can find about anything at atlanticfirearms.com, buy them straight from them and then do the transfer thing
you can also go to a dealer and buy the thing or just buy the lower, which is what is considered the firearm. then you can buy the upper of your choice at your convenience, have it shipped straight to you and then just slap it together, this is what i do.
good complete lower would be a rock river arms, colt, bushmaster or a few other brands (there are brands to stay far far away from, they are not all created equal) and should cost about $300. then depending on the upper you're looking at about another $500. you can split the cost of an AR over time this way too............

10mm is cool but remember two things.
1. Glock is really the only company pushing a 10mm so ammo is EXPENSIVE!
1000 rounds form ammo man for federal red box is 350
same brand 1000 rounds of 45 acp, not a cheap round, 269
2. they are inadequate for self defense. Lot's of over penetration and if you ever have to use it that last thing you need is a prosecutor telling the jury about how you carry a round that the FBI deemed more powerful than necessary. They did it in Arizona after a guy shot a vagrant in the forest while hiking.

Here's an interesting one for you single action guys. It's a custom (old model) Ruger 3-screw Blackhawk done by Joe Bowman (http://www.joebowman.com) (known as - The Straight Shooter). It's set up for quick draw and has one of the smoothest actions I have ever seen on a single action. I talked to Joe recently about this gun and he remembers doing it (over 30 years ago), and said it was set up as a "working gun" (I don't have to tell you what that means). I brought this gun to one of our local gun shows and showed it to some of the folks at the SASS booth (http://www.sassnet.com). None of them have ever seen an example of Joe's work before (in SASS Circles, Joe is a legend and frequently speaks at their national conventions). They did point out to me that this gun could never be used in a SASS competition because of the modified hammer spur - not that this matters much to me.

The ammo is something i was wanting to look into....i hear a lot of guys are packing the 10mm for their backup firearm while grizzly hunting.....As for the arizona thing if i want to cary a 44mag for my protection who is to tell me its "too powerful" if i ever had to use deadly force i want something i know is going to put them down....and fast.....still the .45 it proven tried and true

I'm just saying, there was a case in Arizona where the guy shot someone with 10mm JHP 3 times center mast, then tried to render care and call for help, and the prosecutor would up making a big deal about the power of the weapon and the fact he was using JHPs. He got convicted and when they interviewed the jury later, they keyed on it a lot. Why did he need such a powerful gun, why did he need hollowpoint? His defense even made the case that he needed them because he was carrying for protection from wild animals not humans but to no avail.

pretty much the only folks that dont swear by 1911s are those that have never fired one.
i was a huge beretta fan (and still like them) and browning fan (still like them too) but after I pulled the trigger on my first Kimber I was hooked.
quite simply the best handgun for the money on the market hands down.
sure there are nicer weapons.....Ed Brown, Wilson Combat......etc.....but hell, they are two and three times the price of a very fine kimber with the same features.

Luke0927, I have a Glock 29 in 10mm and I love it. The 10 is a very versital round, it can be loaded down at slower .40 S&W specs or up to totally wild. Double Tap sells some of the best 10mm ammo out there. I would suggest that you get a reloading press to really get everything out of the 10mm, like others have said it is not as common as .40/9mm etc. You can buy a box of Remington UMC 180 grain ball for $18.00 per 50 so it isn't totally out of line.
As to the too much power, many police agencies still use the 10mm with no problems. I have read on the case that was quoted above and I think they would have pushed the same line if the guy had used a .25 ACP.

Definitely....that M4 is about 3 whole pounds lighter than the 20" in the front. It's a pleasure to shoulder and fire it. On the other hand, the big HBAR rifle is over 9 pounds UNLOADED!
What does that mean? Are black rifles illegal in Commifornia?
Don't take it TOTALLY literally. What it basically means is that California has enacted legislation that outlaws a lot of AR-15 TYPE firearms (aka black rifles) based on fairly stupid premises.
for example, firearms that have pistol grips are portrayed as more dangerous than those with conventional stocks. Those with bayonet lugs on the barrels are portrayed as more dangerous than those without (because there are FAR too many drive by bayonetings every year )
Basically the "black rifles" are all the civilian derivatives of military firearms (HK 33, AR-15/M16, FN FAL, etc etc etc).
The aforementioned legislation seems to outlaw a lot of these more or less because they're scarier looking than your average wood-stock, slick top hunting rifle.
Basically, because anti-gun nuts pretend that this...
http://i.timeinc.net/fieldstream/newguns06/rem_mod 750_sm.jpg
....is somehow less dangerous than this....
http://images.military.com/pics/SoldierTech_AR10-1jpg.jpg
....Even though both are semi-automatic and fire the same caliber round, in many places gun manufacturers had to turn guns like this....
http://www.jb370.de/data/clanky/g36/G36.jpg
...into monstrosities like this in order to make them legal to sell in certain places....
http://www.strzelnica-magnum.pl/sklep/images/SL8.jpg
YES, the last two rifles pictured are based on the SAME basic weapon (same action, same caliber), yet one is outlawed in many places and the other isn't....

Thanks.. it's a nice gun.. not worth what H&K wants for it, but I paid about a grand for it. I haven't shot any $1000 1911's, but I'm kind of curious how they'd stack up against it.

XD triggers are teh suck.
for me, most top shelf pistols are relatively similar. they're all UTTERLY dependable, are all man-accurate out to 50 yards, all carry enough of your prefered flavor of ammo to do the job, can take a beating, and all have a large supply of mags, holsters, grips, sights, etc to let you have fun accessorizing.
what makes or breaks a pistol IMO is the trigger. IMO Glock and XD triggers are some of the WORST triggers out there on the top shelf pistols. shooting one of those is like "mushmushmushmuBANG" whereas a 1911 is "takeupBANG" every time.
Scurvy
02-05-2007, 10:04 PM
First off, I love the XD trigger, much better than the glock because it's made out of metal and it doesn't pull the striker back at all. It breaks like glass. Then again, I'm coming from a Hi-power, quite possily the worst trigger ever.
Second off, how can you compare a xd or a glock to a 1911? how are xds or glocks, top shelf pistols? They are all readily available for <600 bucks. A good 1911 is gonna set you back at least 850.
Third, and I may be wrong about this, but most if not all 1911's are missing a firing pin safety, hence the reason for no mushmushmush and a shorter takeup. I think if there are any with firing pin safeties they are connected to the grip safety and not the trigger, as with most other auto's.
fourth, An XD with a 100 dollar trigger job is gonne be just as crisp as most 1911s but for 550 (xd45 for 450 + trigger job) as opposed to at least 850.
I'm not bashing the 1911, I love them, I wish I had one, but I just don't think they are comprable. Nothing about a XD and a 1911 are the same except the grip angle, the inclusion of the grip safety, and they can be shot in .45

It only keeps people from having military weapons when something crazy pops off and its time for revolution.
And thats why it happens. It has been an historical precursor to a totalitarian regime. First, take the citizens guns, then they cant fight back. We have an extra hinderance in that our military is sworn to a document (the constitution) not a man. We only have to obey LAWFUL orders from the president. I'm still not sure how that parts gonna play out. Right now i suspect that police would be used more than military to violate the rights of citizens, and the military will be used to protect the leadership. The main point here is that Military and Law enforcement combined are still out numbered by armed citizens. Thats not counting the Military and LE personell who would side with the citizens. That would be a good number of them.
