Took the words right outta my mouth. That is my car(well my last GTO). I was running 17x8.5 up front(stock size) and 18x9.5 in the rear. I got alot of shit for doing that because everyone harped on 18s in front and 19s in back but got nothing but compliments when I had em and none of the haters made my car payments.
Replicas fit the best, but there is a local guy with some C5 Z06 wheels that he had to beat on and shave some stuff out back majorly to make fit.

For those of you that have these, what offsets/setups you using? Rolled fenders? Cut fenders? Clearance issues?
I see on factoryreproductions.com they show a 8.5 wheel but only show a 56 offset. That seems like it would not work for the front.?
I have seen the post for factoryreproductions.com but which house of wheels is it? I do a search for house of wheels and a bunch show up.
How are your experiences with these companies?
What do you do about the center cap? Does the center pop out to fit the pontiac one in?

I didn't roll, cut, or anything, I was stock. Had some drag bags but deflated most of the time. Rubbed on the inner fender until it stopped a few weeks down the road. I ran a 5mm spacer up front from Summit.
try search "house of wheels online" Bob is out of Florida and they got me the rims no problems and decent shipping.
For centercaps, they came with lug covers and Corvette stick on things, I just left them off, easy enough. Stock centercaps if you look at the picture will not fit at all, you would need to get a decal made or produced.

Does anyone appreciate aesthetics and how certain things (in this case wheels) flow with the design of the car? Corvette wheels do not look very good on a GTO. Due to the nature of the GTO's design and shape, if there is not lip on the wheel, you don't need a wheel that comes to a point...you want something that flares out...factory 18's anyone? And there is nothing worse than replica wheels, IMO.

i have 18x8.5 with 245/245/18 BFG KDW NT in the front and 18x9.5 with 275/35/18 BFG drag radials. i have some rubbing in the back on steep inclines but other than that no problems, i do have a full suspension minus drag bags. you will need to buy spacers and wheel studs for the front at the least, i will change the rear when i have some extra cash but they arent nec.
i got the wheels from house of wheels with fast shipping at a good price.

Sure, as much as I remember, its been awhile.
C6 Z06 in Competition Grey color
Ordered them from HERE (http://www.houseofwheelsonline.com/)
Galen had them first before me and I copied off of him.
Front specs: 17x8.5 with a 245/45 tire, used a 5mm spacer from Summit. I did not get longer studs, although the are recommended. You will only get 3-4 revolutions out of the stock studs, but it worked great for daily driving.
Rear specs: 18x9.5 with a 275/40 tire, no spacer. No fender mods except drag bags, which were almost never pumped up. I was running a Kumho tire. It rubbed on the inside of the fender at first, but it wore off the black paint type stuff and stopped. If you put people in the backseat alot, you will rub badly. Just the front, you're good. I did not roll or cut the fenders.
I;m sorry I don't know the offset for you, but do a search under Galen's name and you will find his thread he started.

HRE 19 x 8.5 245/35/19 up front and 19 x 9.5 285/30/19 in the rear. No spacers needed because HRE custom makes each wheel. You will prolly have to roll the rear to get the 9.5's to fit without rubbing. Quite costly, but looks great.

