Is it better to roll the fenders or cut them? I figure I can get in there and cut most of the lip off then seal/repaint the inside.
Anyone in the Jersey area roll? (fenders that is!)

I haven't picked out any wheels yet but just had my quarter panels cut. I think it's supposed to be easier and you won't have to worry about your paint getting f'd up.

Grind them. 90% of the time u can see a rolled quarter from a mile away.

cut. looks ugly if you get under and look up, but noone can see it. at least you don't have to worry about cracking the paint on the outside. now THAT would be depressing!

Yeah, I like them but the finish is coming off the wheels and the tires are shot. I'm trying to decide on 18's or 19's with some 275's out back. I only have 245's out back now.

That's what i'm probably going to do. I want the Alt Miro 359's. Just worried about them fitting. MrTosh has them and they look awesome. 40mm offset in the rear has me worried but they work for him. It's stressing me out. I'm battling a migraine as I type.

I rolled, and I would probably grind if I had it to do over again. My fenders have a couple little wrinkles in them after rolling them FLAT! No one else ever notices them unless I point them out, but the fact that I notice them is enough.
On top of all that there is a small area that is right in a bend so it is unroll-able that I will probably end up having to grind when I lower the car.

I went to 3 body shops and they all told me not to grind them. The spot welds hold the inner and outer quarter panels together and if they're removed, the car will be significantly weakened and eventually separate because of the horsepower. I had mine rolled by Rogue Engineering in Ho Ho Kus, NJ (BMW shop). They charge me a total of $200. I have no paint damage at all and it can't be seen either. http://www.rogueengineering.com/Merchant2/merchant .mvc?
I had never seen it done before so I was scared to do it myself. After seeing them do it, I would rent a roller/heat gun and do it myself now.

I just talked with my body shop they brougth up a good point if you roll when you trade it in they could say that it needs new quarter panels and deduct that from what there going to give you for the trade on the other hand if you cut can always smooth out an paint the one spot

Roll it up.

Smoke it up.
Then Cut it up
If you want to do both.

Plates are on my 05 GT but the fiance wont give the car back which is ok because now that I got the GTO, I dont want to drive it anyway. The plates are Organ Doner plates, thus the DO IT. Thinkin about puttin DID IT on the GTO....

You can cut about 1/2" off without removing the spotwelds (on most GTO's).
If you take your time and do it with long sweeping motions, then hit it with some 60 grit paper, the edge will be smoother then stock.
Nice sweeping motion like this:

if u are looking for more clearance cut them .much easier and less chance of messing the paint up . as far as rims i have 19's and if i could go back i would get 18's in the same rim cus there is nothing out there in a str / strip tire . and having to switch to my stocks everytime i want to run someone or go to the track . has gotton old big time ....

I am in the same boat as you, bud. I had mine roleld before, but seriously need to cut them so I can fit. Find someone to cut them and NOT ROLL them and you will be better off. Also, take to heart the idea of doing a cradle alignment, that seems to work as well, or prove to be a worthy secondary insurance. GL and Ill let you know how mine turn out as I am getting them cut on Sat.

got mine cut and im soooo glad that I did. I am rubbing just a tiny bit, but thats because the factory cant even line up cradle bolts properly. Once the cradle is actually lined up right, I wont rub at all. Rolling gives you about half the clearance at cutting.

I need to cut my rear fenders. I have a Bosh grinder. What type of grinding wheel do I need to get. I have used the grinder for cutting straight through metal so I have those wheels. I saw the pictures above and it looks like you sand it down (for lack of the correct description). Also is this the correct tool to use? This thing gets crazy out of contol! It also makes things hot real fast.
