Do P275/40 ZR17 98W fit our stock wheels?
I am going to purhcase a set of 4 555RII's for the summer.
I have also heard these tires are fairly decent in the rain.

Excuse my moment of weakness, the search button says that they will fit.
;)
So......
They'll be fine in back but I doubt you can run those up front.
And yes, they are pretty good in the rain.

I thought you could fit wider up front?
Is there any issue with running the NITTO's in the rear and stock tires up front?
As far as handling and ride comfort?

The RII's wold be ok up front since they are designed more for road racing with a stiff sidewall. I wold not run a 555R up front because they have a soft sidewall and would make your car handle like shit.
It is perfectly fine to run nitto's in the rear and stock tires up front. Most people tend to put the 555R's on the rear though because they are designed for traction from a launch where the RII's are designed for traction on the turns.

You know that the 555RIIs are the road race version of the 555r drags. The 555RIIs will not healp at the drag strip. The sidewall is to stiff!!!!

As far as handling and ride comfort? The Nittos do run narrower than most so maybe they wouldn't rub up front. I'm probably going to run stock size up front and the 275 DR's in back.
Would running the II's up front and the DR's in back pose a problem?

This is not true. I have a buddy that runs the 315/35/17's Drag Radials all around his Formula when he road races. They don't last that long but since they don't make II's in 315s yet, that's what he uses. He's never had a problem running them.

I am going to run II's because of the speeds I go up to, I need the tough sidewall.
And yes the II's would help with traction and result in a better launch, they still have a large contact patch and are stickier than normal tires.
Only thing I am really trying to get at is whether the ride comfort/handling is affected by running stock up front and II's in the rear.

What I was saying is that they will not give you the ultimate grip of the drag version. Anything will be better then the stock tires. I have the 555Rs in the rear and the stockers up front and it seems to work out fine. When the stockers wear out I will put the 555s in the stock size up front to match the rears!

But isn't the speed rating of the 555R too low to allow for 140+ speeds with highway style driving (ie turning etc...)? Plus I am assuming the 555R wouldn't handle rain too well?
The drag radials are fine in the rain. I ran them for 15K miles on my WS6 and 13K on the TTA without a problem. They are brutal in the snow though :eek2:

This sounds like the best of both worlds, maximum accelleration traction in the rear and maximum cornering traction up front.
I'm leaning towards this setup myself.

I got the Nitto 555R for the rear but kept it at 245/45/17R just for track use. The 275/40 's are intended for a 9" rim and stockers are 8". Lot's of guys do go for the 275's and claim no issues. I take no chances with my life. Drag racing itself is enough of a risk.
Street use are stockers for me.

I will be upgrading to 18"x9.5" in the rear and 18"x8.5" in the front as soon as I find rims that I like. :)

The drag is a V rated which is up to 149mph. For constant highspeed driving where you need good high speed control the 555RIIs are a better choice because of the stiffer sidewall. The tread is the same on both tires!

Discount Tire just told me it is a bad idea to mount 275's on the stock GTO wheels because it would crown in the middle of the tire.
What is a good alternative to the NITTO 555RII's that fit the stock goat wheels?
