Need some advice here because I'm so torn.
The nation's gun show is tomorrow and I plan on getting me something to complement my XD-45.
Projected budget is $600-750
What I'm going to be looking for, feel free to make suggestions:
-Beretta CX-4 storm carbine.
-Sig P220 pistol
-Another Xd-45 ( I have the full size 4 inch. I'd probably get a compact tactical so I could have both length barrels and both size frames)
-Used AR-15
-M1 carbine
-Beretta PX-4 sub-compact ( I don't think they are out yet though)
Anyone wanna help?

I love me some sigs!
Depends on what you want the gun for. For home protection, nothing beats a nice 357 with a 6" barrel.

I have the XD45 Tactical. I wouldn't want to get ANOTHER XD45. Get a Sig. Variety is the spice of life!

i owned a sig P220, past tense. great gun, but for only 8+1 it was HEAVY. too heavy, i'd much rather have a 1911 with a wilson combat 8+1. (the decocker was nice though)
of your list i'd go for the M1 carbine personally, love the gun and the history. however, with the white house opening up soon i would go for the AR-15 first if you don't already own one.
i'll get you in to a brand new quality AR for about an extra $100. if you're interested PM me, i have two here on consignment.

My main goal is to keep things alike so I can have some redundancy. The XD-45 is every I'll ever need as far as carry/home defense.
I also have a Colt 1903 pocket hammerless and a model 94 in .32WS. Those are both old collectors type stuff though.
So basically I either want another .45
or a carbine that has a companion pistol hence the want of the Berettas.
I would also not turn down a AR-15 because then I would drool over a 6.5 Grendel upper.

I've got the CX-4 Storm and love it.
I've got a Sig p228 9mm and it is by far my favorite firearm. I'm actually about to buy another b/c I want two.
My Dad just bought a Taurus Judge and it's crazy. It shoots 410 or 45 bullets, the 410 being awesome for home/ car protection. Find the vid and watch it.
Another fav of mine is my Marlin 44 lever action. Stainless finish w' walnut stock.

The CX-4 or the M1 are my fav of those to shoot. Although I live n DC so no handguns for me anyway

you mentioned redundancy, so that scratches the other pistols out. however if the XD is your only "modern" pistol, i wouldn't start replicating yet... everyone should have the following:
Glock/XD
10/22
AR/AK
1911
:D
this isn't a bad list by any means
-Beretta CX-4 storm
-Used AR-15 (or find a new complete upper, and complete lower)
-M1 carbine
-1911
-XD

If you ever need to use your XD, the cops will take it for evidence. They'll give it back eventually, but you'll be with out your trusty protector of choice in the mean time. During that trying period your going to long for your XD. Personally I vote for a back up of the XD.

i'd look closer at a springfield armory for your price range. the PT1911 is a good featured gun at a good price but they struck me as pretty rough around the edges. sold a guy one and he immediately brought it back to me after the ambi-safety came loose and told me to re-sell it. when i had it apart to do that fix i got a good look at the frame and internals and wasn't impressed much........just food for thought.

thanks for the tip. I never took one apart but I've dry fired a few of them and that trigger just makes me smile.

i own an xd tactial 40 - with adjustable sights and barsto barrell - i used standard glock 21 (45 cal) to compliment - it is a great maintance free and extremely realiable straight shoot pistol right out of the box - also i have had great tight shot groups with sig's - 226 and 228 in 9mm - just feel out what you like and what feels comfortable to you - and
have fun .

For most of them yes but I used to own a HP and while I know he didn't finish the piece himself, it's still considered a browning design. I was not a fan.
My colt 1903 on the other hand is a work of art.

i'm eyeing that PX4 subcompact. I liked my buddy's full size, and the sub looks like fun, though I don't know if I'd get much use out of it. I already have a micro 1911 for carry.

If I get a px4 storm it would only be to have a companion to a cx4 since they share mags

you can actually get CX4's that take M9/92FS mags as well IIRC. I had a companion rifle to my M9, a Kel Tec SUB2000, but I sold it because I never used it. If I need a rifle I'll just grab my AR or M14

Check out a Walther P99. I have one as well as a Springfield XD-40. Both are awesome and feel natural in hand.

sorry not a walther fan. My buddy has the ppk and the p22 and they are both problematic.

P99 is not the same as those two. I've run almost 2000 rounds through mine and haven't had a malfunction of any kind.
Have you ever looked at Ruger? They just came out with their first internal striker pistol, the SR-9.
Smith & Wesson's new M&P looks pretty good as well. ...Handled one at a gun show and it also has a natural feel to it.

1911, or a rifle.
Every man should own a 1911 at some point in his life. None of the newer DAO or DA/SA semi-autos can come close to the trigger feel of a 1911. I suggest a springfield loaded, or a kimber of some flavor.
Also, < 5" barrels make you gay.

I'm right there with you on the Walther, but knowing Scurvy is not a Walther fan, I didn't suggest it... We all have our preferences.
Got to second the idea that every shooter needs to own a 1911 sometime. One of the finest triggers I've ever pulled is on a Kimber Stainless Compact, series 1. What a fine shooter it is! There is just something about the 1911 design that is so addicting. It's like a GTO in many respects, you can do almost anything you want with it to personalize it. I love tearing them down to clean them, they are built so logical. Ol John Browning was ahead of his time in many ways. The venerable 1911 is just a little to heavy and cumbersome for my tastes in a carry gun, but one fine shooter for range or competition shooting.

I checked one of these out at the show and I was very unimpressed with it to be honest. Just no where near the quality of other stuff out there.
P.S. bought to start a new thread for my purchase
