We all know the deal. This was done on a closed course and never try this at home boys and girls.

We have had the 140 club. Now it's time to take it to the next level - safely, of course.

A few of us fast car owners were heading down to the GA-FL goat shootout and we just happen to have our own personal shootout. I saw the far (FAR)side of 150 and it did not take long to get there from my starting point of 85 mph. Dropped to 4th and rolled into the throttle. Went up and then came right back down to normal speed. Our 05 in the group hit his 156 speed limiter. To bad - I don't have one of those anymore :secret: Two of our buddies had issues hanging but they eventually caught back up!

Hit 160mph on the digital speedo in my car bone stock. As for hitting it again, probably never will. Looking back, the only thing I could really see is what was directly in front of me. I will say one thing, other than the blur going by, you couldn't tell 60 from 160. Smooth as silk.

I hit 164 in my 00 Z28 before I had to slowdown for traffic - we used Autotap to verify the speed.. Having 2.73s helped a lot to get up to that speed.. :D It was pretty scary how quick traffic came up though.

I hit 147 in my 94 Z28..which it seemed was getting close to limit being it had 3.23's and was a 4speed (maye could have hit 155). Was the Ride smooth as silk?...NOT EVEN CLOSE.

I found a few street bikes behind me last night and let off around 155-160, one of the guys gave me the thumbs up ,I guess he was happy with the GTO hanging at 150mph plus . The car was stable but I let off for traffic.But i really didnt know i was going that fast until i looked down!!!!!!!

161mph here.... had the limiter removed the same time I got the SW Headers put on. Managed to hit 161 on a quite strip of highway around 3am in the morning... was fun, but I don't recommend it unless you have some good tires that you trust your life with. :burnout:

154 on I-69 in Indiana heading home. It was great, but had to slow down due to running out of straight road. Did not want to go through a turn at those speeds. Can you say crash boom. It definately got there in a hurry. So I had to try it again a week ago. I hit 151 on I-94 in Michigan, Near Mount Clemens. That is so much fun....No, I take that back, it is toooo much fun

there's a guy on the site with lt headers and a chip or tune, he hit 181mph, highest i have heard of, he is from Michigan i think.

Good to see someone finally started this thread. I hit 157 (verified by digital) in my bone stock '05 a week ago on my way to a restaurant with 3 friends in the car. Like everyone said, smooth as silk...but it took a while as I was driving headlong into a fierce wind. That was probably the biggest rush I've ever gotten from driving.....this car is going to be the death of me.

No, I did not disable it, i was racing a wrx in Ohio on my way to Pennsylvania, my girlfriend was next to me, with 250lbs of clothes and groceries, so if we crashed it would have been great for the poor but horrrible for us.but it looked like 160, at that speed i wasnt thinking put on the digital speedo you know? but i did bounce off it twice just to make sure :burnout:

Not sure if this is GTO only specific but here is a pic of the S4 at speed and this one is an automatic. I have two other photos one showing 160 and the other showing a GPS readout of that run indicating 158 so the speedometer isn't all that optomistic, in this S4 anyway. There are rumors of S4 MT6's hitting the redline limiter at 180.

Again there is a guy on this site who has hit 181 in his GTO, he has headers and a cpu tune but it is there, and when i hit 160 it had alot left so yes it will easily do 170 i have been told that the theory of rpm's to mph our cours can go 194 mph, would i try it, hell yes, just gimme an open space where i can try, i think Arizona holds a race in the middle of nowhere and you run against the clock on a 25 mile course,anyone familiar with this race???

Just back from the Big Bend Open Road Race - 120 miles of flat out driving on a closed Texas highway. The 04 GTO, 100% stock, ran 155 before hitting the rev limiter. You guys should try this - look at www.openroadracing.com. Next event in Wendover, NV on May 7-8.

