I've never changed a lug of a GTO, but have on a few other cars. Basically you take of the rotor and just hammer out the old one and then hammer in the new one. Its pretty simple to do, just give yourself a couple of hours in your garage and some beer to cool off from all the hammering ;)

The lug should be available from most auto stores like Autozone or Pepboys, and will probably run you a few $$. Did you need to replace the lug nut as well? The auto stores have a guide to tell you which lug nuts to buy, though you'll likely have to buy a whole set. Maybe someone on here that has switched to "tuner" lug nuts can send you one of their old ones? Or, if you haven't got wheel locks, now might be a good time to get them.

Here is some reference material:

Word of caution... its not always as easy to hammer out as the video makes it seem!

I've recently replaced a wheel stud on my friends 99 Trans Am. Hammering the old broken stud out wasn't so hard, but I couldn't figure out how to press the new one back in without a C-Clamp or hammering.

What I did was I put the new stud inplace and installed a lugnut on the other side with about 6 large washers in front of it. I tightened the lug until it pulled the stud all the way through. Worked perfectly!

New studs are basically cheap. Autozone had them for $1.49 each for the T/A.

Although, I just checked on Autozone.com and Advanceauto.com and neither one had wheel studs listed for the GTO...???

If it's the front, an EVO VIII stud will work.

am OEM GTO stud is dealer only, expensive, and 99.5% of the time - not in stock.

p.s. Lugnut and wheel stud are 2 different things.... so uh which one did you screw up?

I can vouch for the price of a wheel stud. I had to replace one on my left rear. Like a lot of things for this car, it had to be ordered. I don't remember the cost, but it was more than I expected!

you can get ARP rear studs for something $20. much better than stock:judge:

the fronts however, as said already, are for an EVO and are about $80:banghead:

If you don't do ARP studs that are longer and stronger, (only worth it if you constantly swap wheels or have High HP/race), Then just go to a parts store and get an aftermarket replacement for a Mitsubishi EVO VIII, they are about $2 each and they should have them in stock. ( front only)

Works if you need one quick also, since dealers do not stock the OEM ones and there is no "aftermarket" studs for the GTO. (at least not in anyone's system)
