View Full Version : How did you get MT Drag Radials to fit?

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to see how everyone that is using 275/45 MT Drag Radials on the stock 17" rim got them to fit?

I used the stock 17" rim, stock springs, with drag bags at 22 psi. The result was the tire had plenty of clearance(~3" to the lip of the wheel well).

The reason why I am asking is for a couple of reasons.

1. The drag bags with 22+ PSI don't let the car squat enough for weight transfer.

2. When going down the qtr the car seemed to wonder in the rear, I guess it is because of the soft side wall and mounted on an 8" rim.

So, I guess my solution is some pedders drag springs and cutting the lip and finding a 9" rim, but I wanted to hear what others setups are with MT Drag Radials.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

I know others have run them on the stock rim. You just posted this at the slow time of day, this evening more people will be on to answer. I am curious as well, because I wanted to jump up to the M/T's on the stock 17". I know a lot of guys on here have run them and none have mentioned any issues.

I run them on my stock 17's and have had no issues, they fit perfect. I run about 15psi in my drag bags. My fenders are also rolled, not sure if they needed to be rolled for the MT's to fit because I already had them rolled for my aftermarket wheel/tire setup.

Instead of looking for new rims try doing what svede and I think smitty did. They sent their rims to a place called weldcraft and had them widened by 1 inch. They charge 175 a rim for this work. When I have the extra cash I too am going to be sending them my extra rims so that I can mount my m/t drag radials with out worrying about the sidewalls.

I ran 2 sets of 275/40 BFG DR's, and 2 sets of 275/40 MT DR's on the stock wheels and never had any unstable feeling on the track. That is with over 200 passes running them from 12-20 psi. As for the drag bags, I don't use them, just grind the fenders, and they clear fine.

Well, we just measured to be sure and it looks like we have 12" from the wheelwell to the outer edge of the quarter with almost an inch of lip.

The tires measures 11" on the current rim 8" rim.

So some of you run this combo:

Cut fenders, NO drag bags/pressure(<=15psi) and have stock springs or pedders drag springs?

Anyone run it on the street?

Appreciate the responses!!

I'm gonna cut my fenders before i throw them on...just makes me a little nervous

I am going to cut the lip down to 1/4" or so and let the pressure out of the bags. I am also at the same time going to try some new shocks(weight transfer) unless someone can convince me springs are a better solution.

235/60-15 on a 15x7 wheel. They will easily work for up to 450rwhp
