I was photographing the new arrivals for insurance reasons (read: Bored) and figured I would post them up here. I know there are a lot of gun fans on the board and would like to see what you are packing.

Here is a Glock 21, Kimber 1911, S&W 629, Russian Capture Walther P-38, and a CZ-52. Let’s see what other cool pistols you guys have! Anybody else out there collecting C&R pistols?

Nice Sig. I had a choice between my Glock and a 220 for Christmas. I think I should have gone with the Sig.

I don't own guns to kill people.

Then what do you use them for, paperweights?

I realize people enjoy target shooting, etc....I do too...but c'mon...the only reason anyone owns a firearm is because they feel they might oughta have one around "just incase". You can't argue that, I certainly won't. I don't wake up every day, or ANY day, wondering to myself who I might kill. However, I pitty the fool that gains entry to my home, uninvited, whilest I'm at large inside. lol.

I understand fully, however, I started last year collecting WW2 era rifles because I love history. To me, it is very enoyable to own rifles that have seen battles or have been captured, especially with all the WW2 shows on The History Channel. None of these rifles are loaded, but I do know that they can serve a purpose much like you stated. I see them as pieces of history, not just devices designed to kill. True, the Kimber, Glock, .44 mag, and other rifles I own might not be war artifacts, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them for the simple reason that they are cool.

Just because my Goat can do 150mph doesn't mean I do or have. I own it because I think its cool, just like guns.

and well worth the money but would pay that much unless it a mk23socom. the regular mk23 iv seen as cheap as $1700

Riddlefox

I bought it for $1000 :) I saw it at a gun show in the used area marked at $1400, and my friend told me to offer them a grand. They took it, and I couldn't say no to that. Came with the case, four magazines, and the manual and all the other crap.

It's a nice pistol and very accurate, but it's pretty thick in the hand and the trigger is not as nice as even the stock Kimber. It definitely gets people asking about it at the range, but I prefer shooting my 1911.

Scurvy, thanks for the compliment, but I took that photo; it's not a stock photo. Please note the holster next to the Mark 23 and the holster that it's laying on in the above photo. (The Mark 23 doesn't actually fit in it but it was the one that fit the photo the best)

Why are they worth the money? What can they do that the Glock 21, XD-45, MP45.....etc... can't do? Is it just the H&K name that demands such a high price tag? Hell even for $1,700 I could have nabbed my sub-40 AND added a brand new Carbon 15 to the mix.

Riddlefox
01-27-2008, 08:28 PM
It's definitely not worth the $2,500 and I would have never paid that much. But at the price I did pay, I simply could not say no. I hope I never have to sell it, but if I do, it's pretty much assured to sell for more than what I paid.

i collect guns (mostly US longarms of the 20th century) because I appreciate the history and the mechanical genius and simplicity that goes into them. Are they weapons of war? At one time yes, and if called upon again they could be just as capable; however, my primary purpose of collecting them is not "in case of ___" If I wanted guns for self defense I'd only have maybe 3 or 4 of different types (pistol, shotgun, carbine, rifle) and that would do it. Instead I have a collection

I haven't submitted to any magazines.. do they actually accept reader submissions? All of my guns are used and nicked and such anyways, so..

Taking pictures of guns is pretty easy, in my opinion - a lot easier than photographing cars.

Simple things - you don't need a fancy camera (all the above were taken with crappy point and shoots), but a tripod definitely helps. Don't use a cell phone camera.

Get an interesting background that doesn't distract too much from the guns, but makes sense. Black guns photograph pretty well against military camo, imho. Carpet is boring. Floral bedsheets are worse. A nice rich wood tabletop works nice for more classic looking guns.

Look at gun magazines or good pictures on the internet and copy the 'poses' as best you can.

Make sure the light is good. Don't use a flash because you get annoying glare. If you have a tripod you can make the exposure length longer to get good results. Look at the way the light reflects off of the gun and turn the gun or the light. If there's a sharp reflection, you can put like a thin sheet over the light source to diffuse it some.

Finally, there's no shame in doing some photoshop to adjust the white balance levels (all of the yellow pictures, for instance, could really use it) or sharpen it up a bit.

It just takes a few minutes of thought to figure it out and get really nice pictures. Coolaid has the right idea, but if I were him, I'd pull the light further away to get a more even lighting of the scene, put something more interesting than that tabletop for a background, and rearrange the props. The focus should be on the gun, and the props sort of have to flow with it, not look randomly scattered around.

+1 on the MK23

Got one in my closet that I also "picked up" for 1k.

Its amazing what someone will sell something for when they are desperate. Only had about 20 rounds put thru it too. :)

And it is the most accurate pistol that I have ever shot. It shoots way better than my M&P 40. LOL, as if it was a comparison.

