I tried to burnout today for the first time and got the sh*^ scared out of me. The wheel hop was terrible plus I though the rear end dropped out of the car. While the wheels were hopping it sounded like someone was whacking the rear floor of the car with a mallet. I purchased this car to have fun and now I am afraid even to spin the tires a little.

ouch!! I just had hernia surgery and I think I burst my stiches I laughed so hard. Sorry dude, but I think that is common to all GTO's.

This happens everytime in my car too. It also happened to me in my two previous cars 99 Corvette and 01 Z06 Corvette. It took a while for me to learn how not to do that in the Vettes, and I am sure that it will take me a while to avoid it in the GTO. However, the problem never goes completely away.

I really thought that Ford was making a mistake by leaving a solid rear axle in the 2005 Mustang......but all this talk about wheel hop kind of makes me appreciate solid axles quite a bit more.

Just use your head when doing a burnout!
IF you want to accelerate fastest, then DON'T spin the tires.
IF you want to put on a show and burn the tires, then rev it up to like 5,000 rpm and dump the clutch----That should eliminate the Hopping.

Otherwise let the Traction control do its job.

FYI just because the gas is floored and the tires are smoking DOESN'T mean that you are acellerating fast. A Ford Escort can launch harder than a GTO roasting its hides to death.

You have to pick between moving, or putting on a show. :)
