Looking at all 4 corners, its a balancing act between strut rub in the front and fender rub in the back. Without suspension work, I think you're looking at 18x8.5 wheels with 40mm offset. 245/40/18 is safe and 255/35/18 is possible. That puts the inside of the wheel no closer to the strut in the front. You'd most likely need to roll or grind the fender lips in the back.

Still a work in progress, but here are some ideas:

on the front you're going to be limited because of strut rub but in the back i have 17"x9" with 275 Nittos and no rub. i did roll my fenders but i don't think i needed to. there's about 3/4" clearance on the inside so i think i could have gone a little wider

bnb550, I'm confused too. You're looking for a non-staggered setup, right? All 4 corners with the same wheel/tire combo? That's what my reply was based on, but if you're considering staggered, then take a look at what these other guys have done.

Sorry. I was considering 265/40-17 on 17x9 +42 all around, but I decided to go with a staggered fitment instead. Clearance to the rear fender lip will be an issue with almost any wider tire & wheel combination. This will require fender rolling, especially if you want to lower. In the front, clearance to the strut will be an issue, requiring work-arounds such as different wheel offset, wheel spacers, slotting the strut bracket holes, and/or offset strut mount top bushings. If you want to lower the front, the fender lip also becomes an obstacle, requiring compromise on tire section width. Doing a rotatable all-around fitment is a juggling act between the different obstacles front & rear...if the wheels don't have to be the same for tire rotation, front offset "wants" to be in the 35-42 range while rear offset "wants" to be in the 52-55 range.
If you're asking what's the widest that will fit without mods, the answer is 245's for sure, maybe 255/40-17 or 255/35-18. I think there was a fairly recent thread about 255/40-17's all around. I did a LOT of research before pulling the trigger on my wheels & tires! This car is a major challenge for tire fitment, very hard to acheive tread width sufficient for a 400hp car with an all around setup.

get the stickiest 245's you can and you'll keep up. ;)
"not enough information given"
1. Are you going to stick with stock ride height, are you willing to go up a teensy little bit, or are you planning to lower the car?
2. How much front camber do you need/want/lust for?
3. Is it legal for tires to stick out past the sheetmetal on cars registered in your state?

2. No clue.
3. Don't know, but whatever setup I decide on would be strictly for autox use, so it doesn't really matter.

That's what I ended up doing for now. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s.

I was just going to post a new thread about this exact topic. I'd like to fit a 17x9 with a 255/40 Toyo RA1. The 235/40-17s on stock 17x8s aren't cutting it.

Pedders no-drop springs with Pedders GSR/Big Bore or Koni dampers
2. How much front camber do you need/want/lust for?
-1.5* to -2*.
3. Is it legal for tires to stick out past the sheetmetal on cars registered in your state?
These would be track-only.

I don't have the exact link, but run a search for my screen name and you should find my posts detailing how I got 275/40ZR17's on all four corners. They are even BFG! No rubbing and no rolling the rear lip.
