are the factory wheels painted or powdercoated?

when I try to polish my wheels the rag turns black so i would guess this means they are painted.

I couldn't say for sure, but judging from the way mine got scratched putting new tires on I'd say painted.

they are annodized. When the dealer scratched mine, they had to send it to an old car restorer to have it re-annodized.

The visible finish seems to be conventional paint and easily scratched. There could be anodize under the paint (as many aluminum components are anodized to improve their corrosion resistance). BTW, proper restoration of anodized finishes usually requires complete removal of the previous anodize - at least when done to aerospace standards.
