Hopefully this is not a repost. There is a new set of rims listed for the GTO on Tire Rack's site. A bit pricey, though.

It is when you compare that to the cost of having 2 piece custom wheels made is vitrualy the same price. Hell, three piece are only about a hundred more each.

Those are nice wheels none the less... Weld makes good light weight wheels and they are forged which is a plus. I'm not a big fan of the super polished finish though.

Wouldja look at that. Daddy Warbucks uses AOL.

IMO, $580 per wheel is expensive.

I don't consider myself poverty-stricken, but I couldn't afford that.

Only if you want to.

I'm simply stating that there are far less expensive alternatives. And, as with anything else, in two years, parts will be far less expensive.

So I own my ZO6 and GTO outright. So what?? So what if I'm putting $950.00 a piece wheels on my GTO? Why do you have to imply that it's a bad thing to have the funds to do a car right? I could spend less and I would end up with your car. Would that be so bad? For me it would be. I wouldn't make fun of you if I thought your car looked bad. Jealousy is an ugly thing. You should get counseling for it. I didn't start any thread saying the GTO is a POS. You simply did what children do best. You read into it what you wanted. I aknowledged that I could have worded that post better. It's really sad when someone can say that the price of a wheel isn't all that much and a bunch of crybabies have to attack over it. If you can't afford a $580.00 wheel then don't attack those who can. :banghead:

Well I am glad to see the well heeled guys have banded together in this forum. I am happy for you people and your fat bank accounts. May the folks here who have so much money go crazy shopping together. I hope you and your spouses find eternal bliss in Prada and Nieman Marcus. I heard the Hope diamond is for sale. May I suggest the Buckingham palace as your summer cottage. How much do private islands go for nowadays? May I see a picture of your Lear Corporate jet?

It is also convenient to backtrack and renege on what you say. That is the beauty of the quote feature. It captures the very essence of what you said, not what you think you said, or what you really wanted to say, or what you think you should have said. I did not upload these words. You did. If you were smart enough to type what you wrote about the goat's "lack of a power outlet", at least be a man and own up to what you said.

Now if you super serious dudes at least laugh at yourselves once in a while and don't take yourselves so seriously, then admit to the forum you made a mistake and let's all laugh about it and forget it, we would respect and like you more. Instead, you flaunt your finances and exert strong arm tactics. Way to go. You rich dudes who could blow $580 bucks on rims like you were buying a Lifesaver candy have only succeeded to alienate yourselves.

I'm laughing at you right now. The fact that you don't have money to buy wheels is obvious. KMC has a nice set of 16's. They would probably go nicely on your car. You couldn't help yourself trying put those people down who are way more well off than yourself. It's a psychological problem that you seem to have. Go back and re read, if you can, all of my responses on that one thread you seem to be obsessed with. If you can figure out how to go back, you will see that I said I never called the car a POS. I also said the interior of the car was probably its best feature. If you are so in love with the car, that someone mentioning that $580.00 is not expensive for wheels, makes you mad and causes you to attack someone, then you really do have issues. I think everyone on this board now knows that you cannot afford nice wheels for your car. Keep the stock ones. They look ok.

Once again DG, you are way out of line. Maybe you don't see it that way, as even basic manners seem to be an imposition for you. No doubt, you are occasionaly funny; but more often then not your perpetual irreverance is little more than a disruption. You de-rail more threads than Amtrak does trains. Your obsessive need for attention, which manifests itself in your non-stop *Class Clown* act, does little to enhance my forum experience. A little humor is great, but when it results in an unending series of threadjackings, I think some moderation of that behavior is appropriate.

Why do you feel the need to bag on jak, simply because he has more means than you? WTF does a long lost thread about power outlets have to do with him commenting, other than you trying to undermine another members credibility. And to what end? We have people here with widely varying financial situations, and all should be equally welcome. What a person is or isn't willing to spend on a set of rims is a personal decision, more than it is any indicator of wealth. Easy credit make those wheels affordable to virtually anyone. IMO, the only question that is germane to this discussion (with regard to price), is whether the wheels are fair value vs. their cost. From my read, jak was not trying to laud his wealth here (although, I'm dissapointed to see his last post moving that direction...). Really DG, envy (in whatever form) is never pretty to observe.

