I knew that the 17's were a bit better performance wise, but i had no idea how much slower my car would feel with the 19ers on there. i suppose now that i think about it its like regearing it. maybe i can do wheelies now?

It wouldnt be like regearing it unless you changed the overall diameter of the tire. It is probably the extra unsprung weight you are seeing, Every 1 pound of unsprung weight is like +/-8 pounds of static weight.

its not even the weight so much as it is the location of the weight. these stock wheels are pretty heavy on gtos. but with the smaller wheels, the main mass is centered more toward the hub, (the rim of the wheel closer to the hub and the tread of the tire in its usual location , vs the rim moved outward an inch or so and the treaded sectuib of tire still in the same spot)
making it slightly easier to get it rolling as you move the weight away from the hub, it will get harder and harder to move. to conduct your own experiment, hold a dumbell or something in your hand and rotate it, then hold the same weight (on a stick or something) further away from your hand and try to rotate it and feel the extra strain, this isnt really an exact comparison, but it is pretty close, close enough fory ou to see the difference between when the mass is more centrally located vs when the mass is further outward.
i saw a really killer article on this a year or so back, ill see if maybe i can dig it up somewhere.

More rolling mass ='s more braking power needed. Your car will slow down, and also have elongated stopping distances unless equally improved apon. Thus my Wilwoods and 3.91's.

yes i am jealous of your wilwoods. maybe i can dig through junk yards and find a zo6 with the lingenfelter ones unharmed haha

A good upgrade and added diameter for filling up the wheels.

This is what I am going to upgrade to soon.

FYI, my Wilwoods may be for sale soon.

I swapped to 19's and I can't tell a difference. they are
the same overall diameter and the 19's are a tad lighter.
I put drag radials on the stock wheels when I go to the
track or someone calls me out. there's hardly a single
vehicle on the road that doesn't have 17's or 18's factory.

As long as you overall diameter is the same and the weight is about the same, you really shouldn't notice any difference. If your wheel and tire set- up is heavier, then you will have more rolling mass like Black Devil said.:(

i feel a difference, maybe its the tire? i dunno. i mean i can tell it grabs super hard now, but it feels like its harder to get em around. i think my overall diameter is a lil more though i cant remember how much.

Most aftermarket 19's are going to be lighter than the stock 17's. Especially if you go with some of the more popular ones like TSW.

What's with the infatuation with big wheels these days?? I don't get it. They're, ..., just.. BIG. They don't add anything to the looks IMO, and in many cases look ridiculous and hurt handling properties.
I can see the point of getting lighter wheels, but bigger is not usually better.

I had to go to them due to the huge AP calipers. Didn't think I'd care for the look but they actually look better than the 17 or 18's I had been running. Fill out the wheel well completely. Haven't noticed anything other than a harsher ride due to less sidewall. Handling is better though.......

yeah bigger wheels look a ton better. they look like they are made for the car. stockers usually are too small for the size of the wheel wells. its all opinion on whichever ones, but the less space in the wells the less trucklike. ride height and wheel size really effect looks.

Any idea how much your wheels weigh?
What negatives in performance are you experiencing?

i ve never weighed them aside from just picking the them up. i can tell they are lots lighter than the stockers though. it just feels like when i take off it takes a little bit more push to get going. i m not sure how to explain it.

Im guessing that you got the Koblenz?
I just checked the site, and it says that they have a 38lb shipping weight..

there is no way they weigh that much. the stockers were 29 and i think they seem heavier

Mine with 19" wheels handles better then the stock 17's ...

My 19s with Toyo tires are actually lighter than stock and the car actually picked up at the track with them. When a 2"+ wheel swap makes you faster thats what makes spending the money on a wheel like CCWs worth it to me.