I guess after reading all these I should do a little stupidity bragging also. A couple of weeks ago I was heading home on the interstate and had a new Audi A4T speed up as I passed him at 90. We came up in-behind a truck doing about 70 and when it got over to the right I was in front of the A4 and downed to 3rd and took off. Suprising the A4 stayed with me to about 100 and then I noticed my goat pulling on him. At 130 I looked in the mirror and was about 6-8 car lengths ahead and he backed off. Going over a bridge at that speed I held my breath but she drove over it like it was all smooth. I decided to go ahead and stay in it since I was already going that fast and ended up backing out at 162 with the pedal almost to the floor in 5th. I didn't notice any rev limiter and I don't think she would of minded a little more gas.

I guess I can refer back to this again. I guess I can also mention that when I got off the interstate there were flurries in the air. :bubbrub

I ran my '05 M6 to 159 in 5th gear before it hit the limiter. Got to 145 pretty quick, worked a little bit to get it to 159 though. I kept it in 5th because when i put it into 6th it stoped pulling and started crawling. I am bone stock for now :thumbs:

The car felt pretty stable at 159.
I think the car has a lot more potential than th 159 that I ran it too. I think once the edit comes out for it, people could prob. run 170ish or so. I still think the '05 M6 has some kind of abuse mode. I can feel the car hesitate at times when I mash the pedal to the floor.

171 mph at roughly 5300rpm in 6th. It stayed at 167-8 forever but it took a short downhill section to hit 171. The car was really stable but it felt a little floaty when I hit a couple of small bumps.

Yeah, that is what I thought, you would definantly need a downhill section to hit 170 in an 04 with no more than LT's and the other basic bolts.

If I had hit a downhill secton this weekend I would b in your 170 club.

low 150s a couple times here. Was very stable the first time. The 2nd time there was a fairly stiff crosswind, definitely could feel it at that speed. Having had a modified Grand Prix GTP (engine and complete suspension rework) that I drove into the 140s a few times, the GTO gets there way faster and feels way more stable...

Yep, calculating off of HP and aerodynamics, upper 160's should be about the peak number in a mostly stock '04, 170 with a tune and not much else. I've only made it to 163, ran out of road, but it was still pulling at that point. I'm hoping to make Big Bend in the fall, with any luck, see what we see down there.

Well, I had a post about this awhile ago, along with racing a 911.
I have an A4 2004, and it tops out at 163 on level ground. I have an LPE intake, SW catback and Predator tune. No doubt the manuals will do better, but I would not count on anything else from the A4 unless you have nitrous or Forced induction, or a cam.

Well guys, I did it! I was on my way to Tucson this weekend, and had miles of desert highway to speed on. I was on a full tank of gas, and three suit cases full of shit. But I still managed to get to 152 mph in no time. My girlfriend was screeming the whole way though, so I didnt get to hear any wind noise. LOL! All I can say is that it had a lot more in it!!

I finally got the chance to give the goat a good workout. I hit 152 before running up on traffic on I-84 in Idaho. This was with my wife, a cooler full of Ice/Food a full tank of gas and two suitcases. Loads of fun, but the wife was praying, literally! :driving:

Been to 155 in my VR-4 --it was smooth and stable, just lots of wind noise and I only had 315awhp at the time. Currently, the VR-4 has another 100awhp easy on the current turbos and it should be able to see 180 no problem. The GTO has been up to 135mph so far and it was a bit tough to stay in the lane going around a gradual sweeper, but it was quiet and felt pretty good like it had plenty more to go. Its totally different doing high speeds with AWD versus RWD. The AWD takes away the drama when the roads starts to turn, but the cabin is not as tight as the GTO, so the inrush of air through the sunroof and windows (which happens suddenly at 140mph) makes for an interesting experience. The VR-4 pulls a hell of alot harder to redline though---you have to be careful not to hit the rev limiter in fourth at 150.

I almost hit 180 on a very LONG straight stretch of road. Does my car not have a limiter? I also hit 168 in my stock 04 A4, and i thought those were supposed to shut down before that. 168 is where i hit my limiter.

165 mph @ somewhere in texas.. I bought the car @ ebay.com, car was at texas.. I had to drive it back to seattle.. ( 32 hours drive ) I got bored and drove around 160 mph for a while then I realized I was not in Turkey anymore( we got speed limits too but no one really cares :) ) so I paniced and slowed down. That was my first bad experience with the goat cause the brake sucked : )
