Well, I took my new TSW Thruxtons and tires to the local NTB to get them "mated". Boy dido they f*** them up. They were still in the box wrapped in the plastic. I went over everything with the manager and stated how I was afraid that they would be damaged during the installation. He guaranteed me that they would be just fine. Well, guess what, when I went to pick them up, I saw that they beat the hell out of 3 of them. I don't know what kind of yahoo they had working them. He sure did a job on them. The manager did not want to do anything about it. He started to argue with me. I reminded him that I went over with him in detail how I did not want any marks on them. Then he only wanted to pay for one. I said that was not good enough. It took me a while, but I got him to say that all 3 were damaged by his guy. But, now I have to wait until next week to get them put on. I did tell him that I wanted to be there when they mounted the tires to the new rims. He did not like that. But, he really did not have a choice. I told him that I was not going to put something damaged like that on my new Goat.
It just kind of sucks that some one would do that to something brand new and not give a **** about it. If you would damage one of them, why would not stop and say that you could not do it and for someone else to do it. But no, he went ahead and screwed up 2 more.

That sucks! I'm always leery of tire places for that reason, and when I do have to take them there I do the same as you--remind the manager that I do not want them scratched up. At least you got him to agree and replace them.

so, a shop beats up 3 out of 4 of your BRAND NEW wheels, and you're gonna let them try again?

I did not take any pics. I was too upset to even think about it. I might not have a choice in letting them do it. They still have my tires. But, I am going to be there when they do it again. I already told the manager that I want to be there and watch. I told him that they are going on a GTO with only 500 miles on it and they have to be perfect. They were perfect when I brought them in. Heck, they were still in the plastic.

Well for next time, (not even for posting here) get before/after pics for documentation. I have a feeling something else is going to happen to the new set of wheels, and you will be screwed.

I had my AZA's mounted at Discount Tire and reminded them repeatedly I dont want any dents/scratches in the chrome lip since another member here has had that problem with all 4 AZA Z-1's
The guy calls after mounting one wheel and wants me to look at it before he continues. He points out a tiny ding in the chrome lip that even I cant see. I tell him thats fine and continue. He was able to adjust the mounting machine and get the 3 remaining tires mounted perfect w/ no damage.
Just thought I'd post that some shops are careful and I like that they called me before mounting the remaining tires. I wouldnt accept anything less than the shop buying new wheels for me if they damaged them.

Jim, I am hoping that nothing else happens. I have already contacted NTB corporate on the matter. I was gauranteed by them, with a call back from a district manager, that I would be taken care of with wheels that will be perfect. He told me that there was no reason for them to damage them. I am calling there this morning. I will give more details when I get them.

Well, here is an update on my wheels. I still hve not got them as of yet. I went to the NTB today and argues with them becasue they had not arrived. They had dismounted one of the tires from a damaged rim an it was sitting there. That pissed me off. Now I do not know if maybe they might have damaged the tired on purpose due to my complaining. But, from dismounting the tire, they destroyed the rim. There is not a clean spot on the entire edge. They really suck at doing tires. Just to tell everyone in the Pittsburgh are, it is the NTB in Monaca. I hope someone reads this that knows someone there. Well, I then called the Corporate office again to complain more. If and when the new wheels come in, I am going to take them and have them installed elsewhere. I do not want them getting anywhere nearthe new wheels. But, I am still worried about the one tire that was dismounted. I do not trust them. I found another local tire shop that just spent $20,000 on a new tire machine for custom wheels. The manager guaranteed me that they could do it. That is where I am going next.

if possible tell them to put the tires on with the face of the wheel in the grips of the tire machine....i have 19x9.5 aza z-1's with a huge polished lip and the machine did not hurt the lip at all..(my friend and i mounted mine on his machine)...he can even throw rags on the claws just to be safe....people who dont care about shit because its not theres make me sick...if he scratches another rim..i would literally beat him to a pulp....bring a bottle of jack and a baseball bat...if he scratches a rim...take a big swig and pick up the bat :-) hahha....good luck man

You actually can't mount all tires on the rims in a reverse fashion. Some wheels have a lip that is larger on the back and it will tear up the tire. Some wheels however can only have tires mounted on them with the face in the claws. It just depends on the rim. If you go to a store that can mount RUNFLATS then you will have no problem with getting rims messed up. They usually use touchless machines and they leave no trace of the mounting process. I used to work for Firestone and we had a touchless machine and on very expensive rims, the claws and the duck bill that mounts the tire, were all changed to plastic so that there was no way to damage a wheel.

Well, I finally got the replacement wheels from NTB. I took them out of there and ran as fast as I could from that place. They were not going to touch them again. I had them mounted at another local tire shop that had the machine for mounting custom wheels. It was the machine that mounts the tires on with the wheel upside down. I just finished putting them on the car this morning. They look great. It took over a week to get it completed but it was worth it.
