I want to sell one of my hand guns. What is the best way to get the most money??? I have Colt Pyton 8" Nickel. It was NIB when I purchased it. Probably made in the early 80's. I have put 100 rounds through it. I have taken very good care of it, never dropped, no scratches, mint grips, very light turn marks from shooting, and maintained it best as I know how. Paid $1200 for it 5 years ago. Any idea what it is worth? How is the paper work for transfer taken car of? I am in Missouri.

Thanks for any help.
Smokey

I can post pics if anyone wants.

The easiest way is to put an ad in your local paper and/or at your local shooting range if they will let you. Selling it private party is MUCH easier than any other method because you don't need to do any paperwork, nor do you need to get a dealer involved. As long as you have no reason to believe that the buyer should not be in posession of a firearm, you may sell it to him/her in good faith. If you can't find a local buyer, you can put it on gunbroker.com-- it's kinda like ebay for guns, but then you will need to send it to a dealer on the buyer's end, and some dealers require that it be sent to them FROM a dealer-- this means that you will have to give it to your local dealer, who will ship it to the buyer's dealer, and usually will do so for a fee.

The last handgun I sold was on EBay.:gr_jest: That was 1997 or so, back when they allowed gun sales. A Sig .40.

Unless you live in a commie state you can sell a gun to whomever you want, as long as they're not a restricted person, like a felon or a mental case. There's nothing special you need to do just because you're selling a gun.

Thankfully the Brady Campaign haven't got their hands on this yet but they are trying.

This is the infamous gun show loophole everyone talks about.

If you own a firearm that you didn't have to register in your name, then you can sell it to whomever you want, no paperwork needed.

go to gunbroker.com and read their "how-to" section, it will explain everything you need to know.

colt no longer makes double action revolvers so there is a demand for excellent condition anacondas and pythons. i just transfered a used 6" python for a guy that paid $1200. my bet is that you'll at least get your money back from it, possibly more.

I like gunbroker.com personally. Auctionarms.com is another good one.

Always get a signed FFL to protect yourself.

and if your python was a 6 inch I would save you the trouble of listing it.

I say cover your butt. Look online, you can print out a free contract for your state. Then if the person ever commits a crime with it and they run the serial# showing it registered to you. You have proof that you sold it and to whom. As a buyer I would feel better with a bill of sale as well. So I can prove I bought it from you. Just my 2cents.
