Took my 04 to get new tires put on it this morning. Didn't have time to stick around and supervise, live in a small town so they don't care if your in the shop. Well low and behold when i pick it up this afternoon they managed to scratch every rim!!! AAAHHHH!!! The F'd up part is before I got the tires I was debating a wheel change and decided not to because the stockers are still in great shape. So needless to say the company is going to fix the problem, just need to get some input on what and how. Recoat, Chrome, or what is the best option for me? The worst part about this is that since this is a small town I know the owner pretty well and don't want to stick it to him, but want what I deserve. :The_Villa

That sucks man, luckily mine has a perfect circlular scratch around every rim, (yeah its that bad) so they can't use the curb rash story.

Happened to me a few years back when I had my Z28. The Shell station gouched every rim in 5 places, across from the lugs. They denied doing it and told me to "do what I had to do" to get the money out of them. No lawyer would take my case (no evidence), I finally paid to get them fixed myself. They were Fiske rims, I had the outer rims halves replaced on every wheel, $800 plus shipping.
Edit: By the way I knew the owner of the Shell station really well, we graduated in the same class, but that didn't help.
I have a got in a habit of taking pics of whatever is getting worked on. Haven't had a problem yet!

Yep, been there twice recently.
Last December took 2 of my 17" OEM wheels to Belle Tire to get some Dunlop winter rubber on them. One of them was fine afterwards, the other the kid screwed it up when he used a grinder on the inside of the wheel (the part you don't see) to clean up the wheel to allow the bead to set. Took some fighting with Belle Tire, but got a new wheel with a new tire delivered to my door.
Happened again 2 weeks ago at the Pontiac dealer with the 18" OEM wheel at the local Pontiac dealer. I went into the dealer because there was a screw in the tire and they fix for free. I cautioned 3 people at the dealership that just a few months back, I had a bad experience with Belle Tire scratching a wheel and they assured me that they would be careful, etc. and not scratch it. Went to Tractor Supply to pick up a few things, came back and lo and behold, a scratch and ding on my wheel. Needless to say I was not happy.
Got a new wheel out of that one, dealer gave me $30 to get it mounted whereever I wanted. I called a different Belle Tire then the one that scratched my 17" wheel (this Belle Tire is the one that resolved the 17" wheel issue for me), and they recommended going to yet a 3rd Belle Tire that was 25 miles away that uses a Corghi wheel mounting machine.
This machine doesn't run anything around the lip to mount, and holds the wheel via the hub, rather than the arms that come in on the inside of wheel. So, no way to damage the face or the inside surface. Worked great (flawless, no scratches, no nothing), costs a little more ($30 per tire to mount/balance), but to me worth it. My suggestion is that anyone getting tires mounted/balanced search for a place that uses this machine and trained techs to use it to assure no scratches.
When I get my OEM 18" wheels widened and 275/35/18 BFG KDW NT mounted on them that is where I am going to ensure success.
And oh, yeah, he'll get me the tires/mount/balance on my widened 18" wheels for $488 out the door - so that is even a great price and no worries about mounting issues.

I just had that happen to me at the local NTB. I took in my new, still in the plastic and box, TSW Thruxtons to have the tires mated up. When I got back, they had proceeded to screw up 3 of the 4 brand new wheels. The manager did not want to do anything about it. But, he really did not ahve a choice. They were brand new when I came in. Him and I both opened them up and looked them over. Nothing on them when I left. So, needless to say, they had to order me 3 new ones. I won't get them now until probably Monday. But, I told the manager that I want to be there when they mount the new ones. I want no marks on these ones.