I need to take some pics of my guns. I only have three right now, two of which were my Grandfather's. The first is a Colt 1911/1911A hybrid (1911 trigger and frame, 1911A slide and barrel) that was made in August 1938. I take it to the range all the time, and it's by far my favorite gun. My other range gun is an FAI TZ-75 9mm. Not sure how old it is, just that it likes to jam if I'm firing reloads. :p

My last gun, which is strictly a display piece (far too dangerous to actually fire) is a Chuo Kogyo Nambu Type 94 8mm. If anyone has an English-language manual for one of these, I'd greatly appreciate someone kindly looking up the disassembly instructions for it - it hasn't been disassembled & cleaned for over 50 years, and the only person I know of who knew how to do it (my Grandpa) died 10 years ago... :(

Very nice collections..

What are the easiest guns to shoot pulling the trigger with middle finger, my trigger finger suffered accident about 13 years ago, can't bend it all the way, so I pull the trigger with middle finger while trig. finger i rest alongside of the gun. Only gun that I found to fit very nicely in my hand (average size hand) was Glock 20 that I once rented from at local range.

I tried couple of revolvers but it's just way too hard, nowhere to rest the trig. finger, and they are not designed to be fired with mid. finger. Any suggestions ?

My advice would be to just begin dry fire "grass drills" with the pistol that fits your hand the best so you begin to develop the dexterity and strength. 15 minutes 3 to four times a week would have you "in shape" in about a month I'd guess. This also builds the forearm strength and muscle memory that is so vital to good pistol shooting.

The ultra "easy" way out (though not cheap) solution is to look towards competitive match pistols. An International Free pistol has a trigger pull of about 75 grams and will have a four axis adjustable trigger shoe. It's also about a $1500 dollar investment for a single shot 22LR.

Not real practical for most.

Get some pictures, I'm sure someone can tell you how to do it. There's only so many ways a gun can come apart.

I have a few more on my short-list for the coming months:

Microtech AUG
S&W "Bear Kit" 500S&W (purely for fun)
Nighthawk Custom Predator II
Nighthawk Custom T3
Seecamp

Isn't that your p7m8 in your avatar?

Didn't I already tell you to hold out on the microtech AUG?

I'm waiting for the KRISS super V and/or the professional arms mk 5 (mp5 clone)

I've been a gun maker for almost ten years now. I'd like to see it just for the sake of seeing it.

That gun could quite possibly be completely safe to operate. As long as the components haven't been stressed due to excessive pressure (ammunition) loads, corrosion, or some kind of heat (fire) damage, then its likely it is still serviceable. (Assuming of course that the parts were properly heat treated and fitted during manufacturing) The fact that it hasn't been cleaned in so long is a slight concern because if it uses a metallic cartridge shell casing then there could be some corrosion damage.

Older metallic cartridges used primers that contained mercury. This mercury fulmaneric (I don't know if I spelled that right) priming compound is corrosive and would leave pits in a barrel if it was not cleaned after firing.

(Not so much a "danger" as it is an accuracy issue. In an extreme case the pitting could cause accelerated metal fouling of the bore that could then cause chamber pressures to rise. If hot loads were used, you could possibly see some smoked primers or maybe even some ejector marks on the case heads. Not really a life threatening issue, but its better to avoid it as it is hard on parts.)

Sorry, I get to talking about this stuff and I can't shut up.

Anyways, it'd still be neat to see.

No, that's a Papa Nambu (similar to a Nambu Type 14). Completely different piece. Here's a pic of a T-94:

I've been a gun maker for almost ten years now. I'd like to see it just for the sake of seeing it.

(Assuming of course that the parts were properly heat treated and fitted during manufacturing) The fact that it hasn't been cleaned in so long is a slight concern because if it uses a metallic cartridge shell casing then there could be some corrosion damage.Let me rephrase. It's completely unsafe "to handle" if loaded. If there is a round chambered, physical pressure on the external sear bar can and will cause the gun to discharge. Apparently, this design was responsible for more than a few Japanese injuries during the war. :eek2:

Older metallic cartridges used primers that contained mercury. This mercury fulmaneric (I don't know if I spelled that right) priming compound is corrosive and would leave pits in a barrel if it was not cleaned after firing.I honestly don't know when the last time was that the gun was fired, just that it hasn't been disassembled/cleaned in half a century. For all I know, it was cleaned perfectly after it's last use - but no way would I chance it.

Sorry, I get to talking about this stuff and I can't shut up.