I bought my 2005 GTO new. I did not know how much of an issue tire size was until I tuned the car with Diablo Preditor. I had changed out my exhaust and put in headers .. JBL Headers Magnaflow exhaust.
I burned of the rubber off the 235 ... little ricer tires they put in the back. My problem was that I just purchased a set of HP Lightening Dark and they are 18' by 8". I called around and also went to tire places ... good tire places and talked with the techs the story is that you can run a much wider wheel up to a 265 with no problem on 8 inch rims.
I opted for 275-35-18 BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050A .... I found them on E-bay and they where local South Florida. They are not run flats (which by the way run like crap) they cost $240 a set.
I jacked up my springs with 1.5 inch spacers ... I used two different kinds of spacers the rubber kind and also the silver smaller kind. I was told that spacers can fall out so I put in two sets, just to make sure. My back is jacked up over one inch. You get that 1970's muscle car feel when the Goat gets jacked with spring spacers. The tires bulge a bit but I feel safer with 11 inches of tire foot print to the ground.
I was told NOT to use wheel spacers to seperate the wheel from the hub .. this puts the balance of the car out of wack .... a set of four spring spacers cost about $7. I was told the rubber kind are better but I the rubber kind in and the silver round ones in.
In my opinion .... GM put an unsafe product out on the road ... a poor man's Corvette. The brakes are not adequate ... The clutch is not adequate .... once you tinker with the goat, you can get some hair raising power ... with little Honda Civic brakes and a second rate clutch that will burn right up with added horse power. After 10,000 miles of driving and dealing with my car I can see why the kids whose daddy gets them a goat loose it and crash up this bad boy. Bottom line I feel safer with 275-35-18 BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050A in the back.

You sir are misinformed on the modern GTO. GM put an unsafe product out and you are trying to "improve" it by putting $7 worth of crap that will lead to failure in your rear springs?
Excellent choice of tires, although I might visit www.peddersusa.com in your situation and read a bit, or head over to the suspension section.

I went to several Pontiac dealers in my area and asked the service managers to save the shipping spring spacers when they prep any new GTO. Normally the suspension guys just toss these spacers in the trash."

Sir, if you look at what date I joined this board everything that you just "yelled" at me over the internet I have seen many, many, many, many times before.
Strut rub was a common issue on the 05's and some of the 06's. Has been addressed and fixed whether through the dealer or aftermarket support, such as Pedders.
You know why the dealership doesn't carry the spacers?! Because they are not safe for the street! They were used strictly for shipping. But congrats on finding a cheap mod, I guess.
Your car runs 170mph? Damn where did you do that? On the street? Man, I hope you just kill yoruself and don't take innocent lives with you. Who do you get tuned by anyway?
Just to add:
I am on my second GTO, have had every bolt on you can do (except turbo), 2 GTO's, M6 and A4, did a Monaro conversion, and now back to my current 06 A4 GTO. SO I have been around the block when it comes to problems with these cars.
So please welcome to the board and SEARCH for all the stuff you are trying to inform me on and you will see it has been around for sometime.

Ok my post is being trolled by someone who says "Your car runs 170mph? Damn where did you do that? On the street? Man, I hope you just kill yoruself and don't take innocent lives with you."
This is after I post that my back end took off sideways and spun me out on highway because my back tires where bald after 5 thousand miles what a JERK.
I bought a 2005 in may of 2006 so with GM's rebates I bought the car for less than a used car. Phantom Black with red leather interior, nice looking car fast .. fast car.
Unfortunately this car was designed by committee the same committee that was assigned the task of designing the horse and came up with the Camel. The headers are crap the exhaust is crap, so you spend some $$ money $$ change those out put a in a new intake in. But the brakes are ricer Civic brakes, the clutch is crap and can't handle the power oh and the tires are fit for a gocart.
The people driving these cars are from my observation 100% men and from what I have seen the age range is 17 to 23, they dont have the $$ to upgrade this car to make them safe. Let's just say that if you need parts for your Goat they should be easy to find as you can find many crashed ones. They have nice pictures of some on E-bay for cars that are being parted out. From these pictures you can see the tubuler steel construction and how much of the car is carbon plastic.
I got a great looking set of HP Lightening dark wheels that make the car look great. Yea I like my bigger tires in the back wish I had gotten wider wheels so I could get some serious street rubber back there but I am limited by the 18" by 8" wheels.
Once you jack up the back with spacers you can get big rubber back there, they sell various kinds on the net and you can get them at Pep Boys or Autozone. My ass end feels harder but the shocks seem to be better absorbed by the bigger tires. I am currently running the tires at 35 psi but I may take them down to 30 psi, I would do that now but I am worried about the pressure on the side walls. I disagree with the guy trolling my posts, this subject cannot be discussed enough ....

