I said I'd never do it.

I said "Why? I already own Glocks..."

I have had this odd fascination with the Springfield XD lately, and that combined with needing a super-compact for pocket carry... well, I guess the stars aligned.

Nice little piece I have to admit. I haven't shot it yet, which is atypical for me because I ALWAYS shoot it as soon as I buy it, but I was in a rush today. Hopefully I'll get it to the range soon.

Anyway, here are some pics of my new XD9 SC S/S

Nice, how much did one of those run you? I'm looking into getting one for the glove box, want something small that will be able to fit in there.

Excuse the questions, I'm a complete gun noob, but after a couple of recent events I'm aiming more towards getting one.

It ran me about $540 before tax. You're probably able to get one cheaper, my local shop is a bit high priced on most everything.

It is very small, almost identical in size to the 'Baby Glock" G26 and G27's.

You get one teeny 10 round mag for deep concealment, and one 16 round oversized mag with adaptor which makes for a perfect fit when range shooting. Makes it a tad longer in the grip than a Glock 19 actually.

Just make sure you get some solid info on the laws in your state about carrying it in your car if you do not have a carry permit. Many states vary quite a bit as to where the gun can be placed, if it can be loaded, or how it must be encased.

be prepared to start selling your glocks hahaha.

Have fun and enjoy. It's the best selling civilian pistol for a reason.

Looks like a nice piece. I've often thought about buying a target pistol (like for competitive shooting), but I wouldn't even know where to begin.

The XD is a strict combat pistol.

If you want a competition pistol most of the pros use a heavily modified 1911 that's been chambered for 38 super

I never would have guessed. I would have thought that .22 cal would have been the choice for most.

I learned something today.

Well that's half true. there's different competitions. For so called major calibers the vast majority of pro shooters use a .38 super 1911

There's a whole other set of people that use .22s as pros

The Croats came up with a winner in the XD. Bought one for my wife last month. It's funny that noone (myself included) bought these things when there were imported as the HS2000. Good combat style handgun.

Looks like a nice piece. I've often thought about buying a target pistol (like for competitive shooting), but I wouldn't even know where to begin.

It depends on what type of competitive shooting you want to do. Do you just want to test your skills against others in standard target type shooting, or do you want to do "practical" shooting which includes running, advancing multiple targets, and re-enacting somewhat likely real-life scenarios?

Steel Plate competitions are fun, and is more of a static sport. This is an equal opportunity sport in the respects of athletic ability (you could be in or out of shape), and the type of gun you own (you can use revolver or semi auto).

I shot IPSC (practical shooting) for a number of years and I found it to be the most fun I could have with a gun. It's not easy, it is not cheap, and it can be tricky to learn the scoring system initially. You must carefully select the caliber you're going to shoot because that will directly relate to your ending scores.

Most shoot .38 Super, and a lot shoot .40 cal. Still many do shoot .45ACP and on the odd occasion you'll see 9mm.

IDPA is kind of a good balance between racing and real world practicality. Many people left IPSC because it turned into a race against equipment rather than a race against another shooter. It is not easy to go out and shoot IPSC with a $500 Glock and beat the guy next to you using a $5000 race-built STI. Even in the "Limited" class there are still a lot of ways to seriously modify your gun for the competition.

IDPA has strict rules, and generally speaking the gun used must be a gun that can be carried. Carry type holsters instead of race holsters, and so on. Every caliber can be seen out there.

Check with your local range because they usually know about local IDPA and IPSC matches.

Sig does make a nice gun, and I've owned a few. But there are a few things about them that make them less desirable to me nowadays. The high position of the bore and the horrible triggers keep me away.

Had a XD 40 and didn't like it. The slide was real loose and it rattled and sounded cheap. The ability to just chamber squeeze and fire was nice I guess, but I really prefer the safety. I will probably go back to a double action. Atleast then i can be chambered, and /or at half-**** with the safety on if I feel I may be close to a threatening situation. Non-cocked , safety on and holstered to me is a safe way to carry and still be prepared. the XD made me feel to nervous to holster when chambered due to the safety being the double squeeze LOL!

You need to find a buddy that has one with the short reset trigger installed and fix that statement

Bandit

It's not the reset that bothers me, it's the sloppiness and long DA draw that bothers me.

I have had a couple of my older Sigs worked on to smooth out the trigger, but it still wasn't the best for me.

Like I said, they are terrific, but there are better out there for the money for me.

Well the thing about the short reset trigger is the short reset is really just a fringe benefit. Similar to a glock, when you pull the trigger the first time it's nothing but mush but it gets a ton crisper when on the follow up shots as long as you don't let the trigger out all the way.

Same thing with the sig, after the initial pull, let it out a 1/16th of an inch and it resets and the trigger now feels like a 1911. Hand to God

I've been shooting my buddy's new P226 Elite lately and omg that thing is absolute sechs. I love everything about it except the size. It's a bit big for me. I love the size of the P225 and P239.
