View Full Version : Pilot® Sport A/S
Is or has anybody used these tires?
They are ranked 400 for tread wear, AA for traction and A for temp.

Good tires, but not real sticky. You'd be breaking free alot with them.

These are what I have wrapped around my RoH rims. I got them for the wear as well. They are nice tires and wear really slow. I have just under 10K miles on them and still have a lot of meat on the tread.

I understand what you are saying. In my case, I commute about 80 miles a day and this will be my daily driver. Yes I want a tire that will handle well, but I'd like to have it on the car for more than just a couple of months.
...this is also the only other tire in the needed size that is rated 400 in treadwear. Most of the others are from 150 to 240.

As far as a good tire for daily driving, yes. They are a little stiffer in the sidewall, so you may get more of a "touring" type of ride quality. Actually, that's about the ride quality of the OEM tires.

Just FYI: If you are only buying for treadwear, and don't necessarily need All-weather capability, there are summer performance tires that wear well (and are significantly cheaper). The UTQG rating is not a be-all system. I've had high rated tires wear out quickly and low rated tires run alot longer than they should. Heck, the KDWS that are stock are rated 400, but most people are wearing out at 15K miles!
For instance, the new Fuzion brand's (a Bridgestone company) ZRi is rated 320, has a very good reputation for good wear, is extremely sticky, and is less than half the price of the Pilot A/S. Another example is the Kumho MX's, I ran them for almost 20K miles and still have 4/32nd's on them when I traded and they are rated 220.
Don't get me wrong, the Pilot A/S is an excellent tire, I had them on my 04 CompG and my 04 CTS, but I was limited for something allseason and 19". But for the money they drag out of your pocket ($223 at tirerack.com) there are alot of better choices. For $223 each you can buy TWO sets of most of the other performance tires and get better true performance.
Excellent info...thanks guys

I'll second the decision to look at the Fuzion ZRi. We sell them at my shop. Good tire, good price, good reviews. I can't really comment on the Kumhos. I have tried the Ecsta V700s, but they were autocross tires, not daily driver tires.
How about...

Not sure on wear or ride quality. Look like they would be good for handling.

That's what I am running right now, but have not owned them before and cannot comment on treadwear. But again, there are known good tires that are probably just as good as T1-S's and cheaper.

I have had good luck with Nitto 555 lasting awhile on the highway, they have a pretty good 300 treadwear rating. Then again, I was running a 180 compound tire for awhile and eating through those very quickly.

I have the Pilot Sport A/S's and love them. great wet/dry traction and I went up to 18's so the ride is a little stiffer than stock.
