I think FBI uses Sig now, but not .45, it would be .40. I love Sig, 1911 aside, a Sig is my favorite pistol. CAshy, but worth it.

I have a Sig 226 (full size 9mm) it's nice. My duty weapon is a Glock 23 -I love it.
Comes down to personal preference.

Try the Sprigfeild XD. They make a 3in in .45 cal. It's the smallest one on the market with a picatiny(sp?) rail.

I've owned many Sigs and still have a 232SL but for .45 cal once you shoot a Kimber forget about the others. Kimber makes one of the best 1911s around. The Kimber site is www.kimberamerica.com
Enjoy!

yeah that kimber .45 1911 did fill nice....i have heard stories though about the kimber....so have had them work flawless and others have had issues. I want a gun i know will fire every time i mean it could be your life at stake here.

I own a Sig 229 in 40 cal. Love it. However I would also have to recommend the Springfield XD line. I also prefer the 40 cal over the 45, mostly becasue of the trajectory. Comes down to personal preference, but stay away from 9mm. Just not enough mass for self defense. Great for Target practice though.

I have shot various 1911 models from high end customs to bottom end. Kimber is probably the best bang for the buck 1911 on the market. They are very tight accurate guns. I have shot one side by side with a Wilson combat costing more than twice as much. The kimber shot just as tight groups as the Wilson and really didn't feel much different. The only drawback is I have had one failure with my Kimber custom 1911. The ejector broke during one shooting session.
I have owned a Berretta 9mm model 92. It was a decent gun, not extremely accurate but was fun to shoot. Haven't had any failures with model 92 while I owned it.
I owned a glock 40cal model 22. Different handle angle that you need to get used to. Seems to be fairly accurate. However, I did have firing pin failures twice with this gun.
I currently own a Springfield Armory 1911 A1 loaded. Nice gun that shoots well but not quite as accurate as the Kimber. Have not had any failures with this gun but I don't shoot it as often as the Kimber.
I also own 2 sigs. 9mm P239 and 40cal P226. I have owned other sigs before these 2. Every Sig I have shot has been very comfortable to shoot with very good combat accuracy. I can shoot a slightly tighter group with the kimber but the sig is still very accurate for a combat gun. I have never had a failure with any sig I have owned or currently own.
So, if I were wanting a fun 1911 to target shoot but only carry sparingly I would buy the Kimber. If I am carrying a handgun that my life depends on it firing every time without failure or a home defense gun I would take any Sig hands down.

I have .40 cal i like to have a wider variety of calibers so thats why i was looking for hte .45 this time.....i was considering the 10mm but the cost of ammo for it is leaning me back to the .45

I like both, the coast guard is the branch that has moved to the sig, we use the P229, it is a 40 not a 45 but I really enjoy shooting it. I am in the same dilemma, I am not sure if I want the sig that I can get a great discount on or the xd, I also like the fact that the Kimbers are smaller so easier for concealed carry. Good luck with your decision.

shoot a 1911 and you will never shoot anything else again, IMO.
as someone has already stated, side by side with very high end weapons (wilson combat, les baer, ed brown) kimbers perform just as well and have the same features for less money.
I have never had a failure from a kimber and I have shot many, many thousands of rounds through them.
stillgreedy, im in olive branch MS.
if you ever want to meet at rangemaster, or whitten arms (its a different name now i think) I will be glad to let you shoot a kimber before you buy.

The XD45 compact is not a 3 inch barrel. it's the 4 inch barrel used in the regular xd45. There is no successful 3 inch .45 out there that is not based on the 1911 frame.
You are right thought, it is the smallest 45 available with a rail and a light specifically for the little rail

As far as Sigs though, they are awesome
A lot of people say the military specs for their new pistol to replace the beretta was tailor made for the P220 in .45
Friend has a 228 in 357 SIG and I like it. It has a DAK trigger on it which is def the way to go if you want double action only.

Go with the Kimber! Once you fire a few shots through them they work flawless! I love mine =)

I've been carrying a P226 as a duty weapon for 20 years. Love it. I believe the Secret Service WAS carrying the Sig...not sure if they still do or not though.

Sig P226 :ftw:
Department of Homeland Security
FBI
US Navy Seal
they all made SIG their brand of choice and what they assign their officers after grueling tests...i have a P226 for my on duty...aim is dead on, grip is comfortable, sights are great (i have upgraded trimivium night sights). I can't say one bad thing about the gun...just make sure you have bigger hands and long finger...the trigger pull can be a bit long for people with small hands
