Okay, This is a long shot. How can an amateur strip the paint off the stock wheels? Is the finish under the paint smooth? I really like the polished look but from what I've heard that's about $600.

Would a very high pressure washer with a narrow tip work at all without damage to the wheel?

Try aircraft stripper. I did a set of stock aluminum Pontiac wheels and polished the front face. The surface underneath depends on the wheels. The set I did had a machine finish. I had to sand them and then polish. I used 600 grit and worked finer from there. It is a lot of work but if you're patient it can look really nice. The cost of having them done also depends on how detailed the wheel is.

Yeah aircraft paint remover is some strong stuff, make sure it doesn't touch your skin because it burns like hell.

Man they look good. I probably won't do anything until the fall. I do appreciate all of the comments, especially about the aircraft paint stripper. Sounds like some potent stuff, how do you dispose of it? Burn it?

Thanks to all
