ok from what i have been reading through some post is that a 5x4.75" bolt pattern wheel will work on these cars with the proper back spacing. if so then that means i can get a set of charcoal grey torque thrust wheels that fit an f-body and bolt them on to my car or would i need spacers with to fit them properly. i think i remember reading a member test fitted a set of wheels from a f-body on his car but had a few clearence issues because of there width(i think it was a 17x9.5" rim). does anyone have any more info on this? for now i'm just going to search for the proper backspacing for this wheel combo on my car for 17x8" or possibly 17x9.5" if the clearence isn't to bad.

It all depends on the wheel widths and backspacing/offsets. If a wheel has a little to much backspacing you can always run a spacer. But not enough and it's going to stick out the sides like a F-150 from south of the border. You can also search for wheels that fit a mid 90's BMW 3 series. Just say you have a 95 BMW 325i. For the front on 8-8.5 front wheels offsets in the 35mm-45mm range will work. For the rear on a 9-9.5 you want offsets from 40-53mm. Most rear wheels are going to require fender rolling to fit bigger 275 rear tires. If you want to keep the stock 245 tire width then get the same type rims as mentioned for your fronts. Here is a great link to play around with wheel sizes and offsets. Stock wheel size is 17x8 +48mm offset with a 245/45r17 tire. http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/info_specs.jsp

Just did some searching and the Torq Thrust M in size 17x9 45mm offset will work on front and back for you http://www.americanracing.com/browse_ar.asp. Run your stock 245/45r17 in front and you can put a 275/40r17 in back if you want. Or if you don't want to roll/grind your fender lips you could run 255/40r17 on all four. If you like a bit of a rake then go for 255/45 in back and 255/40 in front or maybe 265/40r17 in back and 255/40r17 in front. So many options.

i think i'll run the 244/40r17 all around so i can rotate tires since this is my daily driver. now i just have to find out if they can do a 45mm offset so i can use them if not i'll get the f-body ones and use adapters instead of spacers. thanks for all your help now i just need to wait till feb. so i can order everything i need.
edit: i was going to try and run the torque thrust 2 and not the M, with a 45mm offset i would have to use the same backspacing as a f-body car but i'm going to play around with the calculator a bit and see what i come up with. ok never mind i got it thanks, i didn't know it gave you backspacing also.

Well darn it. The 5 x 4 3/4 bolt pattern will not need adapters at all. Some companies market their wheels as fitting both bolt patterns. Ruff wheels is one. Good luck on your wheel quest.

Ok, I've got it. You want a Torque Thrust II in 17x9.5 46mm offset. You would be stretcing your 245/45r17 to fit on them though. Max recommended rim width is 9". You could however get some sticky 255/40r17 like the Falken RT-615 or BFG G-Force Sports and put them on there. That would be a sweet rotatable setup.

yeah i found that out after i read your post and i can get the proper backspacing i need and hopefully the right offset, if not i can adjust what i need through the calculator you showed me and get them the cut a set of wheels that will fit.

ok i did a setup just like you said with the 46mm offset and it ends up being .4 closer to the strut than stock, isn't where all the clearence problems are up front? what if i use a 36mm offset then it would move it a 1/2" farther away from the strut and i could use a 275 tire if possible but what about fender clearence problems then? i would really hate to custom order a set of wheels and not have it fit no matter what i do. i think if i can't get the TT 2's to work then i may go with some Drift r's or something like that style. but i would really like to use the TT 2's.

I just did it with a 255/40r17 tire and it came up with .1" closer. I would try it and see. Worst comes to worst you could always run a small 2-3mm spacer on the front. I think it would work as is. Group a sells a Drift R package with 19x9 43mm offset for the front that comes with a 265/30r19. That puts it at 5mm closer whereas the 17x9.5 46mm offset with a 255/40r17 is 3mm closer.

so the smaller tire helps clear the strut even with the wheels moved 3mm closer? do you or anyone else use a 9" wide front tire and know if fender rub is a problem? i could get it to clear the strut with a spacer like you said but my concern then would be fender, i'm not going to lower the car but i will get the Pedders spring kit as well as replace certain bushing in the car that are known to fail with there kit as well and maybe even a sway bar kit.

I have run a 17x9 40mm offset with a 255/45r17 and didn't hit the fender on stock height springs.
