Would the stock rear (a4 by the way) be ok say with some bfg or nitto dr's? Supposing I was at 400 rwhp and had say a 3200 stall? Would I really have a good chance on breaking something on a good launch and hook?

It should hold. Lots of people are making more power then that and cutting 1.6xx or better 60' with no problems. Now wheel hop, thats another story.

Should this reduce my wheelhop?

Are you speaking from what you know? Or what you may have heard, because 400 rwhp doesn't seem like a breaking point to me. anyone else?

I've read of plenty of people putting more stress on than that with no issues, but as mentioned, wheel hop can cause some problems. If you are already getting sticky tires, that will help, but drag bags are definitely worth the $100 to further remedy the hop. If you want a more complete fix for the hop, look at some of the options from Pedders.

Auto's don't transfer as much shock to the rear as a manual. You'll be fine. Get drag bags. They help if you have wheel hop.

+1 Wheel hop will break things so once you've got that taken care of you'll be fine.

Alright then I guess I will be ordering drag bags next week lol. Any recomended psi in these things?

You kind of have to find your own combination, but, around 7 psi for daily driving (must have a minimum of 5 psi in) helps it behave nearly stock. Somewhere around 18 psi is usually good for the track, but, like I said, make a few passes with some different levels and see what works best for you!

I run 22 in the bags and M/T's on stock 17's. Works great and tires don't rub.
Don't waste your money on nittos or bfgs.

You apperently have NO idea what you are talking about.

With 400RWHP you will be fine. The only thing I would worry about is wheel hop. Other than that guys are going 10's with the stock trans and rear end with the autos.

I wouldn't go that far with an auto he is surely abusing the rear end less. That doesn't mean that he isn't putting added stress on the car. I would say if the car is fairly new he's alright, but if were talking about a "DRIVEN" car with 30,000 ish on it I would say don't do it until you upgrade. I have seen to many people at the track with almost stock cars and DR's, and I have seen them cry when in a few passes BOOM.
just my opinion.
If your spinning Your not braking.

I still run stock rear, axles, suspension and have no problems so far.