I am planning to upgrade tp pedder suspension as soon as i get back from deployment. i would like any opinions on wheels tires ect just as long as they dont involve rubbing or car modification. The biggest size the better looking to put power to pavement. If you have rim sizes include all measurements please. Thanks

Hmmmmm....... Ok so you got a great deal on your car..... want a cookie??? Stop b***hing about the GTO if you don't like it get a civic since you like the brakes so much. Hey theres always room for improvement on everything, if there wasn't their would not be room for an aftermarket. I know girls that drive a gto my girl friend drives mine so again your observations are wrong. I am only 20 now and 19 when i bought my car, i also know that i only test my car on a closed course where i have help if i need it and no one gets hurt except me cause guess what i take the risk. You said you took your car to 170mph....... you want to go fast any good driver knows to check all aspects of there car before taking a risk.... apparently you didn't and look what you got..... scared. As far as people crashing their cars yes it happens, but a camaro, mustang, and trans am's all get crashed so just learn that sometimes the car has problems, but your responsibility as a driver is usually 75% of the problem. You didn't keep a check on your tires it F***ed you over, stop whining over people telling you the truth and accept your failure like any honorable person. This comes from an enlisted airman and shelbygoat is enlisted army so we have the common sense to know how to take care of a gto and not just the ability to push down our right foot not knowing the outcome of our choice.

Miamishyguy, no sense in discussing this further.
Yea sure the GTO is crap...haha
headers are crap, um the exhaust as you say is crap....sure whatever
everything is better when you buy into the aftermarket...you sound like a converted ricer because this is your first domestic, if not i really don't care, i think its fun to get on here and here about people like you putting "spacers" in your rear springs to fit bigger tires...
Oh and you can fit Nitto 275 WITHOUT ANY FENDER MOFICIATIONS on 17" stock wheels
but without searching you would know that
and I am truely sorry for not taking smypathy on you for not noticing that you car has some bald ass tires....so WHEN did strut rub affect the rear tires? haha, please tell me?!

Bottom line I feel safer with 275-35-18 BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050A in the back.
you are not safer. min. rim width for that size tire is 9.5". and Tire and Rim Assoc. allows for a tolerance of .5" in either direction. you are mushrooming the tread. your contact patch is no bigger than the O.E. tire. The cord body and belt package on the 265 are doing things now they are not designed to do. its just a matter of time and that tire will be going nuts on the inside.

Oh and you can fit Nitto 275 WITHOUT ANY FENDER MOFICIATIONS on 17" stock wheels
but without searching you would know that
and I am truely sorry for not taking smypathy on you for not noticing that you car has some bald ass tires....so WHEN did strut rub affec the rear tires? haha, lease tell me?!
average age is just a bit higher than what you think...go ahead and make a thread and ask it here if you want to see....LS1GTO.com is just the biggest GTO message board on the web right now
I'm out.

Your post is being trolled , your not the op what are you taking about.
How are the clutch and brakes inadequate? I've never had a problem with either. The GTO shifts great stops great. What kind of goof would put spacers in the rear springs.:gr_jest:
17 to 23 the GTO new cost over 30,000 msrp I think that would put it in a higher age bracket.
The gto doesn't come with headers and how is the stock exhaust crap?
Carbon plastic ?
Are you suggesting the gto has more crashes that other rwd sports cars?
Do you even own a GTO,show us a photo.

Wow! If you are considered "nice" and "shy" in Miami, I would not want to meet the mean and cocky people.
There are a lot of people on this board who know what they are talking about. Take some time and read before you post or you may end up your sticking your foot in your mouth, proverbially speaking, of course.

I PMed you about those wheels months ago. Do you have any new pics...preferably in daylight. :gr_jest:
What about these??? Will these fit??? 8.5 and 9.5???
http://factoryreproductions.com/wheels.php?co=corv ette&wheel=11
The best way to go with those is by ordering the +49mm offset front wheels & the +54mm offset rears. I'm betting you're gonna get rub in the rear no matter your tire size. Even my 9" rears (+50mm) rub.
Would these work? http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...8.5&bp=5-120.6
They don't show any info on offset, so I'm betting they have the stock Corvette offset (+56mm). That will put the inside edge of the tire & wheel closer to the strut. This will create more problems that most people want to deal with.

