View Full Version : KDW N/T 255s with .5" drop in rear?

Looking to put 255/40/18 BFG KDW2 (N/T) on the stock 18's in the rear. I have .5" drop (Pedders) in the rear. Will this fit without cutting any fender? Hoping someone with same suspension setup has these and could provide feedback.
I could go with 245 to be safe, but I figure if I'm going staggered, my as well get as big as possible on the stock 18x8 wheel.
Also, will it be ok to keep my General UHP 235/40/18's on the front if I go with KDW2 on the rear? I've always had the same kind of tires on all 4 corners, so not sure if this is acceptable.
Thanks,
Eric

I am thinking you are going to have to cut. A BFG 255 is almost fat as a Toyo 275.

Eric...the BFG KDW2 NT's run wide. I have 255's on a 18X9 wheel & had to grind w/stock suspension.
On a 18X8 wheel with .5 drop, I imagine you would run into the same situation.
Just go staggered, grind the lips & you'll be done with it. The look is well worth the effort!!:boink:

I have stock ride height and am running the KDW 255s without any rubbing problems. I do have drag bags, but I can run the bags flat and not have any rubbing.

I'm running 255's in the rear on my Boyd's. They do run wide and on a hard right hand sweeper they will kiss the fender. I run just a touch of air in my bags and it does the trick. I have 245's in the front so if you want to take a look and do some measuring just let me know.

Pardon my ignorance but wouldn't rolling the fender be just as good? I have seen some sharp cuts and that makes me nervous to cut the fender.

Thanks fellas.
I went to Costco tonight and they had the 255/40/18's there. Wow, they looks nice. I will definitely roll/cut the fender to make those bad boys fit! Some guy with a 2008 Eclipse ordered them for his car  The Costco guy said they would not install them on his car, just mount them on the wheel and make him do it lol
BTW, Costco's price is $194 mounted/balanced/hazard (not incl. tax) for each tire. They beat Discount Tire's quote by about $60.
Keep in mind that KDW NTs are noisy.
I may try GSD3s or PS2s next time.

I keep hearing conflicting information on which are noisey. Are you sure its the NT and not the original TT tread as listed on the BFG website?

my friend has kdw2 on this z28 and it was the first thing i noticed when i got in his car. and he pretty much has strait pipes.
he also has 275 on all 4, so that might have something to do with it.

Something is wrong, I have them on 3 of my cars and they are very quiet.

I have KDW2s 255/35 on my 18s, why not go with a 35 instead of 40 just in case? I am stock side height BTW. I just got them bout 3 weeks ago....have about half tread left.....god I'm an idiot! got them for 180 a piece before anything at discount It all game to about 440 just for the two.
ALso I have the stock bridgestones up front, car seems to do just fine with the different tread and size. I dont see what the problem would be as our cars are not AWD

Can you provide me with the tire rpms@45mph or the circumference of each set of tires. Usually the circumference or the rpms@45 mph are listed in the manufacturers website. Or just give me exact model of each tire and I'll post up percent difference in size.
I just want to check how much percent you are off between front and rear? No ABS problems? I'm hearing under 3% difference is OK.
I put almost 23K miles on 245/40-18 KDW NTs. When I first got them I noticed that they were a little bit louder than the stock 17s wheel tire combo(which I kept). After a while they got slightly louder and at 80 mph I would turn the radio up more and I really started to notice them.
Enough so that it was somewhat intrusive and we stopped taking the GTO on long highway trips.
It didn't really dawn on me how much louder they had gotten until I went to turn the '04 in for a '06.
I put the old 17" wheel and tire package back on and at anything above 65mph in 6th gear I could actually hear the exhaust and at 80mph it was a nice burble.
Needless to say I have owned my '06 for 5 months now and the 18s w/ KDWs are sitting in the garage with plenty of tread on them, and I am squealing around town on the low traction KDWSs.
