View Full Version : Those of you with Nitto 555's...

I'm getting new rear tires tomorrow. If I'd had a choice, I probably would have gone back to Toyo's, but I'm stuck down here in south Georgia with a rear tire that's showing cords, and will have to drive 2 1/2 hours north, just outside of Atlanta, to get the new ones tomorrow morning. Then home to Charlotte... another 4 hours. It just ain't easy to find 275/30/19's on a moment's notice. :wall: My cheapest option (and $$$ is a HUGE consideration) has turned out to be the Nitto 555 street tire.

My question is to those of you that run them on your daily driver. How have they held up? Do you like them?

Thankfully, my goat is no longer my daily driver. So maybe they'll last longer than the ContisportcontacII's I have on there now. (I wouldn't recommend them. They didn't last long at all)

Oh... and one more question. Why the hell is the left rear showing cords, but the right rear still has plenty of life left???

I replaced my stock 17's with 555's at 28,000 miles and ran 'em about 20,000 miles before getting my 18's (which also had Nitto 555's). Never had any problems with them, good traction as long as you don't get stupid in the rain, and they still look good.
Same results with my 18's. I'm on my second set with them.

Is there a difference between the Nitto drag radials and Nitto street tires?

The tread is going to be different and the rubber compound also.

Lisa, I ran Nitto 555's on two sets of my rims on my last GTO. The street tires last awhile, but with the power I made with Maggie and a couple burnouts, they still lasted a while. But def not sticky tires for the strip, compared with the DR's. All in all I liked em for the street, didn't hook too much, but just enough.

I have my M/T DR's for the strip. I'm hoping these that have been ordered for me are the street version. Since I'm in such a bind, I'll have to go with whatever has been gotten for me. :) Course, my M/T's are bald. And since the goat is no longer my daily driver, maybe the Nitto DR's would be good too.

I've had them on for about 20,000 now, holding up very well. I dont have any complaints, had an issue with noise as soon as i got them on but after about 200 miles and a re-balance they were good. But i think the issue there was the balance and not the tires. Even took them through one winter here (not recommended haha). I'd get them again.

Thanks for the responses!! As it turned out, I ended up with Falkens. I had told them to find the least expensive ones they could.

The ride home was good though. They rode pretty good. Maybe these will last just a bit longer that the Continentals. :wall:

The 555 street are what I run on the front and 555r are on the back. Its been raining all day and I was able to do 80mph on the highway. No complaints at all.

I like my Nittos. When I order my rims next spring, im probably going to put the 555 on the front, and my 275 555R in the rear.

As for just one tire being worn, is your LSD working correctly? When you do a burn out does both tires spin? Only reason I though this might be the cause is because I know mine is shot and my left side(passenger tire) is more worn than the right.

No, it's not working right. I need a spring tuning kit. But the funny thing is, when I do a burn out at the track, it's the left rear that doesn't always spin. And that's the side that was worn. :dunno:
