I am getting ready to buy tires for the stock 18s I bought for my '04 and I have a guy that swears up and down that you can fit 245/40/18s in front and back with no problem. He says that he has put them on multiple GTOs with the stock 18s and no one has had a problem with rubbing. I have heard from others than anything bigger than a 235/40/18 on the front will rub, but I am wondering if that is because they are using aftermarket 18 inch wheels. Any one has experiences they'd like to share? I am getting the tires on Thursday, so if anyone has had experience (good or bad) with 245s or bigger on stock 18s please let me know!!! Thanks for your help guys!!!:D

I have both 235/40/18 AND 245/40/18 and neither rub. It also depends on the tire. Some tires are slightly taller than others even though they are the same tire size. I noticed my Toyo's (245/40/18) raise the car slightly.

I am running 245's all the way around with my 18's. But, I am sure my offset is differant than the stock 18's. Mine are MC2 wheels that are made only for the GTO, and only offered for 2004.

Here is a pic of them installed and the wheel turned to show front strut clearance.

Just so you know. That rusty rub mark is from the stock wheels. I have them on for winter storage, and they rubbed.

i have stock 18's (from the hsv gto, but same as stock us wheels) with 245/40/18 toyos all around. no rubbing at all. its all going to depend on the brand of tire, some will rub, some wont.

They do run a little larger in the 245/40/18 size than other tires in that same size... no personal experience with them.

I was just wondering the same thing. What about just running the 235 out front and the 245 out back?

Thanks for the info guys!!! I am going with the Potenza RE750's and I believe those are similar to the Toyo's as far as the height of the tire. It does seem to me that the BFGs do run a bit larger for some reason. My mom has the RE960s on her G35 and the tire wall on those looks pretty "slim". Well, the guy is a friend of mine and says that if I have any rubbing issues to bring them back and he'll replace them with a set of 235s, but hopefully that won't happen.

Im a little nervous about my Nexen 245/40-18s fitting in the front of mine. If they dont fit, would getting some spacers have any bad effects on the car? Or would it be a much better choice to grab some 235s?

I think that may depend on what 18s you have. If they are the stock ones from GM, it sounds like you probably won't have a problem. It seems like most of the problems with spacing comes in when you buy aftermarket 18s.

yeah they are just factory 18s...I just really hope these Nexens dont run big.
