View Full Version : 18x8" HP EVO's on a 05'
After thinking about what wheel to go with for the past 2 weeks ,I came up with the HP EVO's after really liking stangman nb's Impulse blue gto with them on there.Even though his pics weren't the best quality :gr_jest:
Mine arn't that great but I'll try to take some bigger ones soon.
I love these wheels and got a GREAT deal on them and to answer any questions anyone might have,They do not rub anywhere front or back.
They are 18x8 Hyper Silver Dark with a 38mm offset with 245/40 Fuzion ZRi tires all the way around.I still think I should get some hub rings but for now there just bolted up with the lug nuts centering them.
I did weigh 1 wheel before putting tires on them and it came up to be about 24 lbs a piece.
I did take a few shots of the front fender and back fender to show the offset a little better.

Looks great. What did it set you back for the set?
Looks like they fit perfect
I paid $650 shipped for the wheels and then bought the tires locally for $600 mounted and balanced so $1250 total for wheels and tire wasn't to bad I thought.

Those fit really well. I wonder if 8.5 or 9" would work in that wheel?

What did you pay for the set? I am getting a refund from MC2 because of the poor quality of there wheels and the bad vibration from them.

I like that wheel car color combo. Looks very classy, like a very expensive car.

The place where I got them from was $675 shipped anywhere in the U.S. for the wheels only.

Did you have to get a hub piece to fit your wheel to make them hub centric?

You should, but I just have mine bolted up until i do.These wheels are just the 5 x 120 for the bmw's.But I will get hub rings when I find out who makes the right size I need.

Where did you order the wheels? Do you think there is enough room for a wider tire, say 265's?

Why do you feel like you need to get the hubrings? How much more could the rim be centered if you tighten the lugs in a star pattern? Are you getting any vibration?
The wheel looks great, BTW!

Love the wheels and can't argue with that price. Is there any vibration at any speed? Also would anybody be worried about going fast with an inexpensive wheel supporting you?
Actually I get some steering wheel vibration at 60 mph.0-59 no vibration and about 63-100 mph no vibration. Only 60 mph I get it.I'm going to rotate the wheels around to see if it goes away but I figured if they are brand new it couldn't be a balancing problem so I thought it would be a hub ring problem.
Who knows though, maybe one wheel isn't balanced because the more I think about it, if the wheel was centered on the hub then it would get worse as far as vibration the faster I go??
Oh yeah, I got the wheels from here:

Those wheels are not hub centric and to make them hub centric they told me you need a plastic hub adaptor. They are a cast wheels not forged and not specificly designed for the GTO that is why you need that plastic adaptor to make it hub centric. This did not sound like a good product to me. You get what you pay for. My friend that is a dealer said he could get them for $120.00 per wheels and he would not recommend them. As far as the vibration go's it will not go away because the wheels are not hub centric and are not made to quility standards. Please do not take offense to my comments they look great. But I had a forged wheels that was bad quility and the vibration would not go away no matter how you balance them "Yes even with the hunter 9700 road force balancing machine" MC2 wheels are very poor quility, also and I would advise everyone to stay away from that product! REMEMBER YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR....

I'm not so sure I'm buying the argument that these wheels could never be balanced, and that a plastic ring is going to bring the wheel closer to true center than properly tightening the lugs to specs. CNC machining is not out of the reach of even small manufacturers. Paying a high price does not necessarily mean a better wheel.

Everyone needs to remember that none of the aftermarket wheels are designed to fit the GTO – they were originally designed for BMWs. Without a hubring of the proper size, the wheel will not be centered on the hub. I am not aware of anyone in the US selling hubrings for the GTO – I suspect this will eventually come to pass as more are sold (selling the car in the UK as a Vauxhall should help). The only wheels that I assume come with the proper centering rings are those from the Australian manufacturers – ROH, Speedy, Simmons – who are used to including Holden applications in their fitments.
I bought a set of OEM BMW wheels, and am having a set of centering rings machined. These should convert the BMW 3-series centerbore of 72.5mm to the GTO’s 69.6mm hub. I suspect the aftermarket wheels being installed by most on this board have centerbores ranging from 72.62-76mm.
I would think the MC2 wheels would have had the correct centerbore, but many people seem to have had problems with them. Most Pontiacs have a 70.3mm hub – this is close to the GTO’s 69.6mm. I wonder if MC2 misread the specs and created a wheel whose hub was close, but not a proper match for the GTO.
While I generally believe that you get what you pay for, you should be able to get an acceptable wheel for ~$150-200. I have never used HP wheels, but I would guess their quality standards are about equal to TSW, König, ASA, ROH and most of the other wheels people are using.
…just my 2˘
Just any update with my 60mph vibration problem.
Its fixed and the hub rings fixed all my vibration problems at 60mph.Its all gone and smooth at 60mph.
I had them made here locally and for anyone that wants to know,HP Evo's wheel bore size is 74.2mm and I had the car's hub size made to 69.56mm.
Just couldn't believe how much better the wheel fits on the hub now, because before you would think the lug nuts centered it pretty good but i guess not.

Well here is my car with the wheels on them. I haven't looked into getting hub rings yet but may consider it. How much did the local place charge you and would you be able to get another set made up?

I'm glad i did the rings, well worth it.I had them done for $60,and asked him when he did mine if he considered making more but he seemed like he wasn't into doing it.
I talked to CSiJason about making me some before but he didn't know if he was going to change the size of the rings he's having made.Maybe try tossing him a PM and see what he says.
And sorry I'm no good with photoshop