I FOUND OUT HOW UNSAFE IT IS WHEN MY GOAT SPUN OUT ON US 1 IN MIAMI BECAUSE MY BACK TIRES WHERE BALD AFTER ABOUT 5 THOUSAND MILES. GOOGLE AND YOU WILL FIND THAT PEOPLE ARE BEGGING GM DEALERS TO GIVE THEM THE SPACERS THEY USE FOR SHIPPING ... NO LIE ... NO JOKE ....

People on a Buick Regal forum must know everything about the GTO. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/SCCAGTO/rol leyes.gif I must have also missed the rush for the shipping spacers. If someone would have told me that, I wouldn't have spent that money on those well engineered King rear springs. The suspension rub was for the front tires (which spinouts normally happen to rear tires). There is a fix for the front tire wear/rub problem as well as a known rear tire wear problem. Sure, you have to buy new rear camber adjusters, but most of us here smoke the rear tires, so we have that wear problem & simply put on new tires. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/SCCAGTO/shi tnot.gif GM didn't put an unsafe car on the road. They may have skimped on some items, but they did not put a deathtrap on the road. Oh wait...400 HP...400 lb.-ft. of torque...inexperienced shit kids being given these cars for just being born. Yep, the perfect recipe for a deathtrap. If you can pull your head out of your ass for 2 seconds, then sell the POS GTO & don't come back here. Maybe you would feel better at LSXGTO.net. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/SCCAGTO/cnt dwnfngr.gif

READ THE POST ...
"The Spring Spacers are used in shipping on New GTOs. They have a part number on them, but GM says that this is not a servicable part and they don't carry it yet.
I went to several Pontiac dealers in my area and asked the service managers to save the shipping spring spacers when they prep any new GTO. Normally the suspension guys just toss these spacers in the trash."
THIS POOR GUY IS NOT SPENDING $7 FOR SPACERS HE GETS HIS GM PARTS DIRECTLY FORM A DEALERS TRASH. WONDER WHY GM HAS SUCH A CRAPPY QUALITY REP ... BUY A GM AND GET YOUR PARTS OUT OF OUR TRASH BINS.
JUST TO ADD:
WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR I PUT TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPRING SPACERS IN SO ACTUALLY MY OUT OF POCKET COST WAS $14. MY CAR CAN RUN 170 MPH WITH LITTLE EFFORT NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN TUNED .. OH AND I FEEL SO SAFE ... WITH THE ADDED SECURITY OF A SECOND PAIR OF REDUNDANT SPACERS IN THE BACK.
IF YOU PUT IN A NEW EXHAUST HEADERS AND TUNED YOUR GOAT AND YOU ARE RUNNING IT ON THE OME 235-35-18, I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU INCREASE YOUR LIFE AND HEALTH INSURANCE BECAUSE YOU WILL SOON BE AT THE SCENE OF A NASTY ACCIDENT .... YOUR OWN ...
Only the 17" rim cars (which got 245mm tires) can have strut rub. If you have 18's (with 235mm tires, the aussie design spec), you will not have strut rub. You're a moron.
Shipping spacers, are not driving spacers. they are to control movemnt of the car on the boat. They are designed to cripple the proper function of the suspension. You're an Idiot.
As for the headers, sure, any aftermarket part will have some clearance issues. Its called tolerance stacking. Small errors, even with in tolerance, can add up to cause fitment problems. No competant tech would allow those clearances to go unchecked. You're a fool.
None of these are fatal issues. The car is fine. You, well, ya shoulda been a blowjob, but thats just my opinion. But what isnt my opinion, is that you dont know your head from your ass about cars, and should not be allowed to own or drive one, much less modify, or pay to modify one, ever.
