another botched play by your great QB.
even his good passing gains are by him passing behind the line of scrimmage and ALSO behind his receivers.
Chi-Town better dump him quickly. they aren't going to get lucky with him 2 years in a row. hell, he even sucked in the pre-season

So far I can’t complain too much, the Bears defense is doing a great job….and the offense…well…at least Grossman hasn’t cost the Bears any points yet. Man that was a hell of a hit against Grossman earlier, you could tell by the look on his face that one hurt.
That was a nice blocked field goal attempt BTW…:turbonaug

I'll never get over when Steve Smith went all over that defense 2 years ago. The image of your safety intercepting a ball, just to have him rip the ball out of his hands mid-air was priceless.
But hey the refs are on your side. They might have just won you the game.

“LOLOLOLOLOLO BEARS FTL!!!”
“Lord!...My team is better than the Bears!!!!”

But where’s you team’s thread? Well? Let’s make a Packers thread or how about a Colts or Cowboys thread…then when they lose (which is inevitable…there hasn’t been a perfect season in quite some time) we can make fun of the team you love.
The Bears got beat by what will possibly once again be the best team in the entire NFL…WOW, what a joke They only held them to 14 points huh?
The Bears aren’t perfect and as a lifelong fan, I’ll be the first to admit it but for f*ck’s sake…get a life and crash some other thread. Like I said....only thing different between the Packers and Bears is that the Packers' offense is better.
The problem is that like many other Chicago teams *Cough…Cubs…Cough*, the Bears are picked on by most others. As a Bears fan I don’t run my mouth but I guarantee you that first thing tomorrow morning when I go to work, I’ll catch shit about today’s game.
Why?
Because most football fans are ass-hats.
The Bears win and I hear “Oh, they got lucky” or “Well, the other team actually lost the game…the Bears just happened to be standing there to get the W.”. When they lose it’s “Gee…look at that…the Bears choked again.”
The FACT is that the Bears are a good team. They aren’t the current NFC champs for no reason what-so-ever. Like it or not, they took the NFC last year with the best regular season record and whooped the holy hell out of the Saints in the post season to win that title.
Can anyone here deny that?
I didn’t think so.
After a disheartening Super Bowl loss II had to come her and read the stupidity when they got beat by the Colts…why is that? Making yourself feel better because the majority of your teams came up short handed?

Why make a thread about them if you dont want anyone to come in and talk shit?

I recall the "Super Fans" opining once upon a time about a Bears loss being either the team sandbagging, or an Act of God. That's what I'm going with. DA BEARSSSSS!
Lovie Smith and Norv Turner are friends. Lovie, knowing full well that no other team in the NFC is worth a shit, decided to do his pal a favor and "lay down" in the second half.
I know this "possibility" is both rediculous and remote, but....:drink:
Realistically speaking, is losing to the Chargers in San Diego really a disgrace? Hardly. Is holding that offense to 14-points something worth noting? Hell yes. Should Rex be on the bench? meh...
Either way Panther fan, Steve Smith is super-human, but how many Lombardi Trophies do you have? How many NFL Championships (pre-Super Bowl)? How many Hall-Of-Famers? Okay, so stuff it. At least Packer-fan can hang with those criteria. :fawkdance

Not a horrible loss, but...
if the offense keeps this up, they're going to wear down their own defense. Losing at San Diego is hardly shameful, Chargers have one of the better defenses, but they (Bears O-fence) didn't look to sharp either.
I'll start worrying if the Bears look like this at home against The Queefs next week.
FYI- we'll all pay taxes (unless you're an illegal immigrant), we'll all die, and Mike Brown will get injured...
And for all the Bears bashers, what do you think of the Saints right now? It's one week :slap:

I think the Bears are proof that defense doesn't win championships.
9 times out of 10, defense DOES win championships. That's not just a football thing, but any sport. Simple law of "if you keep them from scoring, they ain't gonna win!"
As for our loss, today, it was two of the top three teams in the NFL playing each other. Regardless of whether it was NFC or AFC. They were the Bears and Chargers. The only reason the Chargers got those 14 points was because of OUR f*ckups! They didn't do it on their own! They also took advantage of some great field position after those messups. Much the same as Hester can change a game for us.
I think Tomlinson was held to 25 or 30 yards TOTAL rushing! Yea, that's pretty fricken awesome for such a star running back playing on one of the two top AFC teams in the league! I can't count how many times Tommy Harris and/or Mike Brown busted through the offensive line and were stuffing Tomlinson. For some part of the game, I think into the 3rd quarter, he actually had negative total yardage.
But have no fear fellow Bear fans, we could win the next 20 Super Bowls and beat every other team in this league by no less than 50 points per game, and we'd still get no respect, and some a$$hat on this site would say his team is better and one of my favorites, "you play in a weak division/conference". Build your bridge, get over it!

Well, the Bears may be the latest NFC team to suffer from "the curse". Not that Brown's injury is anything new, it's almost like a holiday in Chicago, but Dvoracek may be out as well. Quote from ESPN.com:
Not only did the Bears lose 14-3, but they lost two starting defenders. The official word from the Bears locker room is that safety Mike Brown and defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek suffered knee sprains and will be evaluated in Chicago on Monday.
There is a good chance Brown suffered a season-ending knee injury, and Dvoracek's could also be serious. Though the team won't confirm, Brown, who missed 28 games over the past three seasons because of injuries, became emotional talking about his injury on a Bears postgame television interview. Dvoracek's injury is also concerning, but it will take a couple days to evaluate the extent of the knee injury.
Add this to Lovie Smith's arrogance/stubborness/"our shit don't stink" attitude, and we may see the Bears out of the playoffs and drafting another crappy QB next year :drink:

Oh the Panthers team sucks, but they are better than the Bears.
Ehhh, as a Panthers fan I don't know about that. If the Bears could find some offense and get off the Grossman train, they would stand a much better chance.

