NHRA reporter Rob Geiger reports debut at Denver...
I had a nice chat with chassis builder Jerry Bickel this past weekend. Jerry tells me his shop is full of Cobalts and GTO chassis and that his team is working overtime to get them to all of its customers in time. The first four Cobalts will hit the track in Bristol, and the GTOs will probably debut in Denver.
According to Jeff Romack, the talented GM press agent, team drivers Kurt Johnson, Ron Krisher, Dave Connolly, and Erica Enders will debut Cobalts in Tennessee, with more being added as they roll off the assembly line.
In response to the sleeker Cobalts and GTOs, NHRA has allowed the Dodge drivers to trim their bodywork a bit. The cars are narrower and lower and, according to several Mopar drivers I spoke with at the top end, a handful to drive. I'm sure they'll get it figured out soon enough.
