Thanks for your comments,
I'm new to this forum. I have just finished my slygoat. Procharger, roller rockers, comp cam, 44 lbs injectors, stiffer springs, double face clutch, rear air bags, short throw hurst, and flow thru exhaust. Need tires to hook it up. This goat does more than grazing.

Just to clarify, what are the largest tires that can go on the stock 18" rims, with no mods? thanks

See post #7 ;)

Any wider then that is really pushing your luck with the tire loosing it's shape, performance and safety IMO.

Here is a pic of 255 bridgestone on stock wheels. By the number it don't sound much bigger but if you set it next to a stock 235 bridgestone they are much wider.

Thanks Mr. Black, this size on all 4 wheels? or just the back? Will this change the speedo calibration ?

Thanks Mr. Black, this size on all 4 wheels? or just the back? Will this change the speedo calibration ?

I just have them on the back as my front 235s still have good wear left to them.

I cannot verify if the 255 will fit all the way around without hitting the strut.

Speedo should negligable, the 35s series 255 just a smidge shorter then the 40 series 235 tire. Maybe an 1/8th inch.

Thanks, I just remembered that my diablo tuner has that ability to change the speedo calibration, you just enter the rear tire size #'s !!

are yours regular tires, or runflats?

Mr. Black
12-30-2007, 09:38 AM
The 255s in the pic are runflats RE050s. I do believe the stock RE040s 235s are not.

Do you like the ride? or do you think the 255/35-18 RE040's would be better?

Mr. Black
12-30-2007, 10:25 AM
I haven't driven enough with either tire to say for sure yet.

Only had these wheels for less then a month and the 255s on the back for a week.

One thing I do know is the 040s are loud as hell on rough pavement. Just putting the 050s on the back seems to have, cut that noise down a good bit.

Still won't be able to really flog these tires for a while as it is the cold season here. Temps in the 30s. :(

Mr. Black...any pics of the tires mounted on the car yet??

Hmm, I didn't think the 255s would fit without any modifications or spacers. Definitely don't want that strut rub problem.

When I take the Blizzaks off this spring I may just have to buy some new 255s for the rear... ;-)

Yeah I wish I knew if they would fit. I will throw one of my rears on the front for a test fit to check clearence when I put my springs and struts on here in a few months.

Do you have any shots of the unmounted rims/tires as a straight shot from the rear? Your shot above is at an angle where you can't really see any difference in width. Also a shot of the rear of the car with the 255s mounted would be nice. A low shot would be great! Thanks.

To be honest, you probably won't notice much difference between the 235's and the 255's at your power level.

You either need to go with a drag radial tire or bite the bullet and take the grinder to the fender lips. After what you have done to the car, I don't see why grinding the fender is an issue.

got 275/35/19's with 19x9.5 foose speedsters, but needed fenders rolled.

No need to be honest man. I know all about that.

BUT, I had two mismatched tires that were on these wheels when I bought them and I found the 255s with 95% tread for 35 bucks a piece.

I could not PASS that UP.

Speaking for myself of course.

any chance if 275/35/18's will fit unmodifide on our rear stock 18's ? I have seen a steal of a deal for 275/35/18 and for 285/30/18 , so i was hoping there was maybe a chance they could fit my GTO's rear rims.

BobthePhotoGuy

they MIGHT be able to stuff them on there, but.....

It's kind of like a girl with D cups wearing a B cup bra. It just isn't meant to be.

A 275 should be on a 9" rim. When put on an 8" rim, the sidewalls get pulled in causing the tread curve, which will cause some loss in the contact patch. Not to mention that there have been instances where the wrong size tire has failed due to the extra stress.

Someone posted a pic of a 275 on an stock 18 the other day. It look bad and I don't mean good bad. It was bad bad. It was painfully obvious that the tire didn't fit.

I did a 265/35/18 on the rear on stock 18s with no rolling. They do not rub. Stayed with stock size on the front. The sidewall does not have much of a buldge at all, but I think you would really be pushing it to go any wider than that on the 8" wheel.