I agree with most of that. I guess lightning strikes twice, CMNT ;)
Defense does win championships, because like he said, if they aren't putting points on the board you stand a much better chance. That said, the other half of your game (offense) can't keep shooting you in the foot if you expect to win. Stupid plays and turnovers screwed the Bears over yesterday.
Ummm the Colts, Chargers, Patriots, and Ravens are all better than the Bears, just to name a few. Ill give you top five, on a good day. Definitely not top three though.
Agreed, that was the part of CMNT's post I disagreed with! Bears are probably top 10 in the NFL, and really can't be considered top five (IMHO) until they establish a consistent offensive production. Three points against a mediocre San Diego defense is not good for business.
Article off ESPN.com
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The San Diego Chargers didn't look like world-beaters. Against Rex Grossman and the bumbling Chicago Bears, they didn't have to.
LaDainian Tomlinson and the Chargers finally took control of a sloppy season opener, with the reigning NFL MVP throwing for one touchdown and rushing for another in a 14-3 win over the defending NFC champion Bears.
With expectations high for both teams, it was far from the marquee matchup that hyped-up fans expected. And if it was a Super Bowl preview, well, imagine how bad the ratings would be.
"I told the guys that they were going to make a mistake somewhere and when they did it was our job to capitalize on it," Tomlinson said.
The Bears, who topped the NFC last year at 13-3 before losing in the Super Bowl to Indianapolis, were nothing short of brutal with four turnovers and their fewest points since a 22-3 loss at Jacksonville on Dec. 12, 2004, during Lovie Smith's first season as head coach. Two of the turnovers set up the game's only touchdowns.
"When we're playing at our best, those mistakes don't happen and tonight definitely wasn't our night," said Grossman, who was a pedestrian 12-for-23 for 145 yards and an interception. "We had all the opportunities in the world. Our defense gave us a chance to win this game."
The Chargers, an NFL-best 14-2 in 2006 before their playoff pratfall against New England, had two turnovers and allowed three sacks.
Still, Norv Turner came away a winner in his debut as Chargers head coach, raising his overall head coaching record with three teams to 59-82-1.
"This was a championship-type game," San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers said. "This was a game we didn't win last year. L.T.'s not going to rush for 170 yards every game. It's about winning."
Tomlinson threw a 17-yard TD pass to All-Pro tight end Antonio Gates with 45 seconds left in the third quarter, then scored on a 7-yard run with 9:09 left to play.
While Tomlinson tore through Chicago's defense in a shoe commercial that's been airing recently, he didn't fare nearly as well against the real Bears. He was held to 25 yards on 17 carries, the second-lowest total of his seven-year career. His longest gain of the day was 10 yards on the final play of the first half, when the Chargers ran out the clock and went into the locker room trailing 3-0.
Tomlinson did catch seven passes for 51 yards, but the guy who saved the Chargers was Gates, who had 107 yards on nine catches.
The Bears got away with a big one in the third quarter, when the Chargers were poised to punch it in from the 1. Defensive tackle Tommie Harris appeared to be offside as he anticipated the snap and plowed into Rivers, forcing him to fumble. Mike Brown recovered and, despite the Chargers' protests, the Bears kept the ball. They ended up punting, though.
"The line judge and head linesman just didn't rule on the play as the defender being offsides," referee Pete Morelli said. "That is it, basically."
San Diego got an even bigger break as it was forced to punt. Mike Scifres' kick was high but well in front of Devin Hester, and the ball bounced off the shoulder of Chicago's Brandon McGowan while he was blocking Michael Turner. San Diego's Matt Wilhelm recovered.
Four plays later, Tomlinson took a toss from Rivers, rolled right and hit Gates in the front right corner of the end zone for a 7-3 lead. It was Tomlinson's seventh career TD pass.
"When I got this job, he said to me, 'You know, I throw the ball,' " said Turner, who replaced the fired Marty Schottenheimer in February.
"I don't want to get into a situation where I throw every game," Tomlinson said. "I don't want to get to a point where I'm throwing so much that I'm getting incompletions. I'd rather keep my percentage up."
Tomlinson is 8-for-11 for 143 yards passing in his career.
"There's really no way that you can shut him down," Gates said of Tomlinson. "He finds ways to make other guys play better. Even though we didn't have much success running the ball, he still helped us make plays and helped us win the ballgame.
"I told him I thought it was an impressive pass, by the way," Gates said.
San Diego got yet another break when Adrian Peterson fumbled, with Clinton Hart recovering.
Tomlinson, held to 12 yards on 14 carries to that point, had consecutive carries of 6 and 7 yards to finish off the ensuing Chargers' drive.
"We had four turnovers? Wow," said Harris. "That's a lot. You don't win with four turnovers. I don't know if they played better than us, they just made less mistakes. And that's enough to win the game.
"You have to give them credit because they won, but we don't feel we have to take a back seat to anyone."
The Chargers looked out of sync from the start of Turner's debut. Even when they put together a decent drive, Nate Kaeding had a 33-yard field goal blocked by Alex Brown.
Rivers threw to Gates into double coverage and was intercepted by Brown, setting up Robbie Gould's 27-yard field goal.

Well any real football fan knows that defense wins championships and the Bears have that part locked up. First game of the season against a team (at home) that very well could have won the SB last year. Held them to 14 total points and LT had to play QB to get one of those scores. All in all not a bad showing, once the offense gets rolling (and they will) you'll see the Bears dominate the NFC..........again. Oh yea, I forgot, four turnovers didn't help either...........

I said in my other thread I think that Turnovers will kill anybody. I think there are some management sitting around the table today and saying to themselves "Why did we trade Jones again" I have liked Bensen and think he can take the load but he better step it up now!!! Peterson is a solid back who has been with the Bears for a while and he can bring stability but in my opinion they cost the game yesterday! I know you win as a team and you lose as a team but they did the most damage. I am not worried, like you said Jet the Defense flexed their might yesterday a bit and I know the Offense will get it together!!!

