View Full Version : Idea for a new sticky...

Here's an idea:
I would like to see a sticky thread that tracks wheel brand/style/size/offset and tire size combos for front/rear and if they will fit with/without rubbing (including strut rub!), if rolling/cutting is required, and if the combo will work for lowered/raised vehicles. We should also keep track of vehicle year.
I'm thinking some sort of a table format that is easy to look up.
There's a ton of great information in this forum, but honestly it's hard to piece it all together in a concise view sometimes. I know I'm trying to figure out combos that will work for me, but sometimes people forget to post offsets, or tire sizes. Plus wading through all of the thread is a bit tedious.
What do you guys/gals out there think?
I might even be talked into tracking the data (I could put together a web form of some kind to gather the info).
Thoughts?

This has been suggested before. Everyone seems to refer to this thread for answers...

Yep...that's a great thread for looking at wheels (I drool every time I read through that thread), but many of the posts don't tell me if it required rolling, or what brand/size of tires worked.
I'd really like to know for sure what works and what does not all in one spot.

I do think a sticky, as you're suggesting, would contain some great information...all in one spot.

I agree!
Not to point out the obvious, but if you don't make said thread, they can't sticky it.
Start compiling the info (even if you don't have all of the details). The people who do have the details can reply to your post to update what's missing.
Get it rolling good enough, and I am sure a mod will sticky it.

I tried this about a year ago and had a decent list started but just couldn't get enough people to reply to keep the list growing. sadly the thread faded away into the lost area of the site. i'll see if i can locate the thread so that you can save some time in gathering a little bit of info. I would be very happy if it actually survived this time and got made into a sticky.

EDIT: Ok, here is the thread i started. Thought I had made it a multiple wheel thread but apparently it was just for stock 17" rims.

Dan, it is a good idea, but you haven't listed all the variables that need to be accounted for.
I would consider the following to be a partial though reasonably complete list:
LF ride height
LF camber
LF caster
LF offset
LF tire make/model/size
LF tire section width
LF tire vertical height
LF inflation pressure
fender lip clearance
LF camber plate in use?
Repeat for the other three corners. On the rear fenders - how far was the fender lip rolled or cut? On the fronts, how far out past the sheetmetal does the tread extend with the steering pointing straight ahead.
That will be a pretty wide spread sheet in eXcel. If you want to carry that stone I can give you my numbers...
EDIT: spring rate, sway bar settings and driving style will also need to be accounted for. A good sized tire that rubs occasionally while I am driving might never rub when my mom borrows the car...

OK...let me see what I can do on this. I'll post back to this thread when I get something going.
Be patient...I'm a busy guy.

The wheel database idea has been floated before. I've been trying to post a link to thread #54771, but I don't have permission? (I am logged in, also saw a "server too busy" message) Anyways, just search the wheels/tires forum for "wheel database"...some good info in there. I hope you can get this rolling again. I'd really like to see some weights on Ruff Racing & AZA wheels!
