Looks great! Is that the widest base diameter filter that will fit in that space? Looks like about 4 1/2 dia. X 6 1/2 long? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Looks great for getting hot underbonnet air..... Why not try boxing them in and having a 4" hole out through the base, as has been done in australia by a number of people.. Gets the benfit of the pod and NO HOT AIR

Is the cold air enclosure still a go to stop the under hood hot air issue?

This is great work. However everytime I look at this I wonder about having a Ram Air Hood as is predicted to be coming out. Then I would want something like I have seen pics of from a T/A. Will there be another made for the new hoods?

The cold air enclosure is in the works.

I have no problem cutting a hole in the lower inner fender creating a true ram air type settup. HOWEVER, of the 5 GTO's that we have been prototyping/test fitting, none were willing to cut the car....yet. If anyone wants to be the testbed, let me know, there is a free kit in it for you.

When a Ram air hood becomes available, the manufacturer of the hood will likely offer some sort of functional air box along with it. If not, and there is demand, we can look into it.

How hard is it to install for someone that has no clue, because I dont! You are tempting me Tom! Oh, and if the cold air induction is in the works, will it work with this setup? If so, how much more?

Ls1 Speed

10-15 minute install/un-install with basic hand tools. We will have a very nice instruction sheet with pictures included with the kits.

The cold air enclosure we are working on, as well as when we develop the ram air type extension (requires cutting), will both work in conjunction with the High Flow Unit that is being released next week. We will also offer these as "add ons" at a discounted price.

I don't know why people won't cut, as all it is doing is enlarging a hole that is already there..Its being done in Australia for the commodore and monaro and there has never been any adverse effects....

Received mine yesterday, but unfortunately I don't have a car to put it on yet :( . Please excuse my ignorance, I'm definitely an amateur when it comes to cars, but is this the kind of filter that needs to be oiled? I've seen some other threads about oiled air filters and it's not something I've ever messed with before.

Ls1 Speed

The filters are pre-oiled. Re-charge kits are $9.99.

All of the pre-orders were shipped in the order we received them.

When we offer the cold air enclosure and a ram air setup, the system you have now will be fully upgradable if you choose to go that route.

THANKS GUYS!!

Thanks for the info. How often do you recommend re-charging the filter?

speed_demon_freak

I ordered a kit and should get it soon.
My questions is Should we remove the plastic that is right behind the headlight?

I removed the airbox but I still have the plastic part that fits into the airbox installed.

Thanks

Per K&N website:
The general rule of thumb is that the filter needs to be cleaned when the dirt build up gets as thick as the wire mesh. The usual interval is 30,000 - 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions. We recommend that you check your filter about once a year in normal usage.

The black car in the pics, has a HID kit, and it has that part removed. Our system will fit either way.

Where did you get the HID Kit from?

Ls1 Speed

The car had the HID lighting installed before it came here.

This kit will be available for you guys next week, the price is $449.99. We will start a new thread with pics within a day or sooner.

The HID's are sooo cool, after adjusting the headlights up alittle, these things are better than my brights! I love them, they make the car look great, and it really looks good with the projector housing that come stock on these GTO's.

It is almost as if they are meant for them :)

How difficult is it to install them? Do you have to do cutting?

Tom,

If the cut isn't visable from the outside and you are still looking for a test platform, give me a shout. I was thinking of doing that anyway and I'm About 30 minutes west of Sch-burg.

OK not to be a tool or anything but $179 for a $40 filter and a plastic tube? Please explain what all is involved to justify this price? I did a very similar setup on my GTP for under $50.

The design of the tube and the molding equipment is far from cheap. With the limited number of GTO's on the road and a smaller % of people that will modify the car, projected sales on what is essentially a custom part are low. A cost of $139 for the tube is very reasonable. I would like to see the $10 tube you put on your car. You would have to sell a million tubes @ $10 to come close to making that a profitable part. You couldn't do a hack job with HomeDepot plumbing for $10 ($50 - a $40 filter)