How do you disaggree that the Bears are one of the top teams? It's just more blind disrespect for them.
A) They went to the Super Bowl last year. Most teams don't "luck" their way that far!
B) Both the Bear's and the Charger's had W/L that only one other team in the league bested last season.
C) Over the past two seasons, they've (the Bears) have had one of the higher winning percentages in the league.
D) The Bear's and the Charger's were the two highest scoring teams in the league last year. Yea, even more than the Patriot's and the Colt's.
E) The Bear's defense is as consistent as the sky is blue. Year over year, the Bear's defense has been rock solid (for the most part) and have been top ranked throughout each season in most statisical measures. They have great speed, great strength, and great ability to get to the ball.
F) The Bear's, like many of those other top teams own their division, have consistently been in the playoffs for several years, and continually improve each year to the point where they made it as far as they did last year.
But at the end of the day last season, it was Indy #1, Chicago #2, and the Chargers/Patriot's tied for 3rd.
So yes, I stick by my point that they're one of the top teams in the league and two of us played each other yesterday.
But keep the blind hatred going!

That WAS the point. Until, your team wins anything (ever), shut-up. Most NFL fans have learned this, but Super-Panther fan (00blackss) seems to want to talk shit based on... well, what exactly? Anything? Beuller??

Hell, you can at least have a discussion with an Eagles fan or even a Bills fan, but you have zero basis for the "superiority complex" indicated by your posts.

No way.......Pats are even close to Indy, depth wise. Next week's game will bring this out.
JET
That's what you'd THINK, but how many pro-bowlers and big time clutch players have come out of the pats system and were late round draft picks or "no-namers" that played for bellicheck and morphed into legit ballers....
do not discount our bench until they get some playing time.
Guys like Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vraebel...they weren't on anyone's radar until they started playing for the pats and making big plays
Vince Wilfork, who was drafted like 29th or something, is arguably the best player on the Pats...I believe its laughable that Eli Manning was drafted higher than him that year

I am new to the Chicago area, so I was pretty impartial while watching the game. It looked to me that the true problem was the offensive line. They couldn't run the ball, and there was constant pressure on Grossman, especially in the first half.
Grossman was no star, but he didn't cost them the game either. His interception was a poor effort/route by the receiver.
The Defense played very well.

Agreed, but "blaming" the O-Line is only ½ the story. San Diego's defense is that good.

I have few bucks bet with 2 of my buddies that the Bear won't make the playoffs and won't win 10 games. I'll make money somwhere here. Yeah, they scored a whole 3 points last night!!! Here's hoping Grossman lives up to my expectations!!!