Anyways, it'd still be neat to see.No apology necessary! I'll take some pics of my own tonight (the one above is linked to someone else's site, and they only have pictures of the gun's right side for some reason) and post 'em up. :)

Those are "iron sights" (metallic sights), same idea as the one on the wood gun. The Iris in the rear has some features. Iris size, color filters, polarizer, and a diopter which will enlarge the size of the target. The front is just a hooded globe sight with an adjustable aperture. The sights in the blue gun are actually manufactured for smallbore (22LR) rimfire competition. They just happen to work well for 300 meter also. Just don't ever use them on a flat top AR. they won't last. the "dual recoil"/back and forth of the bolt carrier assy beats them up. The one on wood gun is really the one to have if purchasing a high quality iron sight for a rifle. Warner Tool Company in New Hampshire. These are little Rolex watches. Ground threads, diamond honed bores, hand lapped thread gibbs, etc. . .

The Warner is around $600 bucks for the sight, and then another $150 for the aperture and sun shade/hood. I made the base for it cause the only one offered was in aluminum and I wanted stainless. The Anschutz sight on the blue gun runs about $300.00 with another hundred or so when you include the iris. I had to make the base for that one from scratch. The joys of making square pegs fit into round holes.

The sights are set up for a fairly specific sight radius (distance from front to rear) so that the "click" value is calibrated. The blue gun sight (called the Anschutz 7000 series) is set up according to the scoring rings on the ISSF 50 meter International smallbore target. You have two settings. One is to set the sight at 10 "clicks" per scoring ring. The other is 20 "clicks" per scoring ring. Most good shooters leave it at 10 because 20 is so fine you end up just "double doping" the gun to see a conclusive shift in bullet impact anyway.

The Warner is a half minute windage and elevation. Meaning 1/2 inch per click per 100 yards. 1 click at 200 yards means 1 inch of shift and so on . . .

Ok, schools out.

Off to bed.

i collect guns (mostly US longarms of the 20th century) because I appreciate the history and the mechanical genius and simplicity that goes into them. Instead I have a collection

they only make the new vaquero in 357 or 45LC. i had a tough time deciding on mine stainless, or color cased blued, in the end i picked the blued. i can't get down with the stag grips but they are growing on me buffalo horn looks better on stainless. here are the grips i originally wanted:

Nice pics there too Bursty! I see you have a W. Germany (now there is no W.Germany) pistol with the rolled steel slide too. Nice, nice gun!

jonfor, those grips will look beautiful on that case blued Vaquero. The weak side of most after market grips is the screw part of the grips. The ones in your link "look" strong, but if they should fail, you can easily replace them with a set from Ruger for not much money... I like the looks of the blued Vaquero's better, but stainless is just so much tougher and generally shows less wear. That's the only reason I bought stainless.
I originally made these Stag grips for a Ruger .357 Blackhawk (which I no longer have). I bought the blanks at a gun show for 25 bucks (that was before Klinton made it illegal to import Iberian Stag) and fashioned them to fit my hand. I put original Ruger grip screws and logo's in them from a pair of old Security Six grips I had laying around. Mine are very comfortable to shoot with.

Toxie, more pictures of the HK's are required or you have to be banned. I really want a USC and do the UMP conversion on it. That PS90 is also awsome, I just wish ammo for it was cheaper and I'd be all over it.

They're not pajama bottoms, they're ratty ass workout shorts, like every real man should have! (you can see the frayed edge on the left leg :p).

I do like the HK's. My 94 I never shoot though, because it spits unburnt podwer/residue back at me (I'm a lefty) so I have to find one fo the rare clamp-on deflectors they made for the 94. I'm going to do the conversion eventually, becuase it's just SOO much better. The USC is a wonderful gun to shoot though.

I have a hardon for almost every handgun. Love the design on the 1911. Ol' JB was ahead of his time.

2K6_GTO, 25K rounds and no FTFs? Holy crap. I got into 1911's recently and when I go through 500 rds w/o a FTF, I celebrate. I'm learning...but when you hear tales of that kind of reliability it makes me wish I'd started my collecting with Sig rather than Springfield.

2K6 GTO

It is pretty impressive. I changed the recoil spring at around 18K per Sig's recommendation and had Birdsong put a Black-T finish on it because I had worn the finish off, but that's all of the work I've done to it. The thing rattles like a tank, but shoots like a dream. It would shoot rounds that other guns would jam with. I reloaded for it and they where really crappy reloads (I used a Lee hand press). I could always tell my brass from others because it was so tarnished. Some of the brass was reloaded so many times I lost count after ~ 25 times and I never threw any brass away till it split... I think the thing would shoot rocks. It was my only semi auto for years so it got shot a lot... I sure can't complain about my P226, no doubt.