Can we please end this train wreck here?

As for the wheels, the quality of Weld Wheels has always been good in my experiece, but this style is too much *bling* for me. YMMV.

whoa whoa.......first off.....

We (UpperClass) do not just go out and spend $580 on some rims...Most of us including my family came up from Middle/Working class so we have alot of morales 1 of which is dont blow money on shit u really dont need...I would appreciate it if u would retract that statement....

2ndly $580 For a "SET" of Wheels is a Deal in my opinion most of the wheels that ive bought before were in the 900-1500 area...

3rd and Finnally.....JAK whats the 1st rule if u have money? dont talk about it u jackass....even tho im 19 and a lil immature i dont come on here flaunting my shits...so id advise u not to as well.

With that said i think this whole damn post shoul be deleted.

Moving in that direction? I'm not taking sides here, but I saw his posts going in that direction long ago.

There are rims that are $100 a piece and rims that are $5000 a piece. $580 is not an exhorbant amount nor is it a minor hit to the wallet. But comparitively to what others (on this board) are fitting on their cars (a lot of which look damn good), it is a bit pricey, regardless of financial status.

Could I buy $580 wheels, probably. Would I buy these wheels for $580 a piece, probably not.

why bash a person for buying wheels no matter how much the price? some people buy cars for appreance and some for performance, putting 580 into your motor wouldnt be bad, right? soo, if he's into the appreance thing, nothing wrong with spending the money!!!!

For me, the price of the wheels should be somewhat related to the value of the car they are mounted on. It is sorta like someone that over-improves a home with pricey upgrades; sometimes you really are better off just buying a more expensive house, rather than dumping a bunch of money in to a cheaper one. Obviously, this can (and frequently does) happen with both cars and houses, but an objective person might say it makes little financial sense.

Point is: There is no *right answer*; only what works for you.

Although, Jeff Foxworthy's observation on wheel cost remains true...

"You know you might be a redneck... When the wheels on your truck cost more than the truck." :gr_jest:

Just wanted to mention, those seem to be nice wheels, not quite my style though.

It's interesting to see an 8.5" width wheel listed again up there because at one point they had another (AT Italia Inox) but they removed it. I wonder what the offset on this particular wheel is?

Wish I could find a wheel that really moved me for the GTO. If they were right to me then 580 bucks would be ok. The only wheel that really got me on my other car was some Racing Hart CP8R's. Awesome looks and 17" @ 12.5 pounds each. Took 2 months to find those and was the last set anywhere in US, Canada and Mexico. I pray to never bend one of them. :hail:

Now, we need wheel options for the GTO and thanks for posting these. These may not be for you but they could do it for someone else.

I just had to add my two cents here.

Isn't the question of value made up of two things? Price and what you get? If I paid $1 for a magic marker, and you paid $5 for the same magic marker, than $5 was too much to pay, right. But if I paid $1 for a magic marker, and you paid $5 for a substantially better, long lasting, better color magic marker, than maybe you didn't pay too much.

I think the point here is while $580 isn't some major amount to pay for a wheel in price-only context (some wheels indeed go for thousands each), $580 is alot to pay for a one-piece wheel, forged or not. When you compare that wheel and it's features to other wheels in the $580 price range, it doesn't have alot to offer. If it were priced around $350-$400, it would be more value-matched. So I indeed say "Ouch" to the price, but based on the fact it's expensive for what you get.

nutiger
02-24-2005, 01:49 PM
djdub,

I apologize for the remark on the amount of the wheels. Forgeline, Simmons, Colorado Customs, Billet Spec. make awesome wheels but shelling out $500+ for wheel on a daily driver like mine is a waste. They are very nice looking wheels though and if you like them, go for it.