The defending NFC champion Chicago Bears have lost two defensive starters, free safety Mike Brown and nose tackle Dusty Dvoracek, to season-ending knee injuries sustained in the team's opening-day defeat at San Diego on Sunday afternoon.
Brown
Dvoracek
Follow-up MRI examinations on both players confirmed on Monday that both have suffered ligament damage to their left knees. Bears officials had feared as much on Sunday evening.
Coach Lovie Smith would not confirm a report on the NFL's official Web site that they would miss the rest of the season. But he did say: "They both have serious knee injuries."
"I'll give you some other information later on," Smith said. "Right now, in a situation like this, I'd like to talk to the players first. I'm sure you guys can understand that. Then, I'll let you know after that."
The loss of Brown is particularly devastating since this will mark the fourth year in a row in which the star-crossed defensive back will miss significant playing time, and the third time in four seasons that his campaign ended prematurely with him on the injured reserve list. It will increase to 43 the number of games that Brown has missed in the past four years.
Fearing the worst, Brown, 29, was emotionally distraught in the Chicago locker room on Sunday evening, after injuring his knee with 10 minutes remaining in the game. He called the injury "another sad day in the chapter of my football career."
Said Brown, who is recognized as the emotional leader of the Chicago secondary, and a safety who specialized in big, game-altering plays early in his career: "It's a shame. It hurts my feelings really bad."
Brown missed 14 games in 2004 with a ruptured Achilles tendon, four in 2005 because of a severely strained calf, and 10 last season with a Lisfranc foot sprain. The former Nebraska star never missed a game the first four seasons of his NFL tenure (2000-03), but has not played a full season since 2003.
The former Pro Bowl performer (2005) moved from strong safety to free safety this spring to accommodate the Bears' acquisition of Adam Archuleta in a trade, and had a strong training camp. Before the injury on Sunday, he was authoring an excellent game, with four tackles, an interception that set up Chicago's only score, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery that rebuffed a San Diego scoring opportunity.
For his career, Brown, a second-round choice in the 2000 draft, has 304 tackles, four sacks, 15 interceptions, 22 passes defensed, and four forced fumbles.
Chicago coaches likely will choose between Danieal Manning and Brandon McGowan as his replacement at free safety. Manning started 14 games as a rookie in 2006.
Dvoracek, 24, missed his entire 2006 rookie season when he was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury sustained in preseason. His starting assignment on Sunday represented the first appearance of his career, and he had two tackles before his injury.
A third-round choice, the former Oklahoma standout won the starting job in training camp this summer, filling the void left by the Bears' release of suspended nose tackle Tank Johnson.
Veteran tackle Darwin Walker, acquired last month in a trade with the Buffalo Bills, is the likely replacement for Dvoracek in the starting lineup.
Could be worse- the poor guy in Buffalo (Everett) may never walk again.
Wow- you Bears bashers are true morons. One week into the season and everyone acts like they just lost the first round of the playoffs. THEY WERE PLAYING ONE OF THEE BEST TEAMS (both on offense and defense) IN THE AFC, ON THE ROAD, AND THE D SHUT THE CHARGERS DOWN. If it wasn't for some costly mistakes, the defense wouldn't have been so damn tired at the end of the game, and it was still a fairly close score.
How do you disaggree that the Bears are one of the top teams? It's just more blind disrespect for them.
A) They went to the Super Bowl last year. Most teams don't "luck" their way that far!
Oh, I agree, they didn't luck that far. It just so happened that they hit their offensive stride in the right part of the season. That, coupled with a weak NFC North (last year) enabled them to get a top seed in the playoffs and homefield all the way.
B) Both the Bear's and the Charger's had W/L that only one other team in the league bested last season.
Again, while I am a firm believer that on any given day any team can beat another in the NFL, the Bears did only have to contend with three hapless teams in their division last year. Six easy wins.
C) Over the past two seasons, they've (the Bears) have had one of the higher winning percentages in the league.
What about the three previous seasons?
D) The Bear's and the Charger's were the two highest scoring teams in the league last year. Yea, even more than the Patriot's and the Colt's.
I know! Given their offensive woes, that's pretty amazing.
E) The Bear's defense is as consistent as the sky is blue. Year over year, the Bear's defense has been rock solid (for the most part) and have been top ranked throughout each season in most statisical measures. They have great speed, great strength, and great ability to get to the ball.
Their scoring defense wasn't that great except for the last two seasons when it was AWESOME. Before that it was pretty average (I compared it to the Panthers and it was about the same).
F) The Bear's, like many of those other top teams own their division, have consistently been in the playoffs for several years, and continually improve each year to the point where they made it as far as they did last year.
How do you get "several" from two?
But at the end of the day last season, it was Indy #1, Chicago #2, and the Chargers/Patriot's tied for 3rd.
So yes, I stick by my point that they're one of the top teams in the league and two of us played each other yesterday.
But keep the blind hatred going!
No blind hatred at all, I can care less what the Bears do in the regular season... I just find it humorous that you guys get so defensive over a loss to a great team. No shame in that whatsoever.
And if you go on pure W/L records, it was
Indy #1
San Diego #2
Chicago #3
Yea, well just wait until you get all the AFC nutswingers in here saying that they had it easy ;) :drink:
You think the Bears suck, and the Panthers are the shit. We get it. Now go collect your 4-wins from the Falcons and Bucs, and we'll see you in January. :drink:
Heh.. that statement takes some audacity given the division that the Bears are in. The Lions? Packers? Vikings? Most of those teams have been the biggest jokes of the league for the last 5-6 years. Funny thing is, each of the other NFC North teams are 1-0 whereas da Bears are 0-1.
I have few bucks bet with 2 of my buddies that the Bear won't make the playoffs and won't win 10 games. I'll make money somwhere here. Yeah, they scored a whole 3 points last night!!! Here's hoping Grossman lives up to my expectations!!!
If they don't find any offense you might well come out on top! I think Grossman will get settled down mid-season and the Bears will hit their stride and make the playoffs by winning their division.

