Anyone have one? Opinions?
Seems like a fairly standard 45...looking for a bit more than the 9mm I shoot at inanimate objects now...comes w/three clips, 13/14 rd capacity...

it feeds from a clip? most pistols i know of feed from a magazine.
and if it's anything like most high capacity .45's, it's going to be an anchor. Even the XD45 is huge.
This one is on my list!

They make some nice weapons! Look at the Five-seveN also.

Fun gun for the Desert...
Oh yes the Five-seveN!
It is the PS90 Triple Rail! This is one wicked machine. The rounds come from the top. They have a full auto version also - with the short barrel!

if you're looking for a small .45 look into the Glock 30 or 36, or a compact 1911.
the FivesevN is a nice pistol, but if i got shot by one and found out, i'd be PISSED!

Yeah not the biggest hammer but high velocity...and I would imagine not too much kick. Should be easy to be consistent with...
From what I'm reading the ammo can be tough to find and pricey too.
Hmmm dammit tough choice because the more I think of it I'm not exactly looking for an elephant gun...

well, the ammo price argument is still pretty legit, though losing ground. .223 used to be <20 cents per round, now it's approaching 40 with no ceiling in sight. since 5.7 ammo is relatively low demand, the price has been more static.

friend had a FIVE SEVEN pistol.
TONS of fun to shoot. no recoil, 2 foot flame and a report than makes everyone look.
But at 50 cents a round it's pricey.
The problem is that is was made specifically for penetrating body armor, so unless your target is wearing it, it's just going to go right through him and he'll barely notice.
Heard a story of a swat team using it on a druggie, they ventilated him with about 20 or so rounds and he kept comming because he wasn't wearing armor.

From a quick read, seems there's about a 50/50 split over the Five-SeveN
50% - Like it (though looks like the SS192 rounds are no longer avail)
50% - Don't like it because of what you said...
This guy might have sold me -
The Five-seveN is one of the best shooting handguns I have ever shot. This is coming from a huge fan and believer in the .45 ACP. I have shot everything from the 500 S&W and on down and the Five-seveN shoots so damn flat that you can routinely stay on target at 100yrds. Very little recoil allows faster follow on shots. Little bastard lobs that brass over into the next county though. I do not like the Mag Release on the IOM model that I have. If the "government" model was available when I got mine back in October I would have bought that one. But I still love the gun and the ammo. Do some research on the net and look at the ballistic testing, pretty impressive. Secret Service adopted the weapon and so have many other "elite" organizations, that has to say something about the gun and round. It is light even with 20rnds... it is now my CCW, hard to find a great holster for it though because of the weird trigger guard on the IOM. Give it a try, you will be impressed.
I am pissed that they sucumbed to the liberal media and discontinued the SS-192 rounds and are now giving us a wussy round (SS-196), looks like I am getting back into reloading ;o)
Sorry you Aussies cannot shoot it! Damn liberal governments. I have read some statistics that say that in the first year of the ban, the state of Victoria had Gun crime go up 400%. Sorry guys...
Watch out, boomerangs are next.
:gr_jest:
So you don't think I'll have issues finding 5.7 X 28mm rounds (SS-196s)?

True...and now the original ammo is no longer avail...but I'm not planning on raiding any crack houses anytime soon. Suppose this whole quest started as 'another fun gun', preferably larger than 9mm...but the more I read about the Five-SeveN the more I like. This really wouldn't be a defense weapon for me...

50 cents is cheap. My buddys 500 cal is what I call expensive.
I have my eye on a PT100 in polished stainless. I love the look of those guns and they are quite reasonable. A little on the heavier side but hold nice for me. Plus I like the 40 cal.

The 5.7 rounds are available at the Local Bass Pro. Even on sale from time to time.
I always new the 5.7 was the bestest.:ftw::gears:
I have heard more stories than I can count about guns not taking down "Druggies". I remember when DC first went to the 9mm they had a dude on crack that the LEO supposedly unloaded his 9mm into and the guy kept coming.
Do you no why the military went to 1911s?
He just wants a fun gun to shoot. He mentioned a FN. I like the PS90 and the Five-seveN.
If you want human stopping get a shotgun! Or more range time because if you cannot stop a guy with 15 to 20 rounds you have a problem!

Ok that fine, but he's asking about a 400 dollar pistol that shoots <25 cent round bullets
He didn't ask about a 800+ dollar pistol and a 1300+ dollar rifle that shoots 50 cent bullets.

that's fine man, you do what you gotta do. they are definitely fun to shoot but my friend wound up selling his after a few months because he didn't like having to spend 100 bucks just to put 200rds down range.

Actually $1150 for EVERYTHING
Included all registration/processing fees (~$100), taxes (8.25%), 200 rds (~$100)...
I brought a friend who spent about $900 so he cut us a deal...unfortunately my friend has to wait 3 days for his :sneaky:

Don't know the specifics but even w/20 rounds in the mag the Five-SeveN is MUCH lighter even though it's larger...
Thanks again fellas.

werd...played it safe this time and just went out North of Apex (usually cheat and just go to the N edge of the valley, north of the 215).
Yeah, 40 miles later, about 20 min down the trail I realize I left my ear protection at home.
Needless to say my ears are RINGIN. Surprisingly louder than the 9mm...
Let me know next time you get out! Sats are best for me now that NASCAR season is set to kick off...
