Yep. No problems.
Even for a DD car??

Won't get many miles out of them, and they suck in the rain, but otherwise you'll be fine.

I know DRs aren't the best in the rain but I thought the nittos were the best for the street and the best for a dd?

I ran my nittos almost all summer.
They were fine in the rain (though this might not apply for ETs or another DR), got ok wear out of them, sick for hooking on the street, HORRIBLE for trying to enjoy a twisty road (but that should be obvious)
edit: with 471 almost any DR is going to be useless for you on the street. My nittos SUCKED with my 430whp goat.

Yeah but my fuzion zrs are crying everytime I even think about using more than 1/2 throttle. And I should be over 500rwhp in about a month too :gears:

yes it will be ok I ran the nitto on my car from march to august. Had alot of fun with them. No you wont be dead hooking with them but it will be 100 times better then a reg. street tire. I could pedal it in 2nd(285 nitto's) and it would catch traction. With 285 regular nitto's I pedal 3rd. Back on topic there is no problem running a drag radial on the rear and a reg. street tire on the front. The thing that can cause some ill handling manners on the street is a bais ply constructed drag tire on the rear and a radial tire. the diferent construction methods(bias, radial) causes the tires to react diferently to irregularities in the road surface.

dumbest question evar!!! but, how many miles were you able to get on your nitto's before they were toast, since you were DD...
been considering this for awhile, living in phoenix, rain isnt exactly my biggest problem... and when it rains, its a flood anyhow, so i think you could hydroplane with just about any tire then...
just curious, i know its kinda a dumb question with DR's

Not a dumb question but from what I have read people are getting 10,000 - up to 14,000 miles. I am assuming they aren't going to the track every other weekend though.

Course you can. I run 285 555R DR's on the rear and reg. 555's on the front. No problems and it's my DD. And I have close to 12,000 miles on them :)

My Nittos showed cords in about 4500 hard miles, 50+ passes, 5 auto-x events and a couple laps at the glen. They hook good on the street, but with out a lot of heat in them their not much better than street tires at the track.

How do the 285s fit? I hear nittos run small. Right now I have a 275 fuzion with the fenders rolled, wonder if the 285 nitto will fit??

there not bad at all. i consider them better than the stock bfg's. once you start pushing past the 60 mph mark in the rain you do have to be carefull. i had 10000 miles on my last pair and they prob had another 5000 miles but i ruined the sidewall on one.

If you want the the best tire for hooking up, get BFG DR. They don't handle as good as the rest though. Trust me I've had them all. If it's a DD, then just drive like a grandma in the rain. It's not that bad, as long as you don't get stupid. My next set will be BFG's again..
Drew
I've gotten 15K miles out of a set on my WS6. 13K miles on a set on my TTA but a nail ruined those and they still had tread left. There is 10K miles on the goat wheels when I took them off the car, a little less than 1/2 tread.
The WS6 was my everyday driver and drove that through everything, including snow one time. Don't ever get caught in the snow with drag radials! Rain was no problem at all with them. The key to the street is to keep them inflated right. I run 28psi on the street for all of them. Even wear all the way across. Then air down at the track. Probably had close to 50 passes on them for the WS6, 100 passes on the TTA, and about 50 passes on the goat with more to come. I don't do a big burnout for them to work, just 3-5 seconds. Enough to see smoke in the mirrors. Maybe that's why they last with some passes.
WS6 and goat are M6, TTA was a A4. Good enough for a 1.61 in the TTA, so they work.

How did they perform at the auto-X events compared to a non-drag radial tire?

They didn't roll over themselves when pushed hard. They also didn't allow enough rotation to navigate tight courses. Great for exiting corners though, no wheel spin.
I knew several F-Body guys that ran 4 drag radials for auto-x and didn't have a problem. One of those guys used to run 315 Nitto DR's on all 4 corners when he was on the road course. Didn't have a problem either. He only did that because nobody made tires at the time but in a pinch, he'd do it again.

Ask Padre!
Ask Padre! He had M/T drag radials. I wouldn't drive those or BFG's in the rain.