Eh, it was only close because the officials handed the Bears a score by way of stealing one from the Chargers. Didn't hear any Bears fans mention that in this thread, though. Blatantly offsides on their own three yard line, the line judge blows it and Bears ultimately force a fumble. Score otherwise would've been 21-3, which is a pretty solid blowout. But you are 100% right about the first part, the first week of the season doesn't even matter one bit. The Bears are currently last in their division, but I still believe they will be first come January.

1) It was mentioned- in the other Bears thread :)
2) How many butt-Packer sniffers (not necessarily you) out there believe that clothesling a punt returner while he's attempting to catch the ball is legal in the NFL this year. Bad officiating is part of sports ;) Just don't tell that to David Stern :drink:

Not legal at all, and bad officiating is part of the game... also gives us conversation for Mondays as well! Don't even get me started on the NBA, I think we would all be better off if it just faded off into the night...
I really think we need to stop this NFC cannibalism. Truthfully, I hope the Bears do well, same goes for the other halfway-decent NFC teams. The AFC has been dominant for too many years now and the tide has to turn!!!

Isn't going to happen this year....I'm afraid Indy and NE are going to shred teams at mercy....uggghhhh....then you have San Diego, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. :bomb:

Just kidding. It's funny how "good" of a team NE is and most of America doesn't care about them. Maybe it's their boring uniforms, or the Sawx vs. the Yankees is more important in the northeast. Could be the history of the franchise and Boring Bill Bellicheck. Combination of everything above =

Grossman was no star, but he didn't cost them the game either didn't the Chargers score twice off of turnovers? they were just lucky it wasn't from Grossman
I'll give credit to the Bears as a top 10 team and no more. get rid of Grossman for a quality backup and you will do better
as far as the statement of how they played as good as the Chargers, I have a rebuttal to that.
do you think Grossman is going to stop losing the ball, and get great hands all of a sudden, when he hasn't been able to do that in almost 2 years now? I say NOT!!
also, do you think that the Chargers are going to continue to play that bad? again I say NOT!!!
the Bears caught the Chargers on an off day and they were lucky for that, AND THEY STILL LOST
the Bears are overrated!!!! great D though, but if the offense can't keep them off the field they will tire and be ineffective

I think its comical that people get upset about "bashing" other teams. It's going to happen regardless of who you root for. Everyone has a "rival" and will get into it with others when you win/lose to them.
On the one hand people should be gracious winners and avoid being sore losers. But that is never going to happen.
When you create a thread saying how great your team is it may come off arrogant to some and cause unwanted attention.
I am a Packers fan. Have been since I was born. Man did we ever go through some shitty times in the 80s. I got so much shit from Bears fans here in Indiana it was rediculous. Don "Magic-Man" Majikowski anyone? If I know you I will give you shit when the Pack wins, if I don't then I will try to be gracious. But assuming everyone is going to be like that is just plain ignorant.
