Did you get the back of the wheel where the hub of the wheel sits on the brake powdercoated as well? I do not really know how to describe this area so I circled it and pointed arrows to it on a pic I found.

That is the area I am talking about.

I pretty much powdercoated my rims "myself". Although I didnt do "all" the work I was there for all of it. I work for a metal fabrication company that does everything from laser cutting and robotic brake presses to powdercoating and specialized coatings. Since our blast cabinet wasnt big enough for me to blast them there(we dont do much blasting), I took them to a sandblasting company and had them plastic blasted. After a couple of trips I was somewhat satisfied, I had to finish the lips of the rim. Then we ran the rims through the cleaning line and then I used masking dots to mask off the valve stem holes, lug nut holes and the rear section you mentioned. If you look at it from the factory there is no coating on this section. I was worried that depending on how thick it got coated if it would affect how it fit on the car or if it would throw the offset off. Once it was masked we took the rim and hung the rim with the outer face facing up and used 3 hooks in the center kinda forming a triangle. The only challenge we ran into was trying to get powder down in the low spots(lug holes, etc.) without it building up on the spokes/face. But all in all they turned out pretty good. They may be forsale soon, as Id like to go with 19s.

Just had mine returned from the powder coater yesterday. That area you refer to was powder coated as well. The problem:the coating is too thick and the wheel will not slip over the hub. I'm having that area sanded down today.

Have that area masked off.

My boyds arrived with the inside of the hub bore powdercoated. I had to break out the dremel and grind the bore back down to bare metal to get the wheels to fit on the hubs.

That said, I can't see any purpose to powdercoating the actual back of the wheel where it mates to the hub.

I use to powder coat with a buddy and we never coated areas that were related to mounting the part. We even tested that to see if we were just being anal. We ended up breaking out the sander and taking it off.

I wouldn't get that area coated.

Good luck!
