I damaged a tire so I replaced the rears I had with some 275/35/18 MX's. The car feels a lot better with some more rubber on the road.
I did cut the fender lips down to about 1/4". I dont know how close the rubbing would have been since I trimmed them before I put the tires on.
No rubs yet.

Heres a shot of the 235 MX's on the same wheel. Pretty undersized if you ask me. Should have a 245 minimum.

Are those 275/35-18's? If so, they look pretty good on the rim.

Did you pick them up locally or mailorder?

This is exactly what I have always wanted to do.
What wheels are those? They look very similar to stock but flare out wider.

Yes, 275/35/18's. Tire place whined about it but I asked them to not worry about and mentioned they previously mounted 295/50/16's on an 8" rim for me.

Mail order and I didn't shop around (tirerack).

VZ's from Australia.. mate. :aus_flag:

What size are the front tires? I thought 265 was the widest we could fit on the front because of the proximity of the struts.

LS2 GTO,
Are your 18x8 VZ wheels the same factory 48mm offset?

Sorry, one more question, what are you running size wise tire and wheel in the front?

Sorry for the confusion, I should have explained things better. When I switched to the VZ wheels I went with 235's all the way around. I damaged a tire so I bought 2-275/35/18 Kumho MX's and had them put on the back of the car leaving the pair of 235's up front for now. Next time around I'll go with 245's up front.
VZ wheels are the same specs as the stock GTO 18's.

Looks kind of scary. Have you measured the tread with the tire on the wheel?

well yeah. of course they are going to whine and they are pretty stupid for even doing it. If somethign happens they are SCREWED if you survive and decide to sue them.

About 10" of tread is used. Less than half an inch per side short of the total available tread width (when mounted on a 9" rim).

Thanks for caring. Self preservation :ftw:

Not in person, no. Come to think of it, there was someone who put 275s up front.

I was kidding man...it looks awesome. I just don't think I can get by the safety issues.

Still no probs with the 275 MX's.
I've been pushing them harder and am confident with them. With some decent suspension I'm sure they are fine but with the extra rubber and soft suspension things get ugly sooner.
Couple more pics.

good to hear they are working out for you. I love those tires I had them on my vette and I swear they hooked as good as the nitto DRs I have on my gto now. If you heat them up they get really sticky and they handle turns just as well. I will be putting them on the front and back of my car as soon as these DRs wear out.
