I had this idea of having a local muffler shop basically build me a cat-back. Having two pipes go to two Flowmaster mufflers, then dumpted right after. What do you guys think something like this would cost me? If you are asking yourselves why, I always loved the was my 5.0 sounded with this set-up, and it would also be easy to change back for inspection pourposes here in TX. Do you guys think this would achieve that sound I am looking for?

Depending on the shop, if you bring in your own dumps it should be about $10.00 a weld and then what ever materials they need to use....

I simply can't believe you guys are even considering ruining such a great riding and driving car by putting dumps on it. I have them on my 93 and it's deafening. I can't even stand to drive the damn thing to the end of the driveway. Unfortunately I need them to clear the rear swaybar so I'm stuck with them. I wouldn't even consider them on my GTO, not even for a second.

I guess everybody has their own idea of what to do to their car……
I for one wouldn’t do it but I think it’s a cool idea. Can’t condemn someone for wanting to do something different.

i don't see why it would be bad. with the right mufflers it should sound nice and then a new rear bumper can be put on without exhaust cutouts and make the car look real clean. thats my plan.

I don't think it would be bad, if anything it would be bad a$$... Everyone has an opinion and you get alot of different answers. Do what you like, its your car, just cause one person dosn't like it dosn't mean you shouldn't do it. Thats what hotrodding is all about.....

Hey you asked for opinions. I have flowmasters and dumps on my Mustang and it's incredibly loud. Were it not for the swaybar, I would put tailpipes back on it immediately.
So there you go, I have exactly the same exhaust setup as you're fantasizing about, and I regret setting it up like that. I know it isn't the answer you were hoping for, but it's the truth.

I have a custom 3 inch cat back with race bullits DUMPED. It's not loud at all untill you hit WOT..
Here are a couple pics, you can see we fabbed the tail pipes back to give it the stock look ;)
Edit*** it's not 1/2 as loud as my Mustang with flowmasters and dumps was

I don't think it can be any louder than cars running longtubes and the SLP Loudmouth.

Really? I'd be willing to bet my car's exhaust went up at least 15 decibels when I cut the pipes off. Mind you that I didn't change the mufflers.

Hey Plano guys, I've seen I think 2 gto's in Plano.. A black one at the gas station and a silver one driving around.. Is that either one of you guys? Anyway, I've had some exhaust work done at Pronto and they did a really nice job. I don't know about AAA. Nick's muffler also does a good job, however, not the cheapest place to go.. As far as the mufflers with dumps, I don't think it'll be that bad. I've got no mufflers at all and its pretty loud but mufflers really tone these cars down. If you get it done let me know, because I would definitely like to hear it.. Flowmasters sound badass on mustangs and trucks. I had one on my Firebird way back and it sounded good just not as loud as I was hoping for at the time. Try it out, you can always change it.. That's the cool part about these cars, its something new, so you never know until you just do it..

I have not heard a Loudmouth as of yet (or not known I have), but I used to have 2 chamber dumped Flows on my blown 5.0. It was loud, but I liked it. I also had longtubes and an off-road pipe. Since I'll still be running the cats for some time, I was wondering if anybody had done a set of dumps on the car. I figured with the cats it would not be as loud as a cat-less car.

Hey Phoenix, If you want to hear what mine sounds like with no resonators or mufflers, drop me a line. I live and work in Plano off Legacy.

Do you ever go to the Sonic GTG?

The setback to dumps is the loss in backpressure. Less backpressure, less torque and to an extend you can get a little more horsepower. If your driving on the street you'll more than likely want the torque, you'll be using it more than the hp anyway.

Which Sonic GTG are you talking about?

I thought that as well but my dyno numbers don't say that. 306/326 that was with out a H cross over pipe. I have since add the H part picked up more lowend and mid ranged tq. on the sop dyno. I'll re dyno soon to see what a difference it mad.
this was on a stock M6 with 500 miles

i just finished my exhaust which is stock no resonators with a pair of spin tech pro streets and no tails of yet so the exhaust just exits right out of the back of the mufflers and it sounds great mellow at highway speeds, LOUD at w.o.t., mild resonance but trust me you wnat to put turn downs on the car it is a huge echo chamber underneath. my other car(2nd gen camaro 10'' wide street tire car) has 4 inch an x pipe and two magnaflow race bullets and turn downs and that is liveable due to it being a race car but for an everyday car id reccomend getting some louder mufflers and putting your tail pipes back on.
